Recent developments in mobile router technology include the ability to prioritize selection of the home agent by the mobile unit. This technology was originally developed for route optimization. However, the technology also can be applied to autonomous catastrophic recovery, and robust redundant network control centers. This paper describes a variety of architecture scenarios that can benefit from prioritized home agents including: homeland security, virtual mission operations, mobile command centers and route optimization for aeronautical applications. A demonstration testbed will be presented where this technology was proven in the field. In addition, a virtual mission operation center demonstration currently being deployed will be described.

This work presents the idea and a prototype of workflow systems whose definition is based on constraints. The flexibility is reached through the less rigid definition of workflow definitions - the workflow is defined as a set of pre and post conditions of activities, which are selected dynamically as the process instance unfolds. The workflow system besides dispatching activities that have all their preconditions fulfilled to be executed, also helps users to decide which activity to chose through what if scenarios. The system also includes an access control model which not only represents which users have the authority to chose and execute the activities but also the authority to override the constraints. In particular, overriding constraints is itself an activity and thus may have pre and post conditions defined in other constraints. The paper present Tucupi, a prototype of such constraint based WFMS.

We applied data-driven methods to carry out automatic acquisition of Dutch prepositional support verb constructions (SVCs) in corpora (e.g., iets in de gaten houden (" keep an eye on something" )). This paper addresses the question whether linguistic diagnostics help to discard noise from thenbest lists and how to (semi-)automatically apply such linguistic diagnostics to parsed corpora. We show that some of the linguistic diagnostics proposed in Hollebrandse (1993) effectively identify SVCs and contribute a modest error rate decrease.

The fast evolution of transport is due to the impossibility of continuing to build new infrastructures to face constant increase in demand. Thus a new paradigm is emerging for the development of transport: Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). To make transport systems more, safer, efficient, reliable and adaptive, a broad range of diverse technologies are applied. In the ITS domain, work was articulated around two principal topics: models of dynamic assignment and simulation of the traffic, and ITS applications in carriage of goods ("Commercial Vehicle Operations"). In this work we are particularly interested in the last case. To contribute to this, our aim behind this paper is the following: modelling the Management systems of maritime transport (MSMT) by a multi-agents framework, management of the invitations to tender and the negotiation among agents based on the Contract-Net Protocol, solving boats routing problem using simultaneously Genetic algorithms, λ-interchange method, Tabu Search meta-heuristic and the Case-Based Reasoning.

Grids are a distributed computing technology whose objective is to provide the basic mechanisms for forming and operating dynamic distributed collaborations, or virtual organizations as they are sometimes called. While grid infrastructure has focused on such things as the means for discovering and monitoring dynamic services, managing faults and failures, creating and managing service level agreements, creating and enforcing dynamic policy, to name a few - to date, only limited progress has been made on creating the higher level reactive behaviors that would enable truly dynamic formation of virtual organizations. What is needed are the basic algorithms that enable independently operating entities to interact with one another with partial knowledge and have emerge a robust desirable behavior. This is exactly the range of problems that are being addressed by intelligent agent technologies. Hence, it seems likely that agent technology plays an important role in the development of the grid as a pervasive infrastructure and the grid offers an exciting range of applications for agents. In This work the author explores the relationship of intelligent agents to the grid and in particular focus on how agent technology can be applied to some specific challenges faced by grid infrastructure and applications.

Time series classification is concerned about discovering classification models in a database of pre-classified time series and using them to classify unseen time series. To better handle the noises and fuzziness in time series data, we propose a new data mining technique to mine fuzzy rules in the data. The fuzzy rules discovered employ fuzzy sets to represent the revealed regularities and exceptions. The resilience of fuzzy sets to noises allows the proposed approach to better handle the noises embedded in the data. Furthermore, it uses the adjusted residual as an objective measure to evaluate the interestingness of association relationships hidden in the data. The adjusted residual analysis allows the differentiation of interesting relationships from uninteresting ones without any user-specified thresholds. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, we applied it to several well-known time series datasets. The experimental results showed that our approach is very promising.
