Craniofacial reconstruction is fundamental in resolving forensic cases. It is rather challenging due to the complex topology of the craniofacial model and the ambiguous relationship between a skull and the corresponding face. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for 3d craniofacial reconstruction by utilizing Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (CGAN) based on craniofacial depth map. More specifically, we treat craniofacial reconstruction as a mapping problem from skull to face. We represent 3d craniofacial shapes with depth maps, which include most craniofacial features for identification purposes and are easy to generate and apply to neural networks. We designed an end-to-end neural networks model based on CGAN then trained the model with paired craniofacial data to automatically learn the complex nonlinear relationship between skull and face. By introducing body mass index classes(BMIC) into CGAN, we can realize objective reconstruction of 3d facial geometry according to its skull, which is a complicated3d shape generation task with different topologies. Through comparative experiments, our method shows accuracy and verisimilitude in craniofacial reconstruction results.

Computer-Generated Holography (CGH) algorithms identify Three-dimensional (3d) holograms by utilizing focal stacks as their target images. However, periodically slicing depth planes to generate a focal stack can lead to artifacts and reduced contrast in visually salient parts on a 3d scene. We introduce a content-adaptive targeting scheme that prioritizes contrast and optimizes slicing of the depth planes. This way, our new targeting scheme reduces the slicing artifacts in reconstructed3d holographic images.

virtual reality (VR) presents objects or simulated scenes to reproduce situations in a way that is very similar to the real thing. In medicine, processing and3dreconstruction of medical images is an important step in VR that has had significant breakthroughs. We propose a methodology for processing medical images (dICOM), to segment organs, reconstruct structures in 3d and represent structures in a VR environment, in order to provide the specialist with an alternative tool for the analysis of medical images. We present a dICOM image processing method based on area differentiation and3dreconstruction by the 'isodurface' and 'alpha-shape' methods for the creation of a virtual environment in Blender. different studies shows the benefits of VR applied to clinical practice, adding the uses they have as educational tool. Improved3d segmentation andreconstruction methods are needed to obtain more detailed structures and better definition to be used in routine procedures.

Reconstructing the 3d pose of a person in metric scale from a single view image is a geometrically ill-posed problem. For example, we can not measure the exact distance of a person to the camera from a single view image without additional scene assumptions (e.g., known height). Existing learning based approaches circumvent this issue by reconstructing the 3d pose up to scale. However, there are many applications such as virtual telepresence, robotics, and augmented reality that require metric scale reconstruction. In this paper, we show that audio signals recorded along with an image, provide complementary information to reconstruct the metric 3d pose of the person. The key insight is that as the audio signals traverse across the 3d space, their interactions with the body provide metric information about the body's pose. Based on this insight, we introduce a time-invariant transfer function called pose kernel-the impulse response of audio signals induced by the body pose. The main properties of the pose kernel are that (1) its envelope highly correlates with 3d pose, (2) the time response corresponds to arrival time, indicating the metric distance to the microphone, and (3) it is invariant to changes in the scene geometry configurations. Therefore, it is readily generalizable to unseen scenes. We design a multi-stage 3d CNN that fuses audio and visual signals and learns to reconstruct 3d pose in a metric scale. We show that our multi-modal method produces accurate metric reconstruction in realworld scenes, which is not possible with state-of-the-art lifting approaches including parametric mesh regression anddepth regression.
