Implementation of distributed dynamic weaving is a crosscutting concern since the implementation is divided into several sub-concerns and some of them are crosscutting concerns. For example, it often includes a monitoring concern, which monitors the progress of the target program running on remote hosts. It must be dynamically woven in the target program in a crosscutting way. Existing dynamic distributed languages do not provide sufficient support for modularly implementing such distributed dynamic weaving. This paper proposes our new language named DandyJ, which enables developers to implement distributed dynamic weaving by an aspect. The aspect implementing it is reusable and hence DandyJ allows developers to write an aspect library for weaving a given aspect in distributed environments. We designed DandyJ by integrating a few good ideas borrowed from existing work, such as first-class aspects, remote pointcuts, and atomic weaving. The contribution of this paper is to show a set of language constructs necessary for writing an aspect library for distributed dynamic weaving, which is also a crosscutting concern. © 2011 acm.

Audio usage is one of the more widely-applicable methods of information presentation in wearable computing environments since it can be used hands-free, requires only small devices like earphones, and does not interfere with most tasks compared with other methods including visual displays. However, since presented sound is often drowned out by ambient noise or conversational voice, a user is forced to turn the volume up to catch the audio information. Therefore, we propose an audio information presentation method that takes into account the user contexts. In our proposed method, a system estimates the user contexts based on the data from wearable sensors and a microphone, and then controls and presents the audio information so that it can be surely audible by changing the volume and the timing for presentation. The evaluation results confirmed the effectiveness of our proposed method. © 2011 acm.

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for Software Services aim to clearly identify the service level commitments established between service requesters and providers. The commitments that are agreed however can be expressed in complex notations through a combination of expressions that need to evaluated and monitored efficiently. The dynamic allocation of the responsibility for monitoring SLAs (and often different parts within them) to different monitoring components is necessary as both SLAs and the components available for monitoring them may change dynamically during the operation of a service based system. In this paper we discuss an approach to supporting this dynamic configuration, and in particular, how SLAs expressed in higher-level notations can be efficiently decomposed and appropriate monitoring components dynamically allocated for each part of the agreements. The approach is illustrated with mechanical support in the form of a configuration service which can be incorporated into SLA-based service monitoring infrastructures. © 2011 acm.

In this paper, we study the aspect-based extractive summarization based on the observations that a good summary should present representative opinions on user concerned sub-aspects within limited words. According to these observations, we argue that, two requirements, i.e. representativeness and diversity, should be considered for generating a good summary in addition to the traditional requirements of aspect-relevance and sentiment intensity. We focus on the intrinsic relationship between sentences and the dependency between extracted sentences for summarization, and thus propose a novel aspect-based summarization method for online reviews, which employs an Aspect-sensitive Markov Random Walk Model to meet the representativeness requirement, as well as a greedy redundancy removal method to meet the diversity requirement. The conducted experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing it with the baselines which ignores representativeness and/or diversity. The experimental results also show that, the two requirements we present are both indispensable for a good summary. © 2011 acm.

In this paper, we present our experience and lessons learnt in applying a multi-level reflective approach to the design and implementation of an industrial embedded dependable system. We reflect in particular on the process by which ideal academic results and assumptions may be mapped to a concrete industrial context. More precisely, our reflection is based on our experience in building an adaptive defense software for a multilayer embedded platform in the automotive industry. This defense software provides a safety bag and is based on computational reflection, an advanced architectural mechanism to separate cross-cutting concerns. Our implementation uses the AUTOSAR middleware, the automotive standard for modular embedded software, and relies on software sensors to observe the behavior of the system, executable assertions to check on-line properties, and software actuators to perform recovery actions. This leads to defense software that is uncoupled from the real functional system and can be adjusted and specialized according to the needs of the system integrator. © 2011 acm.

The mounting time of file system increases in embedded systems, as the capacity of flash memory keeps increasing rapidly. There is an unexpected power failure or an abnormal shutdown due to the power of mobile devices is supplied by batteries. Previous recovery schemes of the flash file system have limitation to reduce the mounting time in large flash memory and this resources constraint environment. Our goal is to reduce the reconstruction delay in flash file system. We present a state transition rate diagram of checkpoint to obtain the checkpoint interval and compute the interval of a checkpoint from the analysis of the diagram to reduce the scan time. © 2011 Authors.

Numerous operating systems have been designed to manage and control system resources with large and complicated features, so they need high security protection. However, previous security applications can not provide adequate protection due to the untrusted execution environment. Furthermore, these security strategies cannot support a universal cross-platform system security requirements. This paper presents VASP, a hypervisor based monitor which allows a trusted execution environment to monitor various malicious behaviors in the operating system. This is achieved by taking advantage of ×86 hardware virtualization and self-transparency technology, and providing a unified security protection to unmodified operating systems such as Linux and Windows. Our design is targeted at establishing a security monitor which resides completely outside of the target OS environment with a negligible overhead. According to the security analysis and performance experiment result, our approach can effectively protect applications and the kernel at a modest overhead of only 0.9% average in Windows XP and 2.6% average in Linux. © 2011 acm.

Traffic classification through DPI technology is considered spending most CPU time in pattern matching, leading to the conclusion that it is not suitable for classifying traffic online on high speed networks. In this paper we focus on how to improve matching performance. We believe that performance can be improved by exploiting some characteristics of network traffic: magic first symbol and zipf-like distribution of application traffic. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to observe and utilize them in traffic classification. In this paper, we analysis the expected matching times per flow before it is classified. Then, we introduce an enhanced traffic classification engine with the help of above characteristics and some optimizations, which has the same matching accuracy with the original L7-filter engine. We evaluate the enhanced engine, the result shows that it can improve matching performance with one order of magnitude, at the cost of a negligible increase in memory consumption. Furthermore, it does not depend on network environments and not require any training phase. © 2011 acm.

In this paper we introduce a parallel approach to calculate massive matrix inversion. It needs large size of memory to compute with large size of matrices. Because of the memory requirements, we consider an algorithm to optimize memory distribution in cloud computing system. In matrix inversion using Gauss-Jordan algorithm, we found out a lot of regional memory access tendency in the algorithm. We also consider this memory access tendency. To solve these problems, we divide the matrix data as many as numbers of processors which was assigned to calculate matrix inversion. Dividing directions both horizontal and vertical are possible to imply. Matrix inversion has steps, and this step is increase according to the size of the matrix, and previous step calculation results are used at each step calculation results. To do above process, we use a parallel scheduler. Parallel scheduler manages the all processors and synchronizes these processors calculation. Research is focused on solving massive matrix inversion, so we test our research in cloud computing system, and we obtain the progress results. © 2011 acm.
