In this paper, we consider the problem of minimum-time optimal control for a dynamical system with initial state uncertainties and propose a sequential convex programming (SCP) solution framework. We seek to minimize the expected terminal (mission) time, which is an essential capability for planetary exploration missions where ground rovers have to carry out scientific tasks efficiently within the mission timelines in uncertain environments. Our main contribution is to convert the underlying stochastic optimal control problem into a deterministic, numerically tractable, optimal control problem. To this end, the proposed solution framework combines two strategies from previous methods: i) a partial model predictive control with consensus horizon approach and ii) a sum-of-norm cost, a temporally strictly increasing weighted-norm, promoting minimum-time trajectories. Our contribution is to adopt these formulations into an SCP solution framework and obtain a numerically tractable stochastic control algorithm. We then demonstrate the resulting control method in multiple applications: i) a closed-loop linear system as a representative result (a spacecraft double integrator model), ii) an open-loop linear system (the same model), and then iii) a nonlinear system (Dubin's car). © 2024 IEEE.

Next Generation wireless systems should be equipped with a wideband filters that can handle wideband signals of different communication standards. In case of cognitive wireless systems, it should be a reconfigurable/tunable multiband filter so that it can sense the different parts of radio spectrum for opportunistic usage. In this work, a reconfigurable quad-band bandpass filters based on lumped element topology is presented. The approach allows passband bandwidth to be reconfigured. The filter exhibits narrower and wider states. Each state has good selectivity as it features multiple transmission zeros, the advantage is that reactance transformed based filters increases the number of transmission zeros. Each band on each state keep the same center frequency with reconfigurable bandwidth. The reconfigurable quad-band filter exhibit a wider stop-band bandwidth for all bands.

The increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and forest fires, necessitate the development of advanced early warning systems. Current disaster prediction systems are hampered by limitations in sensor technology, which is often expensive and primarily effective for large-scale disasters. This project aims to enhance disaster prediction accuracy and timeliness by utilizing real-time data and advanced machine learning algorithms, including XGBoost, Voting classifier, and Random Forest classifier. Additionally, recognizing the long-term health impacts of poor air quality, the project extends its scope to predict the Air Quality Index (AQI). The project seeks to enable proactive risk management and effective disaster response by integrating real-time environmental data and machine learning models. We aim to improve proactive risk management and disaster response by employing real-time data. The outcomes of this project promise significant advancements in disaster preparedness, ultimately safeguarding human lives and infrastructure.

In recent years wireless sensor networks have helped with automation in many industry domains. Wireless technology cuts cable costs, deployment time and information to transfer and process from source to destination. To make good intelligent and highly automated systems, sensors are crucial. They make it possible to detect, analyze, measure, and process a variety of alterations that occur in industrial equipment’s location, length, height, appearance, displacement, etc. This paper described the industrial standardization of different WSN protocols like Zig-Bee, Wireless HART, UWB, IETF 6LowPAN, ISA100, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The work represented a few applications of WSNs in industry and its implementation challenges like safety, security, and availability. The work collected the energy consumption data of different home appliances. We applied the LightGBM machine learning algorithm to find a better energy consumption and prediction result.

Lifelong development allows animals and machines to adapt to changes in the environment as well as in their own systems, such as wear and tear in sensors and actuators. An important use case of such adaptation is industrial odor-sensing. Metal-oxide-based sensors can be used to detect gaseous compounds in the air; however, the gases interact with the sensors, causing their responses to change over time in a process called sensor drift. sensor drift is irreversible and requires frequent recalibration with additional data. This paper demonstrates that an adaptive system that represents the drift as context for the skill of odor sensing achieves the same goal automatically. After it is trained on the history of changes, a neural network predicts future contexts, allowing the context+skill sensing system to adapt to sensor drift. Evaluated on an industrial dataset of gas-sensor drift, the approach performed better than standard drift-naive and ensembling methods. In this way, the context+skill system emulates the natural ability of animal olfaction systems to adapt to a changing world, and demonstrates how it can be effective in real-world applications.

This work reports a focused antenna array that could allow for an accurate interrogation of passive sensors. In recent years, some passive sensors have been proposed [1, 2], however there are often problems reading these sensors due to interference with the surrounding environment. The proposed idea is therefore to focus the beam exclusively on the sensor. The reading system is formed by two cross-polarized near-field arrays which are able to concentrate the radiated fields in the area occupied by the sensor under test thus avoiding scattering from nearby objects with a consequent reduction of clutter. The proposed NF focused array is composed of 16x16 elements and it works around 20 GHz (λ equal to 15 mm). The array has a layered structure. There are two dielectric substrates (Itera MT40 material), the lower substrate has a thickness of 0.254 mm and the upper one 0.762 mm. The feeding network, which represents the bottom of the structure, is created on the first substrate. On the top of this substrate there is a perforated metal surface. Metallic rectangular patches are made on the top of the second substrate. Vias cross the entire structure to connect the feeding network with the patches.

The aim of the paper is to obtain new byproducts based on surfactants (gemini – polymethylene-α, ω-bis (N, N-dialkyl-N-deoxy-d-glucitolammonium iodides or bolaform – demecarium bromide) and protein hydrolysates (keratin and collagen) with micro and macro nutrients for applications in agriculture. A method was developed to include micro and macronutrients in keratin and collagen hydrolysates, in order to obtain new byproducts-bioemulsions (stable because of surfactants), with final goal of application as a new class of root fertilizers for cereals (e.g., corn). The newly obtained byproducts (bioemulsions based on surfactants) were characterized by: dynamic light scattering measurements, contact angle, optical microscopy and microbiological tests against fungal attack of Fusarium spp. and Botrytis cinerea. Better results were obtained for Gemini surfactant based on sugar – polymethylene-α, ω-bis (N, N-dialkyl-N-deoxy-d-glucitolammonium iodides) due to the properties such as: biodegradability, nontoxicity and adherence to surfaces. The new fertilizer created in this research – bioemulsions based on surfactants, can support the general structure of the grains as well as the chlorophyll content, increasing the growth yield. The fertilizer is indicated for any type of crops and soils, with recommended use as additional fertilizer for plants (cereals) in the vegetation and growth phases, with a maximum need for nutrients. © 2022 Toate drepturile asupra acestei ediţii sunt rezervate editorilor.

Accurate characterisation of magnetic sensors is required across a range of industrial applications. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), as the UK's National Metrology Institute (NMI), maintains and disseminates measurement standards, with traceability to SI units, that provides characterisation of advanced magnetic sensors from nT-level to several T. Space missions can benefit from the increasing sensitivity and accuracy of magnetic sensors. To calibrate such sensors, a low magnetic noise environment and traceable measurement systems must be established. Both spacecraft design and in-flight operation must rigorously incorporate magnetic cleanliness and compensate for field fluctuations. To reduce measurement uncertainties and dependent sensor error budgets, a greater understanding of the magnetic environment becomes crucial. This presentation will describe the development of traceable measurements systems at NPL that enable the characterisation of these sensors at the nT level for space applications. These systems allow key parameters, such as gain, linearity, offset and noise to be determined, with specific attention given to the measurement of the temperature dependance of these key parameters, and recent developments for the orthogonality of small magnetometers in a fast and cost-efficient way.

The use of sensor nodes in heterogeneous networks marks a significant progress in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), hence enhancing the adaptability and efficiency of the networks in various applications. This approach combines several sensor nodes into one network to offer thorough and strong data collecting. Every node has unique power needs, communication methods, and set of capabilities. Among the several significant applications—such as in smart cities, industrial automation, environmental monitoring, and healthcare—the main advantages are enhanced data accuracy, error resilience, and situational adaptation to new conditions. The areas of worry include assuring perfect compatibility, effective energy management, and safe data transport. Future research and development activities based on advanced technologies such 5G, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will mostly focus on enhancing the efficiency and efficacy of network deployment and operation. This will enable intelligent decision-making and real-time monitoring in environments limited resources.
