The Internet and the World Wide Web have enabled a publishing explosion of useful online information, which has produced the unfortunate side effect of information overload: it is increasingly difficult for individuals to keep abreast of fresh information. In this paper we describe an approach for building a system for efficiently monitoring changes toWeb documents. This paper has three main contributions. First, we present a coherent framework that captures different characteristics of Web documents. The system uses the Page Digest encoding to provide a comprehensive monitoring system for content, structure, and other interesting properties of Web documents. Second, the Page Digest encoding enables improved performance for individual page monitors through mechanisms such as short-circuit evaluation, linear time algorithms for document and structure similarity, and data size reduction. Finally, we develop a collection of sentinel grouping techniques based on the Page Digest encoding to reduce redundant processing in large-scale monitoring systems by grouping similar monitoring requests together. We examine how effective these techniques are over a wide range of parameters and have seen an order of magnitude speed up over existing Web-based information monitoring systems.

This paper presents a method for providing an everyday language smart help using an application software manual. This system takes three phases in the process: understanding of a user's input, matching the result of understanding with manual texts of application software, and paraphrasing the matched texts to output for the user. We focus on the output phase, in which a manual text matched in the matching phase is paraphrased using the analysis result in the understanding phase. Four paraphrasing methods for a novice user are identified by a subject experiment, and rules for these methods are applied in respect to the linguistic features extracted in the understanding phase. An example scenario is shown, and the applied rules and their effects are discussed.

In this paper, we explore the system-level power-performance trade-offs available when implementing streaming embedded applications on fine-grained reconfigurable architectures. We show that an efficient hardware-software partitioning algorithm is required when targeting low-power. However, if the application objective is performance, then we propose the use of dynamically reconfigurable architectures. This work presents a configuration-aware data size partitioning approach. We propose a design methodology that adapts the architecture and used algorithms to the application requirements. The methodology has been proven to work on a real research platform based on Xilinx devices. Finally, we have applied our methodology and algorithms to the case study of image sharpening, which is required nowadays in digital cameras and mobile phones.

In this paper, we propose an automatic method to segment the Sylvian fissure (SF) from T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The method consists of four steps. First, morphological methods are applied to remove non-brain tissues. Then, 2D region growing is used to segment the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and gray matter (GM) in the SF, in which spatial relationships are used to control the region growing. A modified Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is introduced as well, which is more accurate than the conventional FCM method. After that, we get the 3D volume of the SF through segmenting CSF and GM slice by slice. Finally, CSF in the SF is extracted incorporating the anatomical information on a constant cortex thickness. We have demonstrated our method through both phantom and patient data.

Recently, people pay more attention to the grid technology. It can not only connect all kinds of resources in the network, but also put them into a super transparent computing environment for customers to realize mete-computing which can share computing resources. Traditional parallel computing system, such as SMP(Symmetrical multiprocessor) and MPP(massively parallel processor), use multi-processors to raise computing speed in a close coupling way, so the flexible and scalable performance of the system are limited, as a result of it, the system can't meet the requirement of the grid technology. In this paper, the architecture of cluster computing system applied in grid nodes is introduced. It mainly includes the following aspects. First, the network architecture of cluster computing system in grid nodes is analyzed and designed. Second, how to realize distributing computing (including coordinating computing and sharing computing) of cluster computing system in grid nodes to construct virtual node computers is discussed. Last, communication among grid nodes is analyzed. In other words, it discusses how to realize single reflection to let all the service requirements from customers be met through sending to the grid nodes.
