The Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office (AFSEO), Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), FL, is the United States Air Force (USAF) authority for weapons certification efforts. AFSEO performs test and evaluation for aircraft/store compatibility certification and uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to support this process. Determining the flow about an aircraft/store combination can be extremely difficult. Complicated geometry such as pylons, launchers, and internal weapons bays can create severe acoustic and aerothermodynamic environments, which are challenging to numerically simulate. The additional challenge of rapidly and accurately simulating the trajectory of a store separation in a high-volume simulation environment is beyond the capabilities of most CFD programs. The USAF requirement for numerous, simultaneous and quick-reaction solutions for a wide variety of stores and aircraft can only be accomplished through application of parallel high-performance computing resources that meet the significant computational and memory demands of the various cases. This project increases combat capability for the current USAF fleet of tactical and strategic aircraft with associated weapon systems. Before operational use, all aircraft/ store configurations must be certified for safe loading, carriage and jettison/release. AFSEO provides flight certification recommendations, which are based on combinations of engineering analysis, ground, and flight testing. Engineering analyses come from disciplines in carriage loads, store separations, flutter, ballistics, stability and control, and electromagnetic compatibility and interference. The AFSEO CFD team provides time-critical support for engineering analyses-in the form of computed aircraft/store carriage aerodynamic loads, predicted store separation characteristics, and visualized flow field physics-used to optimize the application of ground and flight testing, reducing risk and lowering cost of fielding new weapons. An efficient adaptive list decoder for Reed-Solomon (RS) codes by adaptively adjusting the list size is presented. Simulations show that it performs better than the Koetter-Vardy decoder (KVD) for small list sizes, with only a marginal increase in complexity. For larger list sizes, we propose an iterative decoder which, when applied to a parallel concatenated RS code, performs significantly better than the KVD, applied to an RS code of the same rate.

To satisfy the stringent QoS requirements of distributed real-time embedded (DRE) systems, middleware services customized to the specific needs of the application may be needed. This problem is often attacked by reimplementing all or large portions of an existing middleware service, which can be a time-consuming and an error prone task. In this paper, we propose a model-driven approach for middleware customization. To enable this approach, we propose event communication framework (ECF), a customizable middleware framework which provides a number of different options for implementing various features of event communication. To determine when to exercise each option, we have performed experiments to identify the application contexts in which each ECF mechanism performs better than the others. Heuristics from these experiments have been incorporated into algorithms which analyze high-level specifications of application scenarios to identify where ECF customizations can be applied. We provide configuration tools that generate customized push paths for event notifications using a combination of code synthesis, weaving and transformation techniques. We have applied our approach to the application scenarios in the Boeing BoldStroke system.

The requirements shall be fulfilled by a multithreaded processor core within a reconfigurable SoC. A helper thread running with low priority in an own thread slot concurrent to the application implements an autonomic manager that monitors the application. A middleware decides if self-optimization, self-configuration, self-protection, or self-healing techniques must be triggered based on the autonomic manager's information and further application knowledge.

With the growing access to heterogeneous and independent product data repositories, the treatment of differences in the structure and semantics of the data plays a major role in product knowledge systems. Recent research has used ontology as the knowledge base that describes concepts. For the great variation both in the level of detail and logic of different ontology representations, an integration process is needed. Comparing conception is a basic operation in the process. This paper has introduced three individual mapping methods on conception compare - Affix, Edit Distance and Synonym (WordNet). To evaluate their actual effects, a product ontology mapping task has applied these methods. Comparative study on the experiment results shows that each method has some disadvantages and can not complete the mapping task Independently. To achieve better effect, it is necessary to improve the performance of the individual methods and combine their mapping results.

Face representation based on Gabor features has attracted much attention and achieved great success in face recognition area for the advantages of the Gabor features. However, Gabor features currently adopted by most systems are redundant and too high dimensional. In this paper, we propose a face recognition method using AdaBoosted Gabor features, which are not only low dimensional but also discriminant. The main contribution of the paper lies in two points: (1) AdaBoost is successfully applied to face recognition by introducing the intra-face and extra-face difference space in the Gabor feature space;(2) An appropriate re-sampling scheme is adopted to deal with the imbalance between the amount of the positive samples and that of the negative samples. By using the proposed method, only hundreds of Gabor features are selected. Experiments on FERET database have shown that these hundreds of Gabor features are enough to achieve good performance comparable to that of methods using the complete set of Gabor features.
