When developing an algorithm, data from sensors is often assumed to be perfect. However, sensors can fail, and a robustness function test alone may not be enough to convince customers to use a black-box in a critical durable system, because it doesn't take into account the impact of a wrong decision made by the black-box algorithm. A risk evaluation method has been proposed to assess the negative impact caused by sensor failure when using a black-box. The identification and quantification of sensor failures and risks are incorporated into the assessment process. This method has been proven useful through a case study of an access gate, where it was used to rank the importance of each sensor for the operator.

Integrating sensing in a soft robot is still crucial to enable feedback response to environmental stimuli. This paper presents a single-wire soft sensor for multimodal tactile sensing designed to address the limitations of current technologies. The sensor integrates a stimulus-responsive hydrogel with a unique design that enables spatial and force sensing by leveraging changes in electromagnetic resonance properties. With a simplified structure, the sensor is fabricated with minimal wiring, maintaining flexibility and adaptability for various robotic applications. Experimental results demonstrate high accuracy in detecting contact points (up to 98%) and applied forces (96%) and a combined detection accuracy of 87%. This approach allows for distributed sensing within the robot or using the whole body as a sensing element, enhancing the system’s responsiveness to environmental stimuli and supporting advanced applications in physical intelligence.

Posture identification system has been extensively useful in areas such as physical activities, ecological awareness events, man machine interfacing applications, control room panel monitoring systems and in autonomous old people caring systems. This paper describes a sensor based posture detection and guidance system while doing yoga exercise. In our day-to-day life, doing yoga exercise has become a well-known discipline, which helps people to be physically fit and have good mental health. Practicing yoga exercise is a recognized system for the human beings to improve their physical and mental activities. This practice helps in regulatory activities in an individual's mind, body and soul. As a result of this, flexibility, muscle power and body image will increase. The existing method has shown the recognition of posture analysis through virtual reality and exergame. We proposed a suit that is designed and implemented through a virtual master. The suit is integrated with various types of accelerometer sensors which are fixed on the flexible bands, that are light in weight and are used indirectly to measure the orientation of the limbs. Also the sensor integrated suit is very helpful to measure the direction of the tilt moment. Predefined calibrated values are loaded on to the microcontroller, which are compared with the measured values and when there is a match the information is sent to a mobile application. The mobile app identifies whether the user is doing the posture correctly or not based on the information given to practice the yoga exercise. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. The aim of the presented article is to design a high frequency 3db slinky power divider for RF sensor applications which operates at 6 GHz frequency. The material used for the design of proposed structure is FR4 material commonly used for PCB design. This material is identified to have medium refractive index in the order of 4.6 which ensures minimizes structure and compatible with the exciting systems. The purpose of the proposed power divider is to handle the power in RF sensor network to ensure optimal functioning at high frequency RF systems. The size and frequency handling ability of the power divider is confined to FR4 material due to the advantage of the compatibility of the available RF systems. The entire structure is mathematically analysed followed by numerical solving and fabrication. The design of novel 3db slinky power divider for RF sensor applications at high frequency which provides higher bandwidth that can be appreciated and recommended for real time wireless sensing networks. This work starts with the understanding of Electromagnetic fundamentals for RF system design and its parametric properties like Insertion Loss, Return Loss, current distribution, Near Field Crosstalk (NFC), Far Field Crosstalk (FEC), radiation pattern and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR). Literature survey on various power divider for real time applications are studied. The need for the power divider circuits in RF sensors are identified and proposed a 3dB slinky power divider. Numerical solving of the proposed structure is done using the simulator and the validation of obtained results with the previous finding are done. Proper material selection is done based on the industry used products. advanced Design System (ADS) is used for simulation and parametric study of the power divider. The insertion loss with frequency plot with resonant frequency of 8.912 GHz is presented along with the return loss verses frequency plot. The proposed power divider is covering the frequency

Acetone gas sensing finds application in several fields such as biomedical applications, food industry, chemical manufacturing and environmental monitoring. Often, such applications require good sensing performance and portability of the sensing devices. This paper proposes a conductometric gas sensor based on a thin-film of Nb2O5 able to detect acetone at the sub-ppm level with good selectivity and repeatability. The quite small dimensions and the low power consumption make the proposed sensor suitable for portable applications. © 2021 IEEE.

Over the recent years, several aquatic applications rely on promising networking techniques like the underwater acoustic sensor network (UWSN) for data exchange. UWSN exhibits certain challenges like high energy consumption, low bandwidth, and high latency while building network protocols. The UWSN routing issue is addressed in this paper by introducing a lifetime aware, energy efficient, adaptive, deep learning enabled software-defined radio-based routing protocol for underwater acoustic sensor networks. The network development risks are largely reduced and the flexibility is increased using a novel paradigm called Software-Defined Networking (SDN). Distribution of the sensor nodes and their residual energy helps in prolonging the network lifetime using generic MAC protocols. An adequate number of nodes are selected for forwarding the packets by calculating the reward function throughout the routing process while distributing the residual energy of each node among a group of nodes. A deep reinforcement learning algorithm is used for optimization of this routing protocol by reducing the throughput and delay. Network lifetime, latency, energy efficiency, and packet delivery rate of the proposed model is compared with the existing models. Simulation is performed on Aqua-sim platform. From the results of simulation, it is evident that the proposed model increases the network lifetime by 15% when compared to the conventional techniques. © 2022 IEEE.

Wearable textile antennas have more potential applications, due to the expanding use of wireless wearable communications in smart clothing systems. Specifically, the advanced wearable Internet of things (IoT's) devices led to mandate flexible antennas with better electrical and safety requirements. In this manuscript, a complete design of 2.45 GHz resonanted flexible antenna has been investigated and proposed for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) applications. The geometry of proposed antenna with partial ground of $55.02\ \text{mm}\times 55.86$ mm, substrate of $73.66\ \text{mm}\times 58.98\ \text{mm}$ and rectangular patch of $66.46\ \text{mm}\times 48.98\ \text{mm}$ has been employed. The defected ground structure (DGS) methodology with low dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_{\mathrm{r}}$) flexible substrate has been employed to enhance the performance parameters of proposed antenna. The defected ground plane & patch of the designed antenna is made up of Perfect Electric Conductor (PEC) with a thickness of 0.05 mm. In the given antenna design, denim is a textile material, used as substrate having dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_{\mathrm{r}}$) of 1.6 with thickness of 2.1 mm. The prototype antenna's performance has been evaluated in terms of input impedance, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), gain (dB), directivity (dBi). The wearable antenna has been resonated at 2.45 GHz frequency with gain and directivity of 5.47 dB and 7.96 dBi, respectively with minimal return loss of -53.18 dB. The proposed textile antenna has bandwidth of 80 MHz with input impedance of 50 ohms. The novelty of this work is miniature in size and flexibility with better outcomes than previous investigations. It's compact size and flexibility enable the structure to be easily integrated into wearable IoT devices such as rain coats, safety jackets, etcetera for health care, tracking, and rescue/search determinations.
