This paper deals with time disturbances localization in critical time manufacturing job-shops. In such systems operation times are included between a minimum and a maximum value. Controlled P-time Petri nets are used for modeling. Some definitions and a series of lemmas are quoted in order to build a theory dealing with such problem. They are illustrated step by step on examples of a given workshop.

The design of an air-conditioning system for a commercial aircraft, which functions in various life cycle stages, proves difficult because atmospheric conditions differ greatly according to the flight phase. This paper proposes the use of constraint programming in the exploration of design spaces and the search for feasible embodiments. This approach produces the best design compromises between various design objectives, whatever the life cycle stage. The entire design space is explored for potential solutions and their performance assessed, thus allowing for decision support at the end of the embodiment design phase

A piece of fashionable garment is a piece of art work. In the classical form, a piece of message is hidden or embedded in the art work. The simplified model is in the form of an artist creating the art work which embeds a message to be perceived by the reader. However, to ensure a reader can understand the message correctly, the artist may design the garment and organize the design elements in some systematic way, according to the design theory or semiotics. In this article, a linguistic model is proposed to describe the semiotic structure of the design elements which in turn form a fashion statement. Examples will be demonstrated.

The main bridge of Wuhan Tianxingzhou Bridge is a long span cable-stayed bridge with double towers and three inclined cable planes. It is the longest highway-railway combined cable-stayed bridge in China, which the main span is 504 m. The paper systematically recommends an efficient wind field simulation technique for wind-induced vibration analysis of long-span bridges. On this basis, the turbulent wind field of Tianxingzhou Bridge is simulated. Then the statistic characteristics of the simulated wind field are compared with their target correlation functions. A satisfactory agreement has been reached. This shows that the simulation theory is successful.

In this paper, we present the implementation of a software estimation model to evaluate effort, schedule and cost of software development during all the phases of a project. An approach based on COCOMO II model is used, and we propose an adaptation to a particular context of an organization. Both human and cultural aspects of the company are considered in order to mitigate the problem of acceptability. Our model is based on the work of Dr. Allan Albrecht on Function Points (FP) and Dr. Barry Boehm on COCOMO II model

In the present clinical fields, medical doctors mainly use modified ashworth scale (MAS) to evaluate spasticity. However, MAS is manual and qualitative method and results depend on doctors. The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to quantitatively evaluate spasticity using a neuro-musculo-skeletal model. The proposed model consisted of the muscular activation model, variable viscoelastic model of the muscles, musculoskeletal model, muscle spindle model and alpha motoneuron model. This model could represent spasticity patient's knee pendulum well. A parameter related with sensitivity of the muscle spindle was a factor to evaluate spasticity quantity.

Much attention has been focused on a revolutionary hypersonic propulsion system named AJAX, and the poor performance of MHD accelerator has been demonstrated by computational and experimental efforts, which is the key component for energy reintroduction in AJAX. The reason for the poor performance of MHD accelerator is investigated in this paper, and the explorative work about a new manner for energy reintroduction is carried out, in which arc technology is supposed to displace MHD accelerator. Some discussions for the above two cases are investigated qualitatively and quantitatively based on thermodynamic principal, and the comparative analysis results show that the engine specific thrust for the case of arc technology is equivalent to that for the case of MHD accelerator under ideal and undeal computational condition respectively

Aiming at reducing the number of tests, this paper presents a method of optimal experiment design in sensory evaluation using IOWA operator inference and similarity measurement. Different from classical techniques, this method is an on-line experiment design, permitting to take into account results of old tests in the design of each new test. It can effectively reduce the total number of tests or comparisons while maintaining high accuracy of evaluation

Adaptive control strategy is proposed to regulate the drum-level of a power plant boiler. Based on the three-element feedwater control system, recursive least squares method is used to identify the plant parameters and then genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to adjust the parameters of the controller. MATLAB simulation investigation indicates that, compared to the parameter-fixed PID system, GA-self-tuned system is able to reject endogenous and exogenous disturbances more effectively and rapidly, thus has better self-adaptation capability and robustness.

This paper proposes a compliance controller for a pneumatic actuator, the controller composed of a pressure controller and a positioning controller whose performance is improved by the introduction of a friction observer. The pressure controller incorporated into the compliance controller compensates for the actuator's response delay. The friction observer performs an on-line estimation of the friction force at the seals between the sliding parts in the actuator and cancels the adverse influence of the friction force on positioning. Its estimation performance is also enhanced by modifying it for a pneumatic actuator. It is experimentally confirmed that the proposed controller realizes highly accurate positioning when unrestrained by an obstacle and appropriate compliance under contact with an obstacle
