The usage of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks in Internet of Things (IoT) applications, such as healthcare gives it several advantages such as resilience to network disrupts and better coverage. However, mesh networks are prone to complex attacks, comprising multiple individual attacks like Denial of Service (DoS), Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) and so on. These are referred to as multi-stage attacks that can drastically deteriorate the network's performance. The need to detect such attacks has been well investigated and several Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) for detecting and mitigating attacks in mesh networks have been developed. However, the deployment of IDS for monitoring intrusions is costly in terms of computations and the power required. Hence, achieving the maximum probability of intrusion detection through strategic placement for a given limited number of IDS is the challenge. In this paper, Machine Learning (ML)-based analysis is proposed to determine the suitable positions for the IDS on relay nodes of the BLE mesh network. In comparison to the graph theoretical methodology proposed in the prior art, the approach discussed in this paper considers practical aspects, such as the network topology, underlying routing protocol, routing path of the application and variation in the traffic metrics with and without attack. © 2023 ACM.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the effective management of liquid levels in industrial settings is crucial for ensuring operational safety, productivity, and resource conservation. The water level control problem is a common issue in the industry, which has been thoroughly examined in various studies. This paper specifically concentrates on developing and executing a water level control system based on a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The paper has one main goal designing the PLC- based control model for tank level control for a couple of tank systems. This paper is centered on the deployment of a MIMO as well as SISO liquid level monitoring system utilizing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) technologies to develop a sophisticated control system that can accurately measure and regulate liquid levels in tanks or containers. sensors are utilized to collect precise level data, which is then processed by the PLC to activate control mechanisms. PLC can provide a user-easy control interface.

Today's stormwater systems are not designed for the adverse effects of climate change and deep urbanization. These effects can increase the magnitude of floods and cause significant damages and fatalities. A typical solution for flood control in urban areas is the implementation of stormwater reservoirs. These reservoirs typically require space which can be very costly in densely populated cities. In contrast to this investment-heavy solution, retrofitting current systems with advanced flow sensors and controllers (i.e., orifice valves and variable speed pumps) can provide alternatives to flood management by allowing optimal, real-time control. In this paper, we investigate the performance of controlled and uncontrolled stormwater reservoirs against combined Scenarios of urbanization and climate change. To this end, we develop a novel state-space, dynamic model representing watersheds, reservoirs, and one-dimensional channels hydrodynamic processes. We also develop a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm to optimally determine valve operations in stormwater reservoirs, by focusing on decreasing the flood effects in downstream channels. Results reveal that MPC yields significantly better flood control, compared to passive, model-unaware control strategies. The results illustrate the need for more modeldriven control algorithms for climate change-aware control of stormwater systems.

The increasing incidence of vehicle-animal collisions poses significant risks to both human and wildlife safety. To address this challenge, the implementation of IoT (Internet of Things) sensor networks for wild-animal detection near roads offers a promising solution. This paper explores the design and deployment of an IoT-based system aimed at detecting the presence of wild animals near roadways, thereby enhancing road safety and wildlife conservation. The proposed system utilizes a network of infrared (IR) sensors, motion detectors, and cameras strategically placed along road sections prone to wildlife crossings. These sensors continuously monitor the area, and upon detecting an animal, they transmit real-time data to a central processing unit via wireless communication protocols. The system then processes this data to generate immediate alerts for drivers through connected road signs or mobile applications, warning them of potential hazards ahead. Additionally, the collected data is stored and analyzed to understand animal movement patterns, which aids in making informed decisions about further preventive measures and the placement of wildlife crossings. The incorporation of machine learning algorithms improves the system’s precision in distinguishing between different types of animals and minimizing false alarms. This IoT sensor network not only mitigates the risk of accidents but also contributes to the conservation of wildlife by preventing unnecessary fatalities. This project explores the use of Genetic Algorithms (GA) to optimize a detection system that can identify wild animals near roadsides. The paper summarize with a discussion on the effectiveness of the system, potential challenges in implementation, and outlines future pathways for research and innovation in this domain.

With the development of new wearable technologies, the use of exoskeletons is gradually gaining ground in the world's advanced militaries. The aim of this paper is to explore the current status of exoskeletons and describe the requirements of exoskeletons for military use towards the specifics of use. The most important movement of a soldier in the field is walking, and therefore the analysis of the current state will focus primarily on lower limb exoskeletons and their subsystems. The paper will compare active and passive lower limb exoskeletons and their use in military practice. Subsequently, the requirements for individual subsystems of the mechatronic system of the exoskeleton will be specified. sensor subsystems, actuator subsystems, control subsystems and man-machine interface will be described. Recommendations for further analysis and use of exoskeletons in the military can thus contribute not only to increased performance but also to the safety of the users themselves - individual soldiers.

In this paper we present four new algorithms for solving Minimum Base Problem (MBP) which is known to be NP-complete. The problem arises in wide or dense sensor networks in which a huge number of sensors provides a highly redundant source of information and should be reduced for further processing. In many cases a proper selection of nonredundant subset of the set of all sensors is reasonable both from economical point of view and the computational complexity of processing vast input data by software or hardware. Both exact and approximate algorithms are to be developed and applied for this task. In addition a hybrid metaheuristic shown.

To achieve portable, low-cost, long-term, and precise muscle activities monitoring for applications such as clinical rehabilitation and athletic training, we built a wearable sensing system that integrated high-sensitivity iontronic-FMG sensor and sEMG electrodes, which allowed us to gain a deeper insight into the bioelectrical activity and mechanical behavior of muscles. In order to verify the effectiveness of the system and explore the physiological mechanism of the FMG & sEMG fusion, we conducted a muscle strength test by using an ultrasound image as a clinical standard. The results revealed the correlation between FMG signal amplitude and muscle mechanical characteristics. Furthermore, muscle strength could be predicted accurately.

The advanced Accelerator Diagnostics collaboration has been developing diamond-sensor based high bandwidth position-sensitive diagnostics for application at next generation XFELs and other accelerator facilities. A pass-through diagnostic with 50 MHz rate capability has demonstrated pulse-by-pulse position sensitivity of 1% of delivered beam width. Progress has been made in upgrading this diagnostic approach to multi-GHz operation, involving an integrated detection system design making use of a compact signal path and proximate high-bandwidth readout ASIC. Preliminary results are presented on the performance of both the signal path and ASIC. Possible additional applications, including precision event timing and plasma ignition diagnosis, are introduced. © 2024 International Beam Instrumentation conference. All Rights Reserved.
