With rapidly advancing composite manufacturing industry in recent years, advanced composites have become favourable alternative materials to conventional alloys in marine propeller production. However, composite structures are very susceptible to failure and thus strain monitoring in multiple locations throughout the structure will be essential to prevent catastrophic failure. In this experiment, composite hydrofoil was manufactured using resin transfer moulding (RTM) and embedded with a standard single mode optical fibre along the trailing and leading edges for distributed strain sensing. Distributed sensing with continuous fibre can be implemented in complex composite structures such as a high performance composite hydrofoil or propeller for structural monitoring purposes. Quasi-static loads were applied to the instrumented composite hydrofoil achieving deflections of up to 11 mm to monitor strains in multiple locations through distributed fibre sensing using a high sensitivity optical backscatter reflectometer (OBR). The strain field within the layered hydrofoil was produced, and the experimental result was validated using finite element analysis. The combined numerical and experimental validation demonstrates that fibre optic distributed sensing is reliable and can be utilised for structural health monitoring of high performance composite hydrofoils. © 2017 International Committee on Composite Materials. This work has for objective to evaluate the microstructure of clayey ceramic incorporated with a waste in the form of sludge generated during treatment of effluent of a paper making industry. The microstructure of ceramics incorporated with 0 and 10 wt.% of waste, and then fired at 600°C, was evaluated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the waste changes the microstructure of the clayey ceramic increasing the porosity, as well as forming new crystalline phases, mainly with calcium compounds. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Yield improvement, yield ramp, and defect screening have been major areas of concern for the semiconductor industry as technology nodes have advanced. Much effort has been focused on capturing the defects missed by traditional stuck-at and transition delay fault model based testing. A majority of these un-modeled defects stems from features inside a standard cell or between two adjacent standard cells. Traditionally, critical area has been used as the manufacturability guideline to determine opens and shorts that should be targeted for test. This paper motivates a new paradigm - a design-for-manufacturability (DFM) hotspot-aware fault model to target intra-cell and inter-cell defects. The basic objective behind this approach is to bring in knowledge of manufacturing vulnerability in design layouts to weigh likelihood of occurrence of systematic defects. Recent technologies have standard cells much smaller than the lithography-driven optical diameter which means the cell's feature context is a key driver for DFM-driven fault sensitivity. This paper describes a novel automated flow for cell characterization that can be used to create patterns at the cell boundary for DFM-aware faults. The paper presents ATPG results for different DFM-aware faults, and analyzes the coverage gaps. Finally, the paper ends with a comparison with the cell-aware and dual-cell-aware fault models, and describes relative advantages and application scenarios.

The graphene has unique structural,electrical, thermal, optical and mechanical *** this study, the graphene/epoxy composite was prepared by using special polymer casting ***(EDA) chemical reduction method prepared graphene aerogel, and then it was infiltrated into the mixture(including Epoxy resin and curing).Finally, the graphene/epoxy composite was produced after degassed and cured. The tensile and SENB testing indicates that the toughness of epoxy can be improved by introducing graphene aerogel. The graphene/epoxy has the best toughness when the graphene fraction is0.7 wt.%. In addition, it explains toughening mechanism from the microscopic.

A servo-controlled tension-internal pressure testing machine with an optical 3D digital image correlation system (DIC) is used to measure the multiaxial deformation behavior of an extruded aluminum alloy tube for a strain range from initial yield to fracture. The outer diameter of the test sample is 50.8 mm and wall thickness 2.8 mm. Nine linear stress paths are applied to the specimens: σɸ (axial true stress component) : σθ (circumferential true stress component) = 1:0, 4:1, 2:1, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 1:2, 1:4, and 0:1. The equivalent strain rate is approximately 5 × 10-4 s-1 constant. The forming limit curve (FLC) and forming limit stress curve (FLSC) are also measured. Moreover, the average true stress components inside a localized necking area are determined for each specimen from the thickness strain data for the localized necking area and the geometry of the fracture surface.

The present study addresses the need for grain refinement in free sintered titanium alloys produced by 3D screen printing. Thermohydrogen processing (THP) was used for temporary alloying Ti-6Al-4V with hydrogen to refine its microstructure. The impact on microstructure was investigated by a parameter study with varying temperatures, exposure times and hydrogen partial pressures. Heat treated specimens were examined by optical microscopy, XRD and thermal analysis. The influence of the refined microstructure on the mechanical properties was evaluated by tensile and microhardness testing. Ultrafine grained microstructures with ultimate tensile strengths of up to more than 1000 MPa could be produced. © 2016 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In the state of the art development of chip manufacturing (FinFet technology for example) both optical inspection and inline electrical test are deployed to monitor and facilitate the process development. While optical inspection provides critical process evaluation at the sector inline electrical test (ILT) at Ml provides the information of process impact on the electrical signal, which ultimately is the indication of device operation and performance. It is always tempting but not trivial to compare the optical inspection result (defect density) with the in-line electrical test result (yield) in a quantitative way. Nuances in doing such correlation between the inspection and electrical yield are discussed. In the scenario where a correlation could not be established, ranking the different inspections in terms of yield impact is another source to provide feedback to the process development. To build such yield impact Pareto three different algorithms for counting the sector contribution to the electrical fail are compared.

In recent years, high frequency errors of mirror surface are taken seriously gradually. In manufacturing process of advanced telescope, there is clear indicator about high frequency errors. However, the sub-mirror off-axis aspheric telescope used is large. If uses the full aperture interferometers shape measurement, you need to use complex optical compensation device. Therefore, we propose a method to detect non-spherical lens based on the high-frequency stitching errors. This method does not use compensation components, only to measure Aperture sub-surface shape. By analyzing Zernike polynomial coefficients corresponding to the frequency errors, removing the previous 15 Zernike polynomials, then joining the surface shape, you can get full bore inside tested mirror high-frequency errors. 330mm caliber off-axis aspherical hexagon are measured with this method, obtain a complete face type of high-frequency surface errors and the feasibility of the approach.
