Early detection of depression through self-diagnosis is challenging. Especially survey-based self-diagnosis can lead to incorrect results because the answer contains the subjective opinion of the respondent. To overcome this problem, the multi sensor-based method using a smartphone has been proposed as an alternative for self-diagnosis of depression. These methods diagnose depression by using various sensor data that represented typical depression symptoms from the smartphone. However, sensor data have difficulty estimating weight changes, a representative symptom of depression. In this paper, we propose a facial image-based weight change estimation method for use in diagnosing depression. In particular, we show i) simple feature engineering, designed to fast and robustly compare between two facial images using 3D face landmarks, ii) face alignment processing that makes the model accurately compare facial images which were taken from various viewpoints, and iii) a novel preprocessing with monocular depth estimation to solve scale variance according to variation of distance between the camera and face.

This paper introduces a novel high strength Active Ball Joint Mechanism (ABENICS) based on the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for orientation feedback and control. The advanced ABENICS incorporates a sophisticated interplay of specially designed Cross-spherical and Monopole gears, fabricated from Alumigo Hard alloy. Notably, the gear-based joint proficiently drives three rotational degrees of freedom (RDoF) without slippage. The information from the IMU sensor is leveraged to comprehend the orientation of the spherical gear, enabling accurate positioning to its predefined setpoint using the developed control method. During system startup, the IMU feedback also aids in homing the spherical gear, ensuring a seamless transition to normal operation. The experimental findings affirm the efficacy of the developed control method, showcasing a significant reduction in positioning errors. The paper also introduces the development and experimentation of a robotic arm with ABENICS mechanism as the shoulder joint. The paper concludes by discussing various applications of ABENICS mechanism in robotics.

The application of therapeutic treadmills and foot pedals in the rehabilitation of physically disabled children has demonstrated considerable promise in enhancing motor skills, cardiovascular health, and overall physical well-being. This abstract explores the combined advantages and uses of these therapeutic devices in pediatric rehabilitation. Therapeutic treadmills, equipped with customizable support and safety features, aid in improving gait, balance, and muscle strength. Foot pedals, intended for use in seated positions, offer a low-impact method to activate lower limb muscles and enhance coordination. Recent research indicates that integrating treadmills and foot pedals can yield substantial improvements in motor function, cardiovascular fitness, and psychological well-being. The inclusion of advanced technologies such as sensors, virtual reality, and biofeedback systems further optimizes the therapeutic experience, making rehabilitation more engaging and effective. This review emphasizes the necessity of personalized therapy programs, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing research to maximize outcomes for physically disabled children. Leveraging these advanced therapeutic tools and technologies holds significant potential for enhancing quality of life and functional independence in this demographic.

Healthcare has grown increasingly dependent on Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) for continuous monitoring of patient health metrics and real-time data transmission. Though wearable technology has limited resources and also medical data is sensitive, the integration of WBANs into healthcare systems raises serious security challenges, which require strong encryption methods to safeguard data integrity and restrict unauthorized access to sensitive medical health data. This survey presents a broad overview of modern encryption techniques used in WBANs, particularly as they pertain to e-healthcare applications. To provide secure data access in e-healthcare applications, we explore both conventional and advanced cryptographic techniques, such as lightweight encryption algorithms, identity-based encryption (IBE), attribute-based encryption (ABE), and hybrid encryption techniques. The paper also highlights ECC which works well in resource-constraint environments, making it suitable for WBAN applications. By examining modern issues like computational overhead, latency, and energy efficiency, the paper highlights the significance of a balance between security and performance when implementing encryption for WBANs. This survey aims to give a comprehensive assessment of the current state of encryption techniques used in e-healthcare, as well as suggestions for future research directions that could improve the security of next-generation healthcare systems. The ultimate goal is to protect patient data without sacrificing the effectiveness of medical services.

In plasma applications critical to industries like aerospace, automotive, material processing, advance manufacturing, and nuclear fusion, temperature sensor accuracy and reliability are essential for ensuring operational safety, efficiency, and equipment longevity. These sensors are vital in managing processes at extreme temperatures but face challenges due to data imbalance and uncertainty. Typically, extreme temperature events, anomalies are infrequent, leading to machine learning models that are undertrained for critical conditions, potentially missing failure signs. Additionally, sensor data uncertainty, from degradation, harsh environments, and response variability, can compromise data integrity for anomaly detection through diagnostic. This situation underscores the need for advanced methods to address challenges. Traditional diagnostic techniques fall short in complex plasma environments, often achieving suboptimal diagnostic accuracy. The initiation of Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) for plasma temperature sensor signals with combination of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) offers a breakthrough, with these models learning from complex data patterns and generating synthetic data to represent rare events better. This approach has significantly improved diagnostic accuracy in plasma applications, reaching up to 96.12%, a marked improvement over traditional methods. The integration of proposed diagnostic frameworks sets new standards for safety, efficiency, and reliability in plasma application engineering. It highlights the importance of developing machine learning algorithms that can manage data imbalance and incorporate uncertainty measures, ensuring models are accurate, reliable, and capable of identifying critical events. This advancement not only enhances plasma application reliability but also contributes to high-temperature operational management and sensor technology development, paving the way for more resilient and intelligent sensing systems in

With the increasing maturity of deep learning in the field of computer vision, traditional visual methods are gradually being replaced by deep learning algorithms, such as YOLO (You Only Look Once), accelerating the process of computational inference. The parking problem faces limitations in robustness under the constraints of diverse and complex scenarios from a traditional visual perspective. However, in the rapidly evolving modernization process, the development of parking systems has the potential to significantly advance the progress of artificial intelligence applications. This paper presents the design of a parking tracking system utilizing a laptop, D435i camera, STM32, and the YOLOv7 algorithm. By employing a detection-distance measurement-judgment approach, the system achieves target locking and tracking, allowing the vehicle to smoothly follow a specific target. Through experiments, our parking system demonstrates sharp target recognition and prompt responsiveness. The distance measurement error is maintained between 0.28 to 1 meter, and the YOLO inference speed stabilizes at 74 milliseconds until the system responds. This stability enables the parking system to make reliable judgments and respond quickly in real-world scenarios, providing a robust solution for practical applications.

With the rise of smart technologies, numerous tasks can now be automated without manual intervention, optimizing resource use in various applications. This work introduces-IrriSmart-a testbed for a smart, automatic irrigation system designed for efficient indoor plant care, particularly suited for indoor gardens, nurseries, and greenhouses. IrriSmart leverages advanced capacitive soil moisture sensors, which offer increased durability and accuracy by measuring soil dielectric permittivity, avoiding the corrosion and sensitivity issues associated with traditional resistive sensors. It integrates the ESP8266 Node MCU microcontroller, a DHT11 sensor for temperature and humidity monitoring, and a DC pumping motor, all coordinated via a relay module. Additionally, it also has a water flow sensor for precise water regulation. IrriSmart uses the Blynk IoT platform to effectuate real-time remote monitoring and control from any internet-connected device. The sensor data is also logged, providing users with insights into plant conditions and system performance. The key advantages of the proposed IrriSmart system include reduced maintenance requirements, comprehensive environmental data collection, and remote operability, making it a robust, cost-effective solution for automated irrigation in controlled environments.

The envisioned transformation of the National Airspace System to integrate an In-time Aviation Safety Management System (IASMS) to assure safety in advanced Air Mobility (AAM) brings unprecedented challenges to the design of human interfaces and management of safety information. Safety in design and operational safety assurance are critical factors for how humans will interact with increasingly autonomous systems. The IASMS Concept of Operations builds from traditional commercial operator safety management and scales in complexity to AAM. The transformative changes in future aviation systems pose potential new critical safety risks with novel types of aircraft and other vehicles having different performance capabilities, flying in increasingly complex airspace, and using adaptive contingencies to manage normal and non-normal operations. These changes compel development of new and emerging capabilities that enable innovative ways for humans to interact with data and manage information. Increasing complexity of AAM corresponds with use of predictive modeling, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to effectively address known hazards and emergent risks. The roles of humans will dynamically evolve in increments with this technological and operational evolution. The interfaces for how humans will interact with increasingly complex and assured systems designed to operate autonomously and how information will need to be presented are important challenges to be resolved.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), optimizing energy consumption and ensuring efficient data transmission are crucial for network longevity and performance. This paper introduces an enhanced clustering technique for wireless sensor networks that aims to extend network lifetime and ensure reliable data delivery. Instead of regular K-Means clustering, we integrate the Silhouette score method to evaluate cluster quality and decide the optimal number of clusters. This improves how nodes are grouped together in the network. Additionally, we strategically select routing paths from cluster heads to the base station that minimize energy drainage. Comprehensive simulations show our dual optimization approach outperforms standard K-Means in terms of energy efficiency, stable network organization and effective data transmission and overall, the proposed improvements to clustering and routing significantly advance energy-constrained wireless sensor networks toward more sustainable and dependable real-world applications.

In this article, we introduce a method for combining data from frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensors through sensor fusion. Our approach is designed specifically for non-destructive testing applications where it is necessary to estimate parameters such as the dielectric constant, loss tangent, and material thickness. Typically, the bandwidth of the sensor limits the minimum measurable material thickness as the reflections from the front and back of the dielectric medium must be distinguishable to accurately measure the electrical length of the material under test (MUT). To improve the resolution capabilities beyond those of a single sensor, we propose a sensor fusion technique that combines calibrated measurement signals with a material model. Material measurements combining three radar sensors are presented, to validate the proposed method. The used sensors operate from: i) 68 GHz to 92 GHz, ii) 122 GHz to 169 GHz, and iii) 205 GHz to 245 GHz.
