Soft and flexible capacitive tactile sensors have become important tools for precise force measurement in wearable health monitors, soft robotics, and advanced human-machine interaction systems. Their real-time ability to detect and quantify forces opens new boundaries in medical diagnostics, automation safety, and adaptive technologies. This work presents a 4×4 capacitive sensor matrix fabricated using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) substrates and nanoparticle-based silver ink, with a 300 μm Ecoflex 30 dielectric layer to ensure high sensitivity and reliability. The matrix integrates passive electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding to enhance signal integrity while maintaining robust force detection. The system employs a mutual capacitance sensing board (MUCA) for data acquisition and an SHT30 sensor for monitoring environmental parameters like temperature and humidity. Real-time data processing and visualization are achieved via a lightweight Wi-Fi-enabled dashboard hosted on an Arduino Nano 33 IoT microcontroller. This dashboard dynamically displays force distributions, heatmaps, and environmental metrics, offering an intuitive user interface. The sensor matrix demonstrates a force detection range of 1 to 16 N, with a strong linear correlation (R2 = 0.9952) between force and mutual capacitance changes, validated through extensive single and multi-touch testing using a universal manipulator. The system's battery-efficient design enables continuous operation for over 148 hours, making it suitable for remote and autonomous applications. Potential applications span wearable prosthetics, soft robotics, and IoT-driven systems. This work highlights the integration of scalable fabrication, robust signal processing, and real-time visualization to offer a versatile and energy-efficient tactile sensing solution.

The On-Board Computer on any satellite can malfunction due to the usage of the latest high-density memory components which are likely to get multiple bit errors when exposed to increased cosmic radiation in space. Hence, a suitable multibit Error Detection and Correction (EDAC) unit is required. In this paper, such an EDAC unit is adapted after an extensive literature survey. The proposed multibit EDAC is verified in two different steps. First, the encoder and decoder units are verified using Universal Verification Methodology (UVM). It is noted that all burst errors up to 4 bits are detected and corrected with 100% accuracy. The code coverage is measured up to 95% minimum. Following that, the same EDAC unit is verified by incorporating it into advanced microcontroller bus architecture. The results show that the EDAC unit has passed all memory testing successfully. This research focuses on the development of a passive X-band cylindrical resonator sensor antenna for temperature sensing applications. The resonator sensor antenna design aims to enable precise and real-time monitoring of temperature while embedded inside various materials and structures like polymers and composites. By integrating the sensing capabilities and a slot antenna directly into the cylindrical resonator structure, the research seeks to minimize additional components and streamline the sensing process. The cylindrical resonator sensor antenna operates at a frequency of 10.6 GHz to minimize the size of the resonator and enable high sensitivity and accuracy in detecting subtle changes in temperature. The cylindrical resonator is made from high-permittivity ceramic-loaded PTFE material by WavePro to ensure minimized dielectric losses and allow for sensor miniaturization. The sensor is interrogated through a high bandwidth probing antenna or a Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar and the reflected signals are analyzed to extract resonance data. This study proposes a design for the resonator and antenna through high-fidelity simulations and prototypes ensuring reliable and efficient sensing across a range of industrial and structural applications. The outcomes of this research hold the potential to significantly advance the capabilities of temperature monitoring systems. The novelty of this work resides on (a) using a commercial low-loss dielectric material for sensor implementation, (b) the use of advanced manufacturing techniques including 5-axis femtosecond laser machining, and (c) a novel embedded wireless sensor concept. A linear sensor temperature response is measured in the range of 25-210°C, at a sensing distance of 0.5 cm.

In this paper a new design of a double-slot antenna fed by microstrip line is proposed for power harvesting applications at Ka band. The antenna consists of two parallel slot radiators connected with CPW line in the middle. Radiation pattern of this antenna is optimized to exhibit the maximum gain of 9 dBi in two directions that are offset 40 degrees in respect to the antenna broadside. Proposed antenna is suitable for powering wireless sensor nodes and passive RF identification tags with known RF source when the frequency and direction of arrival of the field are known.

This paper presents the design and development of an universal and cost-effective embedded hardware platform for educational robotics applications. The core of the system utilizes the popular Atmega328P microcontroller, known for its robustness and affordability. The design prioritizes minimalism principles while maintaining essential functionalities for basic robot control and sensors integration. The hardware system includes four stepper motor drivers, four H-bridge motor drivers, a 16-channel PWM controller and GPIO connections for sensors and user command. The software design provides a versatile framework for controlling motors, reading sensor data, and enabling communication between devices, making the platform easy to program and customize. Our design makes the system ideal for educational and research settings, allowing users to explore robotics concepts without the constraints of complex and expensive hardware.

Low-energy threshold, high-resolution superconducting detector arrays with 10(3) -10(5) pixels are increasingly necessary in ground- and space-based telescopes across the electromagnetic spectrum including mm-wave, far-infrared (Far-IR), near-infrared, X-ray, and gamma rays. Reading out such large numbers of sensors poses significant technical challenges, but recent cryogenic readout technology developments are enabling the simultaneous read out of significantly more channels with minimal performance impact. An especially promising set of cold readout technologies couple cryogenic sensors to superconducting resonators. These technologies rely on high-frequency RF electronics to interrogate and demodulate the sensors' signals using digitally generated tones. Recently released Radio Frequency systems-on-Chip (RFSoC) devices from Xilinx combine a FPGA with high-speed ADCs and DACs onto a single chip. These systems provide significant advantages for these applications, including lower cost, reduced size and weight, lower power consumption, and improved RF performance. While an RFSoC-based warm readout system would be attractive for a broad range of spacecraft applications, Xilinx has not announced plans for a space qualified version of its RFSoC devices and insufficient data is publicly available to evaluate the feasibility of using RFSoC devices in space. To evaluate the suitability of RFSoC devices for spacecraft applications, we have designed and built custom boards using all space-qualified components except for the RFSoC. In this contribution we present the design of our custom RFSoC board, measurements of critical aspects of board performance which relate to operation in the harsh space environment, and measurements of integrated RF performance targeting the readout of large superconducting sensor arrays and space-based radio spectrometry. Increased flight time and advanced sensors are making Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) easier to use, facilitating their widespread adoption in fields such as precision agriculture or environmental monitoring. However, current applications are limited mainly to passive visual observation from far above; to enable the next generation of aerial robot applications, MAV s must begin to directly physically interact with objects in the environment, such as placing and collecting sensors. Enabling these applications for a wide spectrum of end-users is only possible if the mechanism is safe and easy to use, without overburdening the user with complex integration, complicated control, or overwhelming and convoluted feedback. To this end we propose a self-sufficient passive payload system to enable both the deployment and retrieval of sensors for agriculture. This mechanism can be simply mechanically attached to a commercial, off-the-shelf MAV, without requiring further electrical or software integration. The user-centric design and mechanical intelligence of the system facilitates ease of use through simplified control with targeted perceptual feedback. The usability of the system is validated quantitatively and qualitatively in a user study demonstrating sensor deployment and collection. All participants were able to deploy and collect at least four sensors both within 10 minutes in visual line-of-sight and within 12 minutes in beyond visualline-of-sight, after only three minutes of practice. Enabling MAVs to physically interact with their environment will usher in the next stage of MAV utility and applications. Complex tasks, such as sensor deployment and retrieval, can be realized relatively simply, by relying on a mechanically passive system designed with the user in mind, these payloads can enable such applications to be more widely available and inclusive to end-users.

This paper reports a novel MEMS resonant structure functioning as a baseline resonant electrostatic force/temperature sensor, highlighting its substantial potential in sensing applications. The resonator, characterized by a dual-cosine structure, is capable of simultaneous multiple resonant modes actuation within the 300 kHz range, through a sole-source drive approach using the recent emerging Blue Sideband Excitation (BSE) technique. This method enables a distinctive multi-modal response, essential for multi-parameter measurements. The research focuses on the sensor’s temperature characteristics, electrostatic perturbation sensitivity, and noise floor. Notably, the study reveals intriguing temperature responses across different modes, where certain modes exhibit a significant frequency rise with increasing temperature, this is counter-intuitive with common MEMS resonator devices, prompting further investigation into the underlying mechanisms. The analysis of electrostatic perturbation sensitivity and noise background further unfolds the resonator’s performance under various excitation conditions, laying a foundation for advancing sensor functionality, and providing solid evidence on the viability of the subject. To sum up, this study highlights the resonator’s potential as a high-precision sensor, opening new opportunities for MEMS sensor design and multi-parameter measurement applications.

The growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices have greatly improved the capabilities and applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Due to their open and modular design, wireless sensor networks supporting IoT are vulnerable to various security issues, including but not limited to unauthorized access, data mining, and competitive cyberattacks. In order to protect these networks from malicious attacks, intrusion detection system (IDS) has become an important first line of defence. This survey provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the art IDS techniques designed for IoTwireless sensor networks, focusing on classical, machine learning, and advanced deep learning. In particular, we report the recent integration of two optimization methods: Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), Gorilla Alliance Optimization (GTO), and Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA). Despite progress, challenges such as limited resources, timely completion, and capacity building remain significant. Through critical comparative analysis, we identify gaps in current research and suggest future directions, including the use of new technologies and model engines to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of IDS against security breaches. This research is designed to provide a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners who want to develop robust and adaptable IDS systems for IoT-enabled WSNs.

Accurate and reliable sensor measurements are critical for ensuring the safety and longevity of complex engineering systems such as wind turbines. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for sensor fault detection, isolation, and accommodation (FDIA) using masked models and self-supervised learning. Our proposed approach is a general time series modeling approach that can be applied to any neural network (NN) model capable of sequence modeling, and captures the complex spatio-temporal relationships among different sensors. During training, the proposed masked approach creates a random mask, which acts like a fault, for one or more sensors, making the training and inference task unified: finding the faulty sensors and correcting them. We validate our proposed technique on both a public dataset and a real-world dataset from GE offshore wind turbines, and demonstrate its effectiveness in detecting, diagnosing and correcting sensor faults. The masked model not only simplifies the overall FDIA pipeline, but also outperforms existing approaches. Our proposed technique has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy and reliability of sensor measurements in complex engineering systems in real-time, and could be applied to other types of sensors and engineering systems in the future. We believe that our proposed framework can contribute to the development of more efficient and effective FDIA techniques for a wide range of applications.
