The evolution of manufacturing systems has greatly accelerated due to development of sophisticated control systems. On top of determined, one way production flow the need of decision making has arisen as a result of growing product range that are manufactured simultaneously, using the same resources. On the other hand, the intelligent flow control could address the 'bottleneck' problem caused by the machine failure. This sort of manufacturing systems uses advanced control algorithms that are introduced by the use of logic controllers. The complex algorithms used in the control systems requires to employ appropriate methods during the modelling process, like the agent-based one, which is the subject of this paper. The concept of an agent is derived from the object-based methodology of modelling, so it meets the requirements of representing the physical properties of the machines as well as the logical form of control systems. Each agent has a high level of autonomy and could be considered separately. The multi-agent system consists of minimum two agents that can interact and modify the environment, where they act. This may lead to the creation of self-organizing structure, what could be interesting feature during design and test of manufacturing system.

The current stage of design methodology development and the development of a specific approach of Industry 4.0 enforces new solutions in the field of design heuristics and new solutions in the field of their integration. In the first case, this applies in particular to the development of new design methods, aimed at creating unconventional structural solutions of systems with complex performance characteristics. In the second case, this concerns the search for tools and methods of IT for combining partial solutions into integrated, synergistic construction solutions. One of the elements characterizing Industry 4.0 is the integration of approaches in the field of automation and data processing and exchange as well as manufacturing. This type of integration fits into the implementation of the mechatronic function, the aim of which is not only to learn about the kinematics and dynamics of the system under study, but also its behaviour during controlled work. The first stage of the technical system research process understood in this way is to design a new system. The developed integration method will minimize the risk of malfunctioning of the actual control system.

A threshold segmentation method for non-uniform illumination image based on brightness equalization

In the process of image acquisition, non-uniform illumination images are common due to poor lighting, surface reflection, or a combination of these two factors. In order to improve the quality of image segmentation, an image threshold segmentation method is proposed for non-uniform illumination images. First, the brightness of different regions in the image is compensated to make the brightness background of the whole image consistent. Second, the gradation histogram of the processed image is obtained and simulated into Gaussian distribution curve, then the inflection points of the curve are calculated. Finally, the two inflection points are set as thresholds to segment the image after brightness equalization. This method eliminates the influence of non-uniform illumination to a certain extent and gets a better segmentation effect. Experiments were carried out on images containing several different types of non-uniform illumination. The results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the compared enhancement algorithms in threshold segmentation.

Creation of an integrated electronic system for planning and cost control as a tool for effective enterprise management

The paper identifies and analyzes the main problems in the accounting and cost control system at the enterprise. Cost management of an enterprise is of great importance to ensure its stable and efficient operation. The imperative of effective cost management is the automation of this process applying information computer technologies and electronic document management. The study proposes a new system of advanced accounting and cost control with the accompanying introduction of electronic document management. It is necessary for solving the problem of untimely cost control already at the stage of planning work/services in the context of responsibility centers, cost centers, budget items. The authors substantiate the advantages of the system. The proposed system will help avoid cost control upon the provision of primary documents to operational control of planned costs. Moreover, anticipatory cost control at an earlier stage will help redistribute the workload of specialists at later stages and save the time of responsible persons for a full detailed analysis of cost management. It is a prerequisite for effective cost management. The integrated system is proposed by the author based on 1C: Enterprise software. It will help the enterprise implement the transition to a full circulation of primary documentation confirmed in paper form at the accounting stage (without double approval of the responsible specialists). Thanks to the introduction of the integrated cost accounting and control system, the company will eliminate such disadvantages as untimely cost control, disunity of forms of planning of works and services, accounting and control of costs, lack of a unified information base as an operational source for the development of funds at the time of application creating for work and services, the time limit for complete and comprehensive cost analysis, paperwork that requires time and transportation costs.

Study of inter-operational breaks impact on materials flow in flexible manufacturing system

Present development of advanced technologies in production and logistics, orientation for a customer needs and global, competitive market determines a creation of flexible manufacturing systems. Each FMS consisting of the automated and robotized subsystems of production, assembly, inter-operational transport and storage should be treated as a complete logistics system in which the efficient flow of materials is realized, at every stage of processing. The efficiency of the system is based on possibility of quick, automated retooling and reprogramming for the manufacturing of new products, especially in the production for individual order. Except that, according to modern concepts of enterprise management, one of the factors to improve material flow is to minimize unnecessary inter-operative interruptions. The inter-operational breaks include many factors: handling and transport, waiting for a technological operation and assembly, quality control, unpredictable failures. While technological times are almost impossible to shorten, all issues related with logistics are possible to improve. The inter-operational breaks don't create added value, they're only waste. They often remain outside the research sphere or are treated marginally as a loss included in the manufacturing process. The article describes study on an effective method of searching for negative inter-operational breaks in advanced manufacturing processes and eliminating them. advanced software for off-line programming of machine tools, robots, automated transport and warehouse systems and general-purpose simulation software for production and logistics gives possibility to conduct research on limiting the impact of inter-operational breaks on FMS.

Application of the advanced engineering environment for optimization energy consumption in designed vehicles

Nowadays a key issue is to reduce the energy consumption of road vehicles. In particular solution one could find different strategies of energy optimization. The most popular but not sophisticated is so called eco-driving. In this strategy emphasized is particular behavior of drivers. In more sophisticated solution behavior of drivers is supported by control system measuring driving parameters and suggesting proper operation of the driver. The other strategy is concerned with application of different engineering solutions that aid optimization the process of energy consumption. Such systems take into consideration different parameters measured in real time and next take proper action according to procedures loaded to the control computer of a vehicle. The third strategy bases on optimization of the designed vehicle taking into account especially main sub-systems of a technical mean. In this approach the optimal level of energy consumption by a vehicle is obtained by synergetic results of individual optimization of particular constructional sub-systems of a vehicle. It is possible to distinguish three main sub-systems: the structural one the drive one and the control one. In the case of the structural sub-system optimization of the energy consumption level is related with the optimization or the weight parameter and optimization the aerodynamic parameter. The result is optimized body of a vehicle. Regarding the drive sub-system the optimization of the energy consumption level is related with the fuel or power consumption using the previously elaborated physical models. Finally the optimization of the control sub-system consists in determining optimal control parameters.

Formability studies on Ni-Ti shape memory alloy using laser forming technology

Laser forming is an advanced manufacturing process which is extensively used in automotive and manufacturing industry by deforming metallic and non-metallic sheets. In this process, a continuous fiber laser is irradiated over Ni-Ti sheet. As the laser beam imbibed over the sheet, a step temperature thermal gradient got induced across the thickness of the sheet. The bending moment arises due to uneven thermal stresses leads to the deformation of the sheet without using any external forces. This paper shows the experiments performed on Ni-Ti sheets of dimension 60mm×50mm with a maximum power of 50W. The process parameters which were varied are number of passes (10 to 20), power (30W to 50W) to get the maximum bending angle with a uniform spot diameter of 2mm. The study between variations of the bending angle with process parameters is done. After this, the characterization of samples was done using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the changes in phase transformation of Ni-Ti SMA with respect to change in different powers and number of passes is studied.

advanced numerical simulation models for continuous casting of steel were developed in Finland by Casim Consulting and Aalto University in cooperation with the University of Oulu and the steel industry. The aim was to develop models that are scientifically rigorous, but also computationally fast enough to be used in online applications. The models developed are a transient three-dimensional heat transfer model, CastManager, and a solidification and microstructure model, IDS. The computing time of these models are short, and they are integrated together in one online concept. This concept is installed in the automation systems of four slab casters in Finland. Testing and validation work is in progress. The system simulates the important heat transfer, solidification and microstructural phenomena in continuous casting online. The future aim is that this information will be used for online quality control and for optimizing the process conditions to avoid formation of defects. Many quality indices have already been developed. A steady state version of the CastManager tool has also been developed, called Tempsimu.

Development of process optimization model for autonomous mobile robot used in production logistics

Today’s manufacturing companies have begun to increasingly use digital tools to increase their company production efficiency, to ensure a low-price level, high quality, and fast delivery time of the product or service in the conditions of increasing competition in the globalized economy. An important part of improving the company’s efficiency indicators is the ever-more relevant organization of transport operations on the production floor and the digitization and automation of these processes. More and more companies have adopted or plan to do so in the near future with autonomous mobile robots (AMR) to manage production logistics. The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the advanced hardware and control software of AMR enable autonomous operations in dynamic environments, which gives them the ability to communicate and negotiate independently with other resources, such as machines and systems, and thus decentralize decision-making in production processes. Decentralized decision-making allows the system to dynamically respond to changes in system state and environment. Such developments have affected traditional planning and control methods and decision-making processes, but also place greater demands on the software used and integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms for the execution of these decisions. In this study, we provide an overview of how to pilot the integration of an AMR system with AI functionality in the production logistics of the food industry using the concept of a 3D virtual factory. The paper proposes an approach for the performance analysis of AMR for the transportation of goods on the production factory floor, which is based on 3D layout creation and simulation, monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), and integration of AI for proactive decision-making in production planning. The relevance and feasibility of the proposed approach are demonstrated by a food industry case study.

Design of strength characteristics on the example of a mining support

It is a special group of particular design aproches that could be characterized as 'design for X'. All areas of specific these design methodology, taking into account the requirements of the life cycle are described with the acronym DfX. It means an integrated computing platform approach to design binding together both the area of design knowledge and area of computer systems. In this perspective, computer systems are responsible for the link between design requirements with the subject of the project and to filter the information being circulated throughout the operation of the project. The DfX methodologies together form an approach integrating to different functional areas of industrial organization. Among the internal elements it can distinguish the structure of the project team, the people making it, the same process design, control system design and implementation of the action tools to assist this process. Among the elements that are obtained in the framework of this approach should be distinguished: higher operating efficiency, professionalism, the ability to create innovation, incremental progress of the project and the appropriate focus of the project team. It have been done attempts to integrate identified specific areas for action in the field of design methodology. They have already taken place earlier in the design due to the Economic Design for Manufacture. This approach was characteristic for European industry. In this case, an approach was developed in methodology, which can be defined as the Design to/for Cost. The article presents the idea of an integrated design approach related with the DfX approach. The results are described on the base of a virtual 3D model of a mining support. This model was elaborated in the advanced engineering platform like Siemens PLM NX.
