An evidential sensory fusion using 2D feature and 3D shape information method is proposed to recognize the occluded object. For the applications of robotic object fetching, the conventional object recognition methods usually applied the algorithms separately from 2D texture matching or 3D shape fitting. It often causes the wrong recognition results when the objects are occluded. The motivation in this study is to enhance the occluded object recognition via the estimate fusion method from the RGB-D sensor, which provides both 2D image and 3D depth information. To associate the 3D shape with the 2D texture, the region of interest (ROI) is firstly captured in 3D coordinate system, and mapped onto the 2D image. The Dempster-Shafer (DS) evidence theory is applied to fuse the confidences from the recognitions of both 2D texture and 3D shape to increase the recognition rate of occluded objects. The experimental results successfully demonstrate that the proposed evidence fusion recognizes the sample object correctly where it usually has the lower confidences from 2D and 3D recognition algorithms alone, when it operates in a separate fashion. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper delves into the medium-low speed maglev transit system, presenting a novel urban railway mode that forgoes conventional axle-based sensors such as speed odometers due to its maglev propulsion characteristics. The research introduces eddy current sensors as a viable alternative for speed measurement, leveraging their non-contact nature and immunity to mechanical wear and environmental constraints. A sophisticated sensor information fusion algorithm, integrating Kalman filtering with adaptive weighted fusion, is proposed to augment the accuracy and dependability of speed measurements. Through a meticulous comparative analysis of four speed measurement fusion algorithms based on their variance, the study identifies the most suitable algorithm for practical engineering applications in real projects. This work not only enhances the methodology of train speed measurement but also provides a foundation for future applications in similar non-contact measurement scenarios.

Performance of a Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) system in a fielded application depends on observability from existing monitoring equipment and sensing, which get determined at the design phase. Although various technologies have been proposed in the literature, there is currently a lack of known generic tools specifically designed for performing design stage sensor placement analyses from a PHM perspective. This leads to PHM observability being an afterthought and resulting PHM designs being sub-optimal. This paper describes a new Optimal sensor Placement (OSP) framework, its implementation as a toolkit and the experience with applying it to a new product design in the context of a Small Modular Reactor (SMR). The formulation adds multiple important features that are critical to PHM applications. Firstly, it establishes a direct link to PHM performance requirements with intent to reduce operational and maintenance costs. Moreover, it acknowledges and accounts for the costs and risks of errors that PHM system will incur, and simultaneously considers operational requirements on sensing for performance, control and/or regulatory requirements. The toolkit described here implements formulations of a large number of requirements scenarios applicable in a generic industrial product development setting. © 2023 Prognostics and Health Management Society. As civilization as a whole, the manufacturing sector, and energy consumption keeps expanding, it is vital to keep developing advanced, automated monitoring applications and instruments that will enhance the accuracy of environmental monitoring data as well as the efficiency of the ecological tracking system. Solutions for environmental monitoring have evolved into SEM systems that now include contemporary sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT technology, facilitated by wireless sensor networks and IoT devices, expedites environmental monitoring by enabling efficient real-time data collection, aggregation, and transmission. However, there is a possibility of outliers called anomalies, which comprise noisy data because of random errors. These anomalies are because of sensor malfunctioning, hardware error, power supply error, ambient environmental change, abnormal weather phenomena, etc. As anomaly detection deals with reducing the errors in data, humans cannot do this on their own, hence automation is essential, which can be done using machine learning algorithms. Current algorithms give better accuracy with univariate data distributions, but in multivariate distributions, they don't work that well. There aren't any high-accuracy algorithms for data with complex anomalies which are often observed in the real world, which gives a further scope for detection of anomalies. This work aims to identify anomaly detection algorithms that can provide better accuracy for multivariate distributions. By putting in our knowledge of sensors working better anomaly detection is possible. As a result, it is feasible to more effectively balance the efficiency and precision of anomaly detection in large data sets containing elevated dimensionality problems. © 2023 IEEE.

Microfluidic devices are widely used in labs-on-a-chip design, bioengineering, biophysics, medicine, and pharmacology. Therefore, the study of liquid or multiphase system dynamics in microchannels of complex structures is of great importance for different fields of science and industry, for instance, in microfluidic device construction. This work is devoted to the three-dimensional simulation of a single deformable droplet moving in a microchannel with hydrodynamic traps. The numerical approach is based on the accelerated Boundary Element Method (BEM). This method is widely used for solving three-dimensional problems in domains with complex geometry. We considered the dynamics of a viscous fluid with and without droplets in a rectangular microchannel with two configurations of the hydrodynamic traps. The most compelling case for practical applications was revealed from the analysis of the velocity field and velocities of the droplet mass centers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In order to maintain safe and secure driving, it is very important to correctly and quickly identify the road state on any time any locations. In this paper, we introduce a new road state viewing system using multiple on-board environmental sensors in winter season. The sensor data are processed by on-board edge computer to decide and show the road state in realtime. We build a prototype system and test the actual winter road to evaluate the accuracy and performance. This paper outlines the development of an economical Internet of Things (IoT)-based real-time health monitoring system. The prototype integrates a microcontroller and various sensors to monitor essential health parameters, including temper-ature, heart rate (HR), electrocardiogram (ECG), blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and blood pressure (BP). With a focus on enhancing the accessibility of sensor data, diverse access options were implemented using advanced technical methodologies. The collected sensor data was efficiently stored, uploaded to the cloud, and visualized through tools such as HTML, Blynk, PAX-DAQ, and PuTTY, enabling seamless access via mobile devices or laptops. The paper concludes with the presentation of measurement results and an initial analysis of the sensor data, affirming the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

As a hot issue in social network analysis, information diffusion has received more and more attention. But there were some problems in information diffusion, such as the traditional information transmission model cannot meet the increasing application requirement and simulate the multi-source real social network. Therefore, a new thermodynamic model Heat Transfer (HT) is extended to Multiplex Network and Multi-Source Heat Transfer (MNMS-HT) model in this paper. Firstly, the temperature attribute of nodes is introduced, and the propagation node and the spectator node are defined based on the physical characteristics of heat transfer. Secondly, the nodes in the online social network are described as heat receivers and disseminators, and the HT model is used to define the information transmission process of diffusion heat and receiving heat. Thirdly, combining with multiplex networks, MNMS-HT model simulated the diffusion process of multi-source information on social networks, and two information relations of competition and cooperation are proposed. The process of multi-source information transmission and parameter selection are discussed in detail. Finally, by using Barabasi-Albert (BA) networks and real networks, the simulation results show that:(I) the larger the information intensity gap in the competitive relationship, the lower the number of peak nodes of the weak party information;(II) The higher the probability of inter-layer transmission is, the faster the information diffusion process converges in the competitive relationship;(iii) The information dissemination process in cooperative relationship converges faster than that in competitive relationship. © 2021 IEEE.

In this work, the energy harvesting system on chip ground bounce monitoring is addressed, by designing and comparing three ground bounce sensors. Special focus is given in compact sensors implementations, and in particular in the bulk driven MOSFET sensor, in the source follower - transconductor (SF+Gm) and in the DC coupled one. The sensors gain-bandwidth performance trade-off is addressed and all three are designed in an RFCMOS process. Their performance is demonstrated by advanced simulations results, taking into account temperature and process variations, and providing all related metrics from gain/bandwidth to linearity, power consumption and silicon active area. Selection criteria are extracted since each of these sensors is optimum to be used in different applications versus specific performance metrics.
