Global cooperative software design is a formidable task because of the communication, and coordination issues. While rescheduling of the tasks is necessary to reduce the impact of communication delay, the dependence of tasks must be well handled. Multiple Component Status Transition Graph (MCSTG) describes task dependence within and between components efficiently and support the handle of task dependence. A computer-aided notification mechanism was developed on the basis of MCSTG. The automatic mechanism avoids the task conflicts in coordination while minimizing the cost in project tracking.

This paper presents a new concept of texture image method for displaying divergent-free vector field on surfaces, sine modulated potential (SMP) map. A scalar potential for such vector field is first defined. Field vectors are then mapped to a grayscale image through its scalar potential modulated with a sine function. The image visualizes a soft appearance of flux tubes instead of flux lines, whose orientation and width reflect the direction and amplitude of field vectors respectively. Animated SMP images can identify the exact "flow" direction inside each flux tube for the vector field at a specific moment, which is often missed in other visualization techniques. SMP images can also be animated for visualization of time-varying field, in which the variation of the field in space and the variation with time can be revealed simultaneously.

We present a multi-resolution mesh model of the ocean surface based on a straightforward terrain LOD scheme, tiled quad-tree, with that the region of ocean surface can be extended limitlessly and readily adapted for GPU acceleration. We have introduced the concept of wrapped fractal surface (WFS) for generating height field map of the ocean. Through WFS self-mapping, we can create a series of WFS and obtain the height field map at discrete times without repeating tiles. By interpolating the height map at regular intervals we can build an ocean surface continuously and dynamically. This paper also studied shallow ocean waves concerned about affects of seaboard and underwater terrain. Experimental results showed that our approach was effective and would satisfy the requirements of a realistic real-time navigation for large-scale seascape.

Subdivision surfaces were first developed as an approach to generalize the patchwise quadrilateral structure of the splines to an arbitrary topological representation. They calculate a complete surface model of arbitrary topology in a global calculation step. The algorithms are based on a recursive refinement of an input mesh. The output surfaces can either be described by their limit points or as a collection of parametric patches. Sometimes these patches are however very complicated to describe and evaluate. Furthermore, subdivision algorithms tend to oscillate around extraordinary vertices. For these reasons, subdivision surfaces are not yet widely used in mechanical engineering. In this paper, the FIN algorithm which has been designed especially to meet these problems is applied to problems from manufacturing and reverse engineering. It is proven that it has considerable advantages over methods not based on a subdivision approach.

In this paper, we propose a new framework for developing 3D graphic applications on portable devices such as cellular phones or personal digital assistants (PDAs). Our framework is based on J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) environment, an application environment that specifically addresses the needs of developing programs on embedded systems using Java, and we leverage the advantages of J2ME to build our platform-independent 3D graphic library on mobile devices. Adopting this framework, the 3D program developers can not only implement a cross-platform 3D program easily as they did using OpenGL ES2 library but also gain the powerful features including efficient memory usage and shading functionalities.

A new method to obtain explicit re-parameterization using piecewise rational linear functions is presented in this paper. Based on the outstanding performance of Mobius transformation on modifying pieces with monotonic parametric speed, we create a partition of the original curve, in which the parametric speed of each segment is of monotonic variation. The values of new parameters corresponding to the subdivision points are specified a priori as the ratio of its cumulative arc length and its total arc length. C/sup 1/ continuity conditions are imposed to each segment, thus, with respect to the new parameters, the objective function is linear and admits a closed-form optimization. Analysis of examples shows that, our method brings a curve very close to the arc length parameterization under L/sub 2/ norm but with fewer segments.

One of the problems in building collaborative and intelligent design systems is the difficulty in integrating computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) with knowledge to generate results to the satisfaction of designers who often have high demands on aesthetics. In order to assist designers in the early stages of a product development this paper develops an intelligent methodology for integrating user knowledge and design knowledge. Taken the mobile phone form design as an example, a prototype intelligent conceptual design system is implemented, which consists essentially of the knowledge agents, each of which is a knowledge system with the capabilities of problem reasoning and learning. With this system, product designer and user can carry out simultaneously and intelligently in an Internet-based computer-aided product concurrent design system.

Paper describes the design of open architecture for CAD systems and implementation of particular application based on this design. The purpose of described project is to provide CAD developers with open, scaleable set of software components, based on common architecture allowing to implement geometry modeling and drafting applications. In this paper is given description of projects logical hierarchy, external references implementation, wire-frame, surface and solid entities representation, applicationspecific data incapsulation into the projects. At the end of the paper is given short description of bCAD 4 software, developed using present design.

Current inverse global illumination techniques focus on the investigation of opaque objects. In this paper, we present a new method for recovering material properties of crystal-like objects. First of all, the objects in the image are separated into two classes: the opaque objects and the translucent objects. For the translucent objects, by analyzing refractive phenomena, we propose a method to recover an approximation of the refractive index and transmission coefficients. First, obtain the refractive index with the minimum error of color variance by a certain step calculations and then iteratively recover the color parameters. Experiments show that our algorithms can be completed in few iterative steps, and recovery error is very small. With the recovered material properties, the scene can be rendered under novel lighting or viewing conditions, and it can also be rendered when new objects are added into the scene.
