With the growth of self-driving technologies, the reliability analysis of automated driving systems has received considerable attention from both academia and industry. Safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF) serves as one of the primary standards to assure the reliability and safety of the automated driving system. One of its key issues is the performance limitations of perception sensor systems. Generally, the reliability of the perception sensor system depends on the different scenarios of the driving environment. In this work, we investigate the sensor features and dependencies of the front camera and the top LiDAR of the nuTonomy scenes (nuScenes) dataset with respect to scenarios (e.g., rain and night) and distance information (e.g., two distance-based regions of interest). In addition, we apply the obtained parameters to a proven analytical reliability model to examine the impact of scenario and distance information on the reliability assessment.

Landslides pose a severe threat to mountainous regions, often resulting in catastrophic damage and loss of life. Existing prediction methods rely on limited data sources and infrequent monitoring, leading to delays in early warnings. Previous technologies have explored individual sensor applications, such as Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) and seismic sensors, but lack a comprehensive multi-sensor approach with real-time processing. Notable cases, like the Wayanad landslides in Kerala, India, highlight the urgent need for advanced predictive systems. This study proposes an AI-driven landslide prediction system using a network of 40 sensor-equipped slave kits. Each kit integrates GPR, seismic, Electromagnetic Induction (EMI), ultrasonic, LiDAR, capacitance probes, gravimeters, Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), and magnetometers onto a Teensy 4.1 microcontroller with an ESP8266 for wireless data transmission. Data is processed at a central master unit featuring a Jetson Nano module, employing the ALEXNET+BILSTM model for real-time analysis of soil stability and landslide risk. By leveraging edge computing, this system enables rapid decision-making and early warnings, addressing the limitations of existing methods. Its scalable, cost-effective architecture enhances environmental monitoring, offering a robust solution for landslide-prone communities and significantly improving disaster preparedness.

Several medium voltage power electronic applications, ranging from motor drives to circuit breakers, require low-cost, high-bandwidth, high-precision, lossless and isolated current sensors capable of measuring both dc and ac currents. In this paper, a compact, contactless current sensor based on a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) closed-loop anisomagnetoresistor (AMR) chip is proposed as a solution for the above applications. A special V-shaped busbar serves as the primary conductor to improve stray field immunity. The sensor design utilizes a low-profile, stacked assembly wherein the signal conditioning stage digitizes the AMR chip's analog output for transmission back to the controller via optical fiber for extremely high isolation voltage and common mode impedance. A resonant current bus is used to provide isolated power to the sensor circuits. The designed prototype is easily scaled to handle higher currents due the modular plug-and-play architecture. Experimental results of the designed sensor in a MV circuit breaker are provided to demonstrate a maximum accuracy error of < 0.25%, an overcurrent detection time of < 60 ns and successful scalability property without channel cross-talk.

World models learn behaviors in a latent imagination space to enhance the sample-efficiency of deep reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms. While learning world models for high-dimensional observations (e.g., pixel inputs) has become practicable on standard RL benchmarks and some games, their effectiveness in real-world robotics applications has not been explored. In this paper, we investigate how such agents generalize to real-world autonomous vehicle control tasks, where advanced model-free deep RL algorithms fail. In particular, we set up a series of time-lap tasks for an F1TENTH racing robot, equipped with a high-dimensional LiDAR sensor, on a set of test tracks with a gradual increase in their complexity. In this continuous-control setting, we show that model-based agents capable of learning in imagination substantially outperform model-free agents with respect to performance, sample efficiency, successful task completion, and generalization. Moreover, we show that the generalization ability of model-based agents strongly depends on the choice of their observation model. We provide extensive empirical evidence for the effectiveness of world models provided with long enough memory horizons in sim2real tasks.

This study compares machine learning frameworks for detecting and classifying gas mixtures of ammonia, acetone, and formaldehyde using L-Ascorbic acid-reduced graphene oxide (LAA-rGO) in a Field Effect Transistor (FET) sensor optimized by gate voltage. As real-time gas monitoring becomes essential in environmental, health and industrial applications. This research addresses the identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) linked to chronic kidney disease, lung cancer, and diabetes. The framework leverages the enhanced properties of LAA-rGO to improve sensor sensitivity and selectivity, employing algorithms like Support Vector Machines (SVM), Naïve Bayes (NB), and Decision Tree (DT). The DT demonstrating the highest accuracy. Experimental validation confirms the framework's effectiveness in differentiating similar gases overcoming challenges like cross-sensitivity and non-linearity. Results indicate that integrating LAA-rGO with machine learning significantly boosts detection accuracy and response times, paving the way for future applications in real-time monitoring and emphasizing the benefits of combining advanced materials with data analysis for enhanced health safety and quality control.

Thermal properties of refractory nanocomposites with embedded single-walled carbon nanotubes were investigated using proposed automated approach. In this approach, differences in nanocomposites with varying parameters, observed under temperature differentials and thermal loads, are highlighted. These findings are crucial for their integration into sensor systems and for applications requiring enhanced fire resistance. The results indicate that nanocomposites with a nanotube dispersion time of 2 hours exhibit a peak temperature difference of 55 “C, while those with a 1-hour dispersion time show a maximum difference of 50 °C. A comparative analysis of heat transfer dynamics suggests that extending the dispersion time by 1 hour increases fire resistance by 15%.

In this day of advanced technology, where long customer wait times are often caused by tedious and time-consuming purchasing procedures in retail places, the concept of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart shopping cart is offered. One innovative cart integrates RFID sensors, an Arduino microcontroller, a Bluetooth module, and a mobile application. Every product has an RFID tag attached to it, which allows an RFID reader to efficiently and rapidly retrieve product data. The RFID sensors use wireless connection. Customers can then effortlessly manage their shopping list according to preferences with this information shown in a mobile application. After that, the server receives the wireless transmission of the shopping data, and billing is generated automatically. This IoT -based Smart Shopping Cart's main goal is to expedite the shopping process, especially on weekends and during periods of high customer traffic when long lines and subpar service may result. The purpose of this proposed system is to do away with the problems that come with conventional barcode-based invoicing systems by utilizing RFID technology and mobile applications. This model's viability and usefulness are emphasized, highlighting the fact that it can be put to use and evaluated in real-world settings on a commercial scale. When compared to other available options, the suggested approach sticks out as a more effective and competitive solution. It basically tackles the issues of lengthy shopping trips and poor service, which makes it a potential development for the retail industry going forward.

BGP route leak represents a significant vulnerability in BGP security. The occurrence of BGP route leak can lead to increased internet latency and diminished service quality in less severe cases, and in more severe instances, it can result in large-scale regional outages or substantial traffic redirection, causing considerable financial losses to network operators and users. Thus, the ability to accurately and promptly identify route leak is of paramount importance for maintaining internet security. Current route leak detection methods typically involve a trade-off between accuracy and real-time performance, making it challenging to achieve both simultaneously. To address this issue, this paper proposes the Leak-Detector framework, which synthesizes the strengths of existing advanced methodologies. By integrating AS hegemony indicators with machine learning models, Leak-Detector provides accurate and real-time detection of route leak incidents, and it can precisely report both the suspects and the timing of the leak. Application of Leak-Detector to real-world route leak detection demonstrates that it achieves an accuracy of 85%, recall of 84%, and F1 score of 83%, with minimal detection latency. Furthermore, it accurately identifies most route leak suspects and their occurrence times.

Improved scene perception makes the safe driving of automotive vehicles (AVs) feasible. The most common automotive sensors for AV perception for detection, classification, a nd t racking a re t he Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR), radar, and camera sensors. The most reliable sensors for determining range are LiDAR and radar. In this research, we consider the referencing from the camera-based object recognition to fuse the LiDAR and radar point cloud data. To minimize any unintended effects from sensor orientation and sampling time, all three sensors are installed, calibrated, and time-aligned for this experiment. Subsequently, the obtained camera sensor data is subjected to object detection using a MobileNet-based deep neural network (DNN). The radar and LiDAR point cloud data are projected with the two-dimensional bounding box width, length, and height used for object recognition. Following that, the range information from the radar and LiDAR is retrieved and combined using a weighted average fusion algorithm. This experiment is run on the ROS platform, using AWR1642 radar sensor and RealSense LiDAR camera L515 sensor. The object detection from the camera and conducting fusion on the radar and LiDAR sensor is a potential algorithm for the advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) emergency brake assistant (EBA) function.

The rapid urbanization and increasing structural complexities of modern buildings have heightened the need for advanced monitoring systems to ensure building safety. The research presents an AI-powered IoT framework that enhances building safety through advanced stability detection mechanisms. The proposed framework employs a novel algorithm, Ensemble Learning with IoT sensor Data Aggregation (EnIoT-SDA), which integrates ensemble learning techniques with aggregated sensor data to provide accurate and real-time stability assessments of building structures. The effectiveness of EnIoT-SDA was evaluated through a comprehensive simulation analysis, comparing its performance against existing algorithms, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), and Fuzzy Logic systems (FLS). Simulation metrics, such as accuracy, false positive rate, computational time, and detection latency, were used to assess and compare the algorithms' performance. The results demonstrated that EnIoT-SDA outperformed the existing methods in several key areas, offering improved accuracy and reduced detection latency, thus establishing its potential as a robust solution for building safety monitoring. The study underscores the significant advancements brought by integrating ensemble learning with IoT sensor data and highlights areas for future research and development in this domain.
