The field of mobile robotics has become increasingly significant in today's technology-driven world, with applications ranging from autonomous vehicles to automated delivery systems. This project aims to enhance the capabilities of mobile robots in navigating and exploring unfamiliar environments by developing and implementing a Reinforcement Learning (RL) model. The core objective is to enable these robots to autonomously explore, navigate, and adapt to new surroundings efficiently. By integrating the RL model into a mobile robot using the Robot Operating System (ROS), the project evaluates the system's efficiency through comprehensive ground experiments. The research compares the RL-based approach with established exploration methods, emphasizing the effectiveness of the Value Iteration algorithm, a dynamic programming algorithm for Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). Controlled experiments conducted in a 6×3 meter flat space with static obstacles and a 2D lidar sensor provide valuable insights into the RL model's performance and potential real-world applications. The findings highlight the advantages of the Value Iteration algorithm over traditional exploration methods, demonstrating its potential for improving autonomous robotic navigation and exploration.

Advancements in human-machine interaction, health monitoring, and robotics have led to increasing demand for reliable strain sensors. Of the various flexible sensors, piezo-transmittance strain sensors adjust their optical transmittance in response to strain and can overcome limitations seen in other sensor types. However, current piezo-transmittance strain sensors face challenges related to controllability and applicability, as well as constraints from bulky designs and complex wired connections. This paper reports a highly sensitive, reliable, and mechanically durable piezo-transmittance strain sensor that addresses these challenges. In addition, we propose a simple, wireless integrated sensor system that eliminates the need for bulky and complex wiring, offering a practical solution for human motion detection applications.

The Internet of Things (IoT) system improves existing healthcare systems and their data. Specifically, the patient's sensitive data may be eavesdropped and linked to the identities of the sensors in transmission and thus revealing the patient's medical conditions. Therefore, in the such resource-impoverished environment, anonymous authentication for sensor nodes while considering their stringent resource constraints is a paramount security concern. In order to ensure security services and safeguard private customer data in the healthcare industry, this study proposes a new idea known as a secure anonymous authentication protocol with advanced encryption standards (SAAPAES). Nowadays, Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), particularly drones, play a pivotal role in environmental research. Scientists depend on these platforms to monitor various sensor data and ensure comprehensive data archiving. However, despite their advantages, researchers encounter several challenges, including communication limitations and the complexity of setting up systems tailored to their needs. To address these issues, we propose MoDD, a model-driven data collection framework based on a customized publish/subscribe model. MoDD simplifies the development and configuration of data collection systems. It offers scientists a solution that meets their specific needs, allowing them to focus on high-level requirements while the framework manages the underlying complexities. We demonstrate the effectiveness of MoDD through practical evaluations on an actual Unmanned Surface Vehicle. Additionally, results show a 79% reduction in throughput (drone to base station link) compared to existing publish/subscribe systems.

The present paper presents the current achievements of a joint, multidisciplinary research group in developing a set of smart chemoresistive sensors. Based on the experience gathered in developing and testing relative humidity and alcohol chemoresistive sensors, our main objective is developing a series of chemoresistive smart sensors, that could be manufactured employing standard CMOS tools, in conjunction with the direct, inkjet printing like techniques. The results presented here focus on the optimization of nanocrystalline CVD based graphene layers, through exposure to different fluorine based plasmas and the structural changes induced and with relevance for their further use as chemoresistve sensors. © 2023 IEEE.

This research paper introduces a groundbreaking 3D object 360 motion detection system that employs radiation-based active motion detectors. These sophisticated detectors emit electromagnetic waves and meticulously measure the energy differentials pre and post-reflection to discern motion. The system further harnesses the power of wavelet representation for object recognition amidst crowded scenes, harnessing the prowess of dimensionality reduction and support vector machines for efficient and effective learning. Additionally, the paper explores advanced shape detection techniques, encompassing cutting-edge edge detection and precise geometric parameter estimation. It delves into the efficacy of frame subtraction and background subtraction as highly adaptable motion detection methodologies. The study also sheds light on the merits and demerits of diverse motion detection technologies, encompassing infrared sensors, video motion detection, thermal imaging cameras, and radar systems. Nowadays with globalization and digitalization, many companies change their business process from conventional business to digital-based business. It’s the same with the parking system in Indonesia, by taking the advantage of advanced technology to create a better parking system, a smart parking system can be implemented in Indonesia. To be specific by using the Internet of Things or IoT, a sensor system, and developing an application that can be accessed and used by the driver as a user to make a reservation of parking space. Came along with that problem, the existence of "My Parking" can be the problem solver, and with the My Parking innovation as an application to implement a smart parking system in Indonesia, it is hoped that it can help both the community and the government in building a smart city in Indonesia which will lead Indonesia to become a developed country. A tightly coupled multi-sensor SLAM algorithm based on feature planes in indoor scenes is proposed for laser SLAM algorithms in indoor environments affected by glass and mirrors and with few feature points. Firstly, the odometry motion estimation is performed by fusing inertial guidance, and the key frames are judged by the positional transformation. Secondly, the key frames are extracted based on RANSAC, matched with the data in the feature plane manager, and then the data are merged and expanded. Finally, the LIDAR data information, inertial guidance information and feature plane information are put into the sliding window optimizer and solved by nonlinear optimization to obtain the optimal poses and maps. To verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, experiments are conducted in real indoor scenes and detailed comparisons are made on the optimization time and localization accuracy. The experimental results show that this method achieves better positional estimation accuracy and shows good robustness and real-time performance compared with current advanced laser SLAM methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Future conflicts involving Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO) will require an unprecedented scale of standoff targeting against hardened, mobile, and dynamic targets that will only be possible through effective use of sensing, command and control (C2), and targeting assets across multi-domain (space/air/ground/sea) kill chains. Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy are critical to enabling effective, scalable, and timely kill chains, but only if applied appropriately to address kill chain limitations, informed by quantitative system of systems modeling and simulation at the data level. To address these challenges, BAE systems is developing a Virtual System of systems Testbed to enable detailed quantitative mission level analysis of kill chain performance in a variety of multi-domain scenarios, combining high fidelity platform and sensor simulation with detailed modeling of information flows through the kill chain. The Testbed uses Bohemia Interactive Simulation's Virtual Battlespace 4 (VBS4) to model virtual physical entities, and uses the VBS4 Simulation SDK to pass dynamic scenario data messages for real-time processing by advanced algorithm plug-ins including AI-based information dissemination and Autonomous mission management. In this paper, we will describe the challenges posed by JADO and the critical importance of system of system analysis to inform the application of advanced algorithmic technologies. We discuss the rationale and architecture of the Virtual System of systems testbed, the technologies incorporated, and the methodologies for system of systems analysis. We will present results assessing system of systems contribution of these technologies to improving mission-level metrics such as latency, scalability, and robustness of kill chain response.
