A rate control approach is proposed to deal with the low delay H.264/AVC video transmission over channels with burst errors by applying stochastic optimization technique. Based on the exponential rate-distortion and the linear variance prediction model, the one pass rate control algorithm will take into account the channel state and round trip delay, and make an immediate decision on the optimal rate allocation for the video frame. Simulation results show that for different end to end delay constraints and round trip delay, the number of lost frames is significantly reduced, and the average reconstruction peek signal to noise ratio is improved by 0.5-1.6dB, compared with the reference rate control scheme [ARA, 01]

In this paper one uses some tools of automatic control to stabilize the Moroccan sardine fishery system, the continuous age-structured fishery model is considered. More precisely one takes the ashing effort as a control term the age classes as a states and the total catch as a measured output. One interests in the design of a fishing strategy by constructing a linear feed back control law that permits to stabilize the studied system around a nontrivial steady state. One gives a sufficient condition for a globally stabilizing for the system via Lyapunov function.

Since the large scale and complex manufacturing systems have a hierarchical structure and the controllers are geographically distributed according to their physical structure, it is desirable to realize the hierarchical and distributed control. In this paper, the methods of the modeling and decomposition of the large and complex discrete event manufacturing systems are considered, and a methodology is presented for hierarchical and distributed control, where the cooperation of each controller is implemented so that the behavior of the overall system is not deteriorated and the task specification is completely satisfied. First, the task specification is defined as a Petri net model at the conceptual level, and then transformed to the detailed Petri net representation of manufacturing processes. Finally, the overall Petri net is decomposed and the constituent subnets are assigned to the machine controllers. The machine controllers are coordinated so that the decomposed transitions fire at the same time. System coordination through communication between the coordinator and machine controllers, is presented. Modeling and control of large and complex manufacturing systems can be performed consistently using Petri nets

By Gaussian mixture autoregressive model, the probability density and power spectrum density of non-Gaussian colored processes can be well fit. Its parameters can be exact estimated through the LS-EM algorithm discussed in this paper. After descriptions of the model and estimation problem, LS-EM algorithm is deduced. And a numerical instance is illustrated. In fact, LS-EM is an algorithm for coupling estimation of parameters between probability density and power spectrum density. Firstly, rough estimation of the latter is obtained using the conventional least squares technology and then prewhitening is applied to forecast white driving source, based on which estimation of the former is produced by the EM iteration. And then, a weighted function is founded on probability density parameter, with which the weighted least squares estimation is built up. In such a way, the accurate estimation of model parameters is obtained

In the video coding standard H.264/AVC, various coding tools have been proposed to improve the efficiency of motion compensation (MC). In this paper, the overlapped block motion estimation and compensation (OBME/MC) is applied to the framework of H.264/AVC encoder to further increase the coding performance. Our main contribution is to adapt the overlapped weighting factors to the coding mode of neighboring blocks, thus allowing efficient integration of OBMC with variable block size motion compensation in H.264. The result shows that integration of OBMC will provide PSNR gain up to 0.21dB when the encoding bit-rate is high

M-QAM is a modulation technology with high spectral efficiency, due to the property of Gray-coded constellation phasor where different bits have distinct anti-noise ability. Scalable video coding has the ability to transmit partial bit streams thus reconstruct lower video quality according to the channel status to cater for the channel fluctuation. A rate-distortion optimized (RDO) wireless video streaming algorithm is proposed, in which the allocation of M-QAM subchannels, the numbers of scalable video layers, and channel coding protection priorities for different layers are considered jointly. Compared with the EEP without considering prioritized sub-channels, the proposed algorithm derives PSNR gain about 1.5-2dB, and demonstrates the robustness of the video streaming over wireless channels

In aircraft health management applications, there are two types of data available, parametric and non-parametric data. Parametric data, such as sensor measurements from engine or airframe, have traditionally been the primary data source for proactive diagnostic and performance monitoring applications because they allow one to trend even subtle changes over time. Non-parametric data (e.g., error logs and fault messages, that are either of textual nature or binary flags) are more often used for event driven maintenance. Fundamentally, both information sources harbor diagnostic information that, when used together, might improve results for both applications. This paper employs a conversion function to parameterize non-parametric information so that it can be used together with parametric data to enhance the diagnosis of aircraft engine faults. Genetic algorithms are applied for fine-tuning of parameters of the conversion function. Experimental results from real engine data are presented

The challenge of multimodal information systems is to provide transport's customers with pertinent real time information during their travels. Unfortunately, the exponential growth of services and information providers available on large networks increases the system decision's difficulty to offer best solutions in term of cost and response time. The complexity of such systems can be properly described in terms of interaction between different kinds of autonomous entities. Therefore we propose a multi-agent system, using mobile agent's technology, which is able to reduce network load and overcome its latency. Furthermore, this system is able to provide travellers pertinent interactive information in any chosen data format, taking into account their mobility. However, huge networks suffer from a high incidence of network errors. For this problematic, we propose in this paper a services reassignment process to find rapid solutions in spite of possible occurring trouble through the information providers' network (crash, bottleneck, failure...)

What is the best quantity of a given good that we can buy today for selling tomorrow? Obviously, the answer depends on the knowledge we have about the future trends of the market. When expressing this knowledge by a probability distribution, many assumptions are often introduced that are not founded on actual knowledge, but only on computational ease. In a former paper we have introduced the intermeans parameter as a measure of the dispersion of the demand and we have shown that the robust solution of the newsboy problem when this parameter and the mean are known is not the usual Scarf's rule that gives the robust solution when variance and mean are known. In this paper, the statistical properties of the intermeans parameter are investigated. It will be especially discussed which properties depend on the families of distributions that are addressed and which ones are 'distribution free'. Our assertions are illustrated by numerical examples, and the information value of the various assumptions are observed

The problem of global exponential stability for a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems is examined in this paper. Our stability analysis is based on the use of basic results of integral manifold of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems, the composite Lyapunov method and the notations and properties of Tensoriel algebra. Some of the derived results are presented as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) feasibility tests. Moreover, we pointed out that if the global exponential stability of the reduced order subsystem is established this is equivalent to guarantee the global exponential stability of the original high order closed loop system. An upper bound ε 1 of the small parameter ε, can also be determined up to which established stability conditions via LMI's are maintained verified
