Accurate 3d urban scene reconstruction from a set of multi-view images is an important and challenging task in various fields such as computer visions and computer graphics. The previous methods are usually in a dilemma when considering the problems of completeness and accuracy, especially for the complex outdoor scenes. To address these issues, in this paper we propose a new framework based on a number of available methods. Apart from joint optimization with image semantic segmentation, we also attempt to introduce a unified evaluation approach for 3d reconstruction. We will fill holes and remove noise with the guidance of semantic information and the evaluation. The aim of our framework is to improve the quality of urban scene reconstruction in terms of completeness and accuracy for point clouds, which are obtained with state-of-art methods. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework on several real public available datasets. As shown in the experimental results, our proposed framework can obtain a better reconstructed model than state-of-art methods. © 2021 IEEE.

Cultural heritage is a lot more than monuments and collections of objects. In addition, it includes traditions and living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants, such as songs, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature, or the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts. These elements constitute the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). Safeguarding of ICH is an important factor in maintaining social coherence along with cultural diversity, but it also is a challenge in modern societies. The digitization of ICH, with the transcription of its artifacts, is already becoming a springboard for its preservation and re-use, but intangible heritage has more to offer than a library of content. Lately, the advancements in extended reality interactive technologies and in artificial intelligence break new ground in understanding and sensing intangible heritage. In this paper, we present the CHROMATA platform which aims at facilitating the creation of novel immersive experiences to sustain ICH. To achieve this, we are developing a web platform that provides the content retrieval from online sources and cultural institutions;the AI services for multimedia analysis, e.g., 3d pose estimation, folklore dance recognition, and textual analysis;the authoring interface where the non-developers designers can create their virtual experience. The various data (images, video, text, audio, and 3d models) are analysed using state-of-the-art methods for dance recognition and visualization, Laban Movement Analysis and Labanotation generation, textual sentiment analysis and text generation. Moreover, 3d reconstruction techniques are employed to accurately capture places of interest, as well as human activities to create the related virtual spaces. With its short time-consuming, high-precision, and low-cost characteristics, Oblique photography technology has been widely used in surveying, remote sensing, and other fields. due to the airport usually has airplanes in operation, it is difficult to obtain aerial images of airports, especially for antennas and other facilities that require relatively high modeling accuracy. This paper takes the airport Instrument Landing System(ILS) glideslope, a complex building with antennas, as an example, to carry out the research on the rapid modeling of a single camera with free-photo-control-point based on Oblique photography. First, to obtain a complete, high-resolution aerial image of the ILS glideslope, plan the path of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) photography, determine the flight height, flight radius, and other parameters;Secondly, improve the 3d airport model by adding orthophotos. Finally, by comparing the accuracy of the 3d modeling of the two sets of different parameters, obtain a strategy suitable for rapid modeling. The study shows that the proposed method can complete the high-precision 3d reconstruction of the airport's complex navigation facilities in a short time. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. For better prediction, predictive preclinical models need high physiological similarity, reproducibility, and high-content or high-throughput screening. So far, predictive models have been fabricated reconstructing complex tumor microenvironment (TME), but low throughput and reproducibility. Here, we present a high-throughput and reproducible three-dimensional (3d) TME platform with 96-well plate format. We reconstructed 3d vascularized TME with colorectal cancer cell line SW480 and screened an anti-cancer drug, irinotecan, using the live/dead assay. 3d vascular network around tumor helps drug delivery with higher death ratio. We envision that the platform provides better clinical opportunities with better prediction with robust and sophisticated 3d vascularized TME. © 2021 MicroTAS 2021 - 25th International conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences. While sailing, sailors rely on their eyes to inspect the sail shape and adjust the configurations to achieve an appropriate shape for a certain the weather condition. Mastering this so-called trimming process requires years of experience since the visual inspection of the sail shape suffers from inaccuracies and many times are difficult to communicate verbally. Therefore, this research proposes a visual analysis tool that presents an accurate sail shape representation and supports sailors in investigating the optimal sail shape for certain weather conditions. In order to achieve our goals, we reconstruct the 3d sail shape from point clouds acquired by photogrammetry methods. For incomplete acquisitions we deform a complete template sail to estimate the missing parts. We designed a visualization dashboard for sailors to explore the 3d structure, 2d profiles and characteristics of the time-varying sail shape as well as analyze their relation to boat speed. The usability of the visualization tool is tested through a qualitative evaluation with two sailing experts. The result shows that the reconstruction and deformation of sail shape are plausible. Furthermore, the visualization dashboard has the potential to enhance sailors' comprehension of sail shape and provide insights towards optimal trimming. © 2021 Eurographics Association. A major increase in brain tumor has been seen in recent years, and it is in the tenth position. It is sever type of cancer and influences in people of all ages. Hence, if diagnosed well at the initial stage, it will turn out to be one of the most curable types of tumors. The computer aided analysis of MRI is performed to diagnosis the tumor through the process of classifying and segmenting. From the previous years of study, the research areas are mainly concentrated on machine and deep learning for brain malignancy prediction and treatment. The two dimensional MRI images helps to detect and classify the brain cancer precisely and efficiently. Usually the MRI images are two dimensional and not give sufficient knowledge regarding the structure and exact size of the tumor can be removed, and the detection procedure has become more complex. Since two-dimensional images never offer the actual feeling of exactly how a tumor looks, diagnosis includes 3d tumor reconstruction, planning for surgery and biological studies. The survival rate shows gives us an exact picture of the number of patients who have survived after the tumor is identified. The 5-year and 10 year survival rate is approximately 36 percent and 31 percent respectively for persons with a cancerous brain or CNS tumor. For increasing the survival rate of brain tumor, 3d image reconstruction can be used and it is one of the best attractive features in virtual reality, especially because of its application in medical image processing. © 2021 IEEE

Meshes generated by range scanners are often incomplete and contain complex holes due to limited input coverage and occlusion. In this paper, we present an effective method to fill the gap regions on meshes by leveraging the templates inferred from the learning-based method. We first segment both source and template models into corresponding parts. Each part will be aligned with non-rigid deformation. We then modify the gap regions by "virtual" depth maps rendered using the aligned parts from newly selected viewpoints. Comparing with the template-based mesh completion approaches, our algorithm can generate natural appearances without any user interaction. Comparing with the state-of-the-art volumetric fusion methods, our approach supports selective blending, which only modifies the regions of interest and prevents bad template inference from impacting the source.

In this paper, we rethink the problem of scene reconstruction from an embodied agent's perspective: While the classic view focuses on the reconstruction accuracy, our new perspective emphasizes the underlying functions and constraints such that the reconstructed scenes provide actionable information for simulating interactions with agents. Here, we address this challenging problem by reconstructing an interactive scene using RGB-d data stream, which captures (i) the semantics and geometry of objects and layouts by a 3d volumetric panoptic mapping module, and (ii) object affordance and contextual relations by reasoning over physical common sense among objects, organized by a graph-based scene representation. Crucially, this reconstructed scene replaces the object meshes in the dense panoptic map with part-based articulated CAd models for finer-grained robot interactions. In the experiments, we demonstrate that (i) our panoptic mapping module outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods, (ii) a high-performant physical reasoning procedure that matches, aligns, and replaces objects' meshes with best-fitted CAd models, and (iii) reconstructed scenes are physically plausible and naturally afford actionable interactions;without any manual labeling, they are seamlessly imported to ROS-based simulators and virtual environments for complex robot task executions.

With the recent emergence of virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed-reality technologies, considerable attention has been received to integrate spatial audio recording capabilities into these devices. Extracting higher order spherical harmonics from the recordings is not always possible due to complex scattering effects from the arbitrary-shaped devices, which motivates the need for modeling the acoustic properties beyond free-field convention. In this paper, we propose modeling the wearable device-related transfer function (WdRTF) that incorporates scattering, and diffraction from the device and wearer’s body to an incident soundfield. We adopt the spherical wave model to translate the measurements into microphone alignment, by exploiting both magnitude and phase corrections. We use a discrete set of measurements by multiple circular arrays for efficiently estimating the WdRTF coefficients. We illustrate the WdRTF modeling procedure from a head-worn microphone array and obtain accurate reconstruction performance over frequency and 3d directions.

We introduce Monte Carlo Physarum Machine: a dynamic computational model designed for reconstructing complex transport networks. MCPM extends existing work on agent-based modeling of Physarum polycephalum with a probabilistic formulation, making it suitable for 3d reconstruction and visualization problems. Our motivation is estimating the distribution of the intergalactic medium—the cosmic web, which has so far eluded full spatial mapping. MCPM proves capable of this task, opening up a way towards answering a number of open astrophysical and cosmological questions. © 2020 Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
