This paper presents a secure IoT framework for remote health monitoring using fog computing, tailored for the Jordanian healthcare context. The proposed Remote Health System (RHS) addresses critical challenges in healthcare IoT applications, including latency, security, and bandwidth consumption. By integrating IoT wireless sensor networks with fog and cloud computing, our framework overcomes limitations prevalent in cloud-only solutions. The architecture leverages fog computing layers to provide local storage, real-time data processing, and preliminary analysis, acting as decision-makers and security checkpoints before relaying data to the cloud for complex functions. We incorporate advanced threat detection mechanisms and secure protocols to protect sensitive health data throughout its lifecycle. The performance and security of the proposed framework were evaluated using FogNetSim++ and OMNeT++ 4.6 simulations. The paper uses fog security and ZigBee communication protocols which implemented in the proposed framework. Results demonstrate the system's ability to reduce latency, energy consumption, and end-to-end delay while maintaining high security levels. CPU usage, memory consumption, and end-to-end delay were analyzed for various node configurations. The framework shows promise in enhancing healthcare delivery in Jordan, particularly in remote and underserved areas, by leveraging the strengths of IoT, fog computing, and cloud infrastructure. This work contributes to the evolving landscape of e-health systems in Jordan, by proposing a scalable, efficient, and secure solution that addresses the unique challenges of the country's healthcare sector. © 2024 IEEE.

The presented paper proposes a model of the Internet of Things (IoT) based Wireless sensor Network (WSN) base station node for outdoor localisation. The node is supposed to be an essential part of the network's infrastructure, where the node should be adapted to the real-time application. This study suggested designing and implementing a base-station sensor node for data collection and trilateration localisation processing. The proposed node is implemented on an FPGA type to utilise the power and speed of this type of circuit in a pure hardware description or a combined hardware/software approach, using languages like C/C++ to describe materials known as a high-level synthesis (HLS) approach. The node incorporates in its architecture a MicroBlaze-type soft-processor to manage tasks like transmission between the different end-device nodes, presenting data at the inputs of the Ip-core for processing, and reading and representing output data. An additional trilateration block has been built as a dedicated IP core for the localisation process. The experimental findings confirmed that the proposed base station node could perform real-time data processing as expected, where a time of 63 microseconds was reached in the RSSI-based outdoor localisation process. © 2023 IEEE.

The Arduino-controlled radar systems constituting the fundamental elements of this RADAR system, an ultrasonic sensor and servo motor are employed. The fundamental operation of the system is to detect objects within the range specified. Attached to the servo motor is an ultrasonic sensor that rotates approximately 180 degrees and provides a graphical representation on the processing IDE software. In addition to providing a graphical representation, the Processing IDE also provides the object's angle, position, and distance. The administration of this system is facilitated by Arduino. The Arduino UNO board is adequate for both interface development and ultrasonic sensor and display device control. We learned about extant navigation and obstacle detection innovations as well as various systems that make efficient use of ultrasonic sensors through our research. This RADAR system is primarily utilized in the fields of object identification, mapping, surveillance, and monitoring, in addition to navigation and positioning. Additionally, these low-cost systems are appropriate for implementation indoors.

Based on light-emitting diode (LED) lighting and recent advances in visible light communication (VLC), we propose a new visible light-based localization scheme that uses a grid color-coding principle to develop a highly accurate localization system. By measuring the light received through the projected area on the color-coded film (for light filtering) and comparing it with a predefined color code, the system can determine the 2-dimensional position of the receiver relative to an LED, i.e., the reference point (RP). It is worth noting that the proposed solution has the following attractive features and differs from existing systems: (i) it uses only one photodiode (PD) on the user device for localization, and (ii) it can provide highly accurate indoor localization with centimeter resolution. Interesting applications include localization for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), advanced warehousing and logistics. Since PD or light sensor can have a response time of about 25 ms or even faster, one can also expect low latency in localization, which is especially suitable for supporting mobile users and new location-based services. Simulation results have shown that an average positioning error of less than 10 centimeters is achievable under suitable conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

sensor-based human activity recognition (S-HAR) has found applications in various domains such as medical care, sports player tracking, and health monitoring using smart wearable devices. Among the different types of sensors used in S-HAR, inertial sensors have gained popularity. Researchers have made significant progress in S-HAR systems over the past decade by employing machine learning (ML) techniques. However, the effectiveness of ML approaches was limited because they relied on manually designed feature extraction methods. To overcome this limitation, researchers have developed deep learning (DL) methodologies that automate the feature extraction process from sensor data. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of an attention mechanism in improving the identification capabilities of DL models. We introduced an efficient method called efficient channel attention (ECA) to enhance the performance of advanced DL models in HAR. To evaluate the progress, we utilized the UCI-HAR dataset, a publicly available benchmark dataset that records six distinct human behaviors in daily living. Five baseline DL models, namely CNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, GRU, and BiGRU, were employed. The ECA mechanism was then incorporated into these models. The experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed ECA mechanism has the potential to improve the recognition capabilities of S-HAR.

In this work, we present a novel design of Smart Chair for Bio medical Application. The main purpose of this proposal is to implement health monitoring system of patients to check medical history using Internet of things. For that we had used various parameter of sensor embedded with chair to read patient's vital signs automatically whenever patient sit on a chair. Apart from that we are using RFID (Radio frequency Identification) card interface with chair for personal identification of patients in hospitals particularly with name, age, health problem etc. Hence, our proposal can be achieved in two cases for hospital as well as for home. At home Smart chair can be used for senior citizen or handicap people for regular check-up while sitting on a chair whenever required. In this case, if physiological parameter (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, pulse rate, body weight and temperature) reads vital signs all matched to its normal value then it indicates green light. And if 3 to 4 parameters get abnormal or varying then it indicates red light and gives alarm notification through android app to the doctor or nearby hospital staffs through alert message in case of emergency, to take appropriate action. In our case we are using Android app or display screen to display the data or results through Wi-Fi module via internet and can be access it from anywhere and anytime. Here, we are storing patient medical history through android application for future reference. © 2023 IEEE.

The study presents an innovative device for real-time counting and identification of adult mosquitoes, integrating IoT technologies, infrared sensors, and machine learning algorithms. The device enhances the functionality of the existing ECODEV trap by offering high accuracy, low cost, energy autonomy, and the capability for both quantitative and qualitative analysis of mosquito populations. The system's architecture is based on sensors that capture mosquito movements and transmit the data via GSM to a central server for analysis. Users can monitor the measurements in real-time through maps and applications. The device was successfully tested, achieving a counting accuracy of 93.29%, surpassing traditional systems. In the future, this technology could be expanded to other applications, such as agriculture and livestock management.

An evidential sensory fusion using 2D feature and 3D shape information method is proposed to recognize the occluded object. For the applications of robotic object fetching, the conventional object recognition methods usually applied the algorithms separately from 2D texture matching or 3D shape fitting. It often causes the wrong recognition results when the objects are occluded. The motivation in this study is to enhance the occluded object recognition via the estimate fusion method from the RGB-D sensor, which provides both 2D image and 3D depth information. To associate the 3D shape with the 2D texture, the region of interest (ROI) is firstly captured in 3D coordinate system, and mapped onto the 2D image. The Dempster-Shafer (DS) evidence theory is applied to fuse the confidences from the recognitions of both 2D texture and 3D shape to increase the recognition rate of occluded objects. The experimental results successfully demonstrate that the proposed evidence fusion recognizes the sample object correctly where it usually has the lower confidences from 2D and 3D recognition algorithms alone, when it operates in a separate fashion. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper delves into the medium-low speed maglev transit system, presenting a novel urban railway mode that forgoes conventional axle-based sensors such as speed odometers due to its maglev propulsion characteristics. The research introduces eddy current sensors as a viable alternative for speed measurement, leveraging their non-contact nature and immunity to mechanical wear and environmental constraints. A sophisticated sensor information fusion algorithm, integrating Kalman filtering with adaptive weighted fusion, is proposed to augment the accuracy and dependability of speed measurements. Through a meticulous comparative analysis of four speed measurement fusion algorithms based on their variance, the study identifies the most suitable algorithm for practical engineering applications in real projects. This work not only enhances the methodology of train speed measurement but also provides a foundation for future applications in similar non-contact measurement scenarios.

Performance of a Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) system in a fielded application depends on observability from existing monitoring equipment and sensing, which get determined at the design phase. Although various technologies have been proposed in the literature, there is currently a lack of known generic tools specifically designed for performing design stage sensor placement analyses from a PHM perspective. This leads to PHM observability being an afterthought and resulting PHM designs being sub-optimal. This paper describes a new Optimal sensor Placement (OSP) framework, its implementation as a toolkit and the experience with applying it to a new product design in the context of a Small Modular Reactor (SMR). The formulation adds multiple important features that are critical to PHM applications. Firstly, it establishes a direct link to PHM performance requirements with intent to reduce operational and maintenance costs. Moreover, it acknowledges and accounts for the costs and risks of errors that PHM system will incur, and simultaneously considers operational requirements on sensing for performance, control and/or regulatory requirements. The toolkit described here implements formulations of a large number of requirements scenarios applicable in a generic industrial product development setting. © 2023 Prognostics and Health Management Society.
