Computational ecosystems in which classical supercomputers and general-purpose quantum computers provide a steady increase in value-creating computation capabilities have shown immense progress in recent years. Superconducting qubit technology, in particular, has emerged as a leading candidate for realizing a scalable quantum computing platform ready for paving the way to commercial quantum advantage. However, current academic approaches in fabrication and testing of quantum devices are not scalable and have already started to limit the rapid development of the field. Novel solutions are required to tackle the combined challenge of increasing the qubit count on a quantum processor and the need to further reduce the qubit’s error rates. This, in turn, will lead to a renewed acceleration in qubit manufacturing, test and diagnostics. Here we present aspects of how to move superconducting qubit manufacturing and testing from small-scale laboratory to large-scale fabrication facility environments. To enable this transfer, two key ingredients are demonstrated: (i) A foundry-compatible fabrication process of superconducting qubits that can benefit from the advanced process control in industry-scale CMOS fabrication facilities, and (ii) an acceleration of testing and cryogenic measurement throughput by using a milli-Kelvin cryo-CMOS signal multiplexer operating in near proximity to quantum devices and integrated qubit diagnostic and benchmarking tools with end-to-end data analytics. Although some of these elements have been explored independently, co-development is crucial to enable an efficient scalable development cycle for quantum computing technology. A full development cycle consisting of scalable manufacturing, testing, and benchmarking will enable the large-scale fabrication and control of quantum computing devices and thus pave the way to commercial quantum advantage. © 2023 SPIE.

This paper summarizes the current state of research on finned tube heat exchangers to provide guidance and reference for their heat transfer design as well as application. The different types of fin structures used to enhance heat transfer outside the tube are broadly classified as flat fins, corrugated fins, and slotted fins. This paper analyzes and summarizes the effects of different fin structure parameters such as fin pitch, fin length, fin thickness, number of tube rows, tube spacing, and pipe diameter on the heat transfer performance and flow friction performance of heat exchangers under different fins structures. © 2022 SPIE.

The two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure composed of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) has great photoelectric properties because of different energy band arrangements and interactions between layers. The lattice structure and photophysical properties of TMDs can be regulated through pressure, thus altering the properties of interlayer excitons. This study's chemical vapor deposition method grew MoS2/WS2 vertical heterostructure. Its vibration mode signal and interactions between layers under pressure were investigated by pressure-variable Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. We found that an inflection point appears at 1.22 GPa-1.89 GPa, and the PL peak changed with the variation trend of pressure. It is believed that the energy band transformation of MoS2/WS2 vertical heterostructures is induced by pressure. Our findings provide valuable information which is conducive to the development of new functional optoelectronic devices. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the traditional logistics and distribution process, a large number of tasks cannot be completed accurately and in a timely manner due to errors in manual operations, low efficiency, and high requirements for the working environment. The automated sorting system, by introducing advanced technologies such as image recognition, radio frequency identification (RFID), deep learning, and computer vision, can achieve rapid, accurate, and intelligent item classification and sorting. This ultimately improves delivery efficiency, reduces service costs, and minimizes human errors. This article introduces an automated sorting system based on image recognition and robotic arm grasping. In terms of model selection, we experimented with various deep learning models and ultimately chose InceptionV2 as the final model. To improve the model's accuracy, we adjusted relevant parameters and introduced transfer learning to optimize the model. Experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of transfer learning significantly enhances the model's accuracy, performing well on both the training and testing datasets. Finally, we utilized the CoppeliaSim robot simulation platform to realize the robotic arm's grasping and classification of items on a conveyor belt, completing the closed loop of the automated sorting system. © 2024 SPIE.

As the device characteristic size become tiny, the failure mode shall be more complex and challenging. Traditional isolation techniques such as photon emission microscope (PEM) and optical beam induced resistance change (OBIRCH) are not effective to localize the explicit defect in tremendous complexity cases. Therefore, the advanced dynamic EFA techniques are definitely required. In this study, a novel and effective dynamic analysis technique (DAT) was proposed, which combines PEM and evaluation board to determine the failure location specifically. In 5nm logic device, this method has been successfully applied to diagnose the failure location and identify functional failure mode of SerDes module leakage during testing at low temperature. Eventually, the results showed that DAT could localize the failure site immediately and accurately. Recently, the manufacturing of silicon node had been scaling down dramatically, we would keep on DAT development for the next generation semiconductor devices.

In recent years, the diagnostic level of urological diseases in China has significantly improved, with urodynamics (UDS) becoming an essential diagnostic tool for assessing urinary dysfunction. However, traditional urodynamic testing faces challenges related to low sensitivity, bulky equipment, and complex operation. This paper proposes a plastic optical fiber pressure sensor design based on reflective intensity modulation. The theoretical foundation for this innovative structure is derived, followed by simulation based on the theoretical analysis. The results demonstrate that the sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity and stability. These characteristics position it as a promising solution to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of urodynamic monitoring in clinical applications, ultimately improving the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases.

Currently, widely used glucose sensors rely on enzyme catalysts, which suffer from issues such as enzyme inactivation, high production costs, and insufficient stability. To address these challenges, this study fabricated TiO2 films on Ti sheets using radio frequency magnetron sputtering and subsequently modified Au nanoparticles (NPs) and CuO films via direct current magnetron sputtering. Then, Au and CuO co-modified TiO2 (CuO-Au@TiO2) photoelectrode with a Z-type band structure was prepared, enabling enzyme-free glucose detection via photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing technology. The optimized photoelectrode exhibited high sensitivity for glucose detection, with values of 7300 μA μM-1 cm-2 (0–1 mM) and 500 μA μM-1 cm-2 (1–10 mM) under AM 1.5G illumination at a bias of 0.2 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The detection limit was determined to be 58.14 μM (Signal/Noise = 3), with excellent stability, repeatability, and selectivity. Spectral and PEC performance analyses revealed that the outstanding sensing performance of the CuO-Au@TiO2 photoelectrode can be attributed to: (1) unique Z-Type band structure promoting carrier separation;(2) the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect induced by Au NPs enhancing light absorption;(3) CuO can undergo a specific enzyme-like catalytic reaction with glucose molecules under alkaline conditions. This research offers a novel, convenient, and accurate monitoring approach for diabetes management and prevention. © 2024 SPIE.

In hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturing processes, there are unrecovered serial number images about 0.01% from the standard optical character recognition (OCR) reading and deep learning approach. We found several failures from two main causes, i.e. manufacturing process and image capture process during standard OCR reading. We proposed classification model used for recognizing the serial number reading failures based on object detection You-Only-Look- Once (YOLO) algorithm and EfficientNet-B0 classification network as well as histogram analysis. The 1000 images captured by digital camera were used for training (600 images) and validation (400 images) the ROI detection model. The other 2100 captured images were used for training and testing classification OCR failure from manufacturing process model. The model testing was performed in 900 images contained 9 causes (classes) of failures. The proposed model reaches F1 score = 0.94. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.

Mulberry silk fabrics are very popular due to their soft lustre, comfortable handle and smooth texture. Currently, the traditional textile testing methods are deficient to provide a fast and sensitive directional detection way or quantitative characterization data to study different process stages of the textile. Here, we used crepe de chine as silk samples for microscopy detection. Both confocal fluorescence microscopy and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) methods have been applied into observing samples at different process stages to obtain their surface morphology and fluorescence lifetime distribution. The confocal results showed that the samples had autofluorescence under excitation at several wavelengths. The fluorescent intensities of different samples from a series of process stages of the silk manufacture or the air-dried pure sericin were obtained under the 640 nm excitation, which was used in the following FLIM experiments. FLIM results showed that in undyed group, the lifetime values of the raw silk fabric were around 2400 ps. The lifetime of the sample with partial sericin left were similar to those in the raw silk fabric while the intensities were decreased. The optical properties of the dyed fabrics were similar to the undyed group, but their lifetime values were lower than those of the undyed group, suggesting that the silk fabrics had different optical properties due to the factors including the residual amount of sericin and dyeing condition. Briefly, FLIM can provide a non-destructive method for real-time quantitative investigation of the silk fabrics at different process stages, providing information for parameters such as the residual amount of sericin. © 2024 SPIE.

The strain transfer correction model is proposed for the surface-adhesive tubular fiber sensor on Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC). The adhesive layer shear stress is assumed to be quadratically distributed and displacement averaging method is used, and the effect of internal shear stress in the structural body is also considered, so that the corrective model proposed in this paper has an error of no more than 1% in the numerical calculations and finite element simulation results. The tensile test experiments were completed on the UHPC, and the strain transfer coefficients are 0.919, 0.911, and 0.913, with an average value of 0.914, which was more consistent with the theoretical result of 0.95, with an error of 3.79%. The linearity of fiber sensor in the three repeated experiments is good, the repeatability error is small, the R 2 is above 0.99, and the hysteresis error is 3.33%.
