The aim of the research was to develop a concept of a remote measurement system for air quality management using IoT for an apartment with a mechanical exhaust system. The constant monitoring system with the possibility of manual control by the occupants allows teaching the occupants how to chose optimal settings with the biggest impact on the air quality. Additionally, using cloud data analysis, the measurements can be compared with simulations performed before the building construction. This allows choosing the proper apartment depending on the foreseen occupancy schedule and the family size.

As the global population continues to rise, the demand for higher food production exerts increasing pressure on traditional irrigation systems, which often lack the precision and efficiency required to meet modern agricultural demands. This growing challenge imposes innovative solutions, such as the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology into agriculture, which has led to the creation of smart irrigation systems. These advanced systems utilize IoT-enabled soil moisture monitoring sensors to collect real-time data on key environmental variables such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and other atmospheric conditions. Through this data, farmers gain actionable insights that allow them to automate and optimize irrigation, eliminating the need for manual intervention. This study explores into the benefits of IoT-based soil moisture monitoring systems, focusing on the capabilities for remote management, automation, and adaptability to climatic conditions. Key features include real-time data for on-demand and timed watering, as well as the simulation of rainfall patterns, which ensure optimal soil moisture levels. These technologies do not only help conserve water resources and reduce labor requirements but also promote sustainable farming practices by minimizing resource wastage. By improving irrigation efficiency and enhancing crop growth reliability, IoT-driven systems contribute to addressing global food security challenges, ensuring the sustainability of agricultural practices in the face of population growth.

The development of small, autonomous sensor devices and their integration into wireless sensor networks has resulted in robust, easy-to-deploy and easy-to-operate systems that are used in a wide range of applications. However, despite the obvious advantages, a number of problems need to be solved to ensure their long-term and uninterrupted operation. One of them is energy efficiency and uniform distribution of energy between the network nodes. Studies have shown that cognitive wireless sensor networks are able to adapt to the state and conditions of networks, take into account aspects such as nodes energy levels, and act accordingly. Among the adaptive protocols, LEACH is considered to be quite effective as it helps to reduce the energy consumption of the network, however, the cluster head selection is based on random approach, which may not be the most efficient way. This paper proposes a modification of the cluster head selection method that allows taking into account the energy of each network node. This approach will help to equalize the energy consumption of nodes and optimize the network workflow as a whole, increasing its reliability and service life.

At present, the latest technologies in the field of sensor, computing, and wireless communication technology have allowed the creation of a wide range of new applications in various fields, such as the transportation involved in civil and military operations, intelligence systems, personally used communications, industrial and health care automation. Although the mechanical image of the automobile, since its beginning, does not seem to have changed much, the industrial structure is now converging towards the revolution in advanced automation and information technology. Therefore, the GPS based navigation systems are very common these days such as;parallel parking driving assistance technology, the control system for an adaptive cruise, and warning system for changing the lane. This advanced technology has a lot of applications in improving the infrastructure of the traffic, like the automatic collection of toll taxes, monitoring of vehicles, an early warning system for road accidents, etc. This research work discusses the supporting technologies and advancement for intelligent transportation systems. Later in this paper, it is verified that by improving the efficiency and service flexibilities the energy consumption and total cost in the transportation system can be reduced. © 2021 IEEE.

This scientific paper is an outcome of the MARIE project (for more information, see ***) C09. This research addresses the development of innovative frequency-coded tags for localization, sensing, and ranging in harsh environments. The study focuses on enhancing orientation-insensitive THz retroreflectors through advanced approaches, including multi-notch high Radar Cross-Section (RCS) Corner Reflectors (CR) and Quasi Conformal Transformation Optics (QCTO)-enabled designs. Core innovations involve the integration of Luneburg lenses with Photonic Crystal (PhC)-based coding particles, fabricated using advanced materials such as Deep Reactive Ion Etched (DRIE) High-Resistive Silicon (HR-Si) and Lithography-based Ceramic Additive Manufacturing (LCM) with Alumina (Al₂O₃). These designs enable high-Q resonators for effective signal detection in extreme conditions up to 1200 °C, as in an indoor fire scenario. Achievements include wide-field-of-view (FoV) retroreflectors, frequency-coded lens reflectors, and wireless readouts capable of sub-mm localization. Future work will explore multi-material additive manufacturing and Liquid Crystal (LC)-based Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) to advance state-of-the-art localization systems for autonomous rescue applications. These findings establish a foundation for robust, high-temperature sensor fusion technologies.

With the growth of self-driving technologies, the reliability analysis of automated driving systems has received considerable attention from both academia and industry. Safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF) serves as one of the primary standards to assure the reliability and safety of the automated driving system. One of its key issues is the performance limitations of perception sensor systems. Generally, the reliability of the perception sensor system depends on the different scenarios of the driving environment. In this work, we investigate the sensor features and dependencies of the front camera and the top LiDAR of the nuTonomy scenes (nuScenes) dataset with respect to scenarios (e.g., rain and night) and distance information (e.g., two distance-based regions of interest). In addition, we apply the obtained parameters to a proven analytical reliability model to examine the impact of scenario and distance information on the reliability assessment.

Landslides pose a severe threat to mountainous regions, often resulting in catastrophic damage and loss of life. Existing prediction methods rely on limited data sources and infrequent monitoring, leading to delays in early warnings. Previous technologies have explored individual sensor applications, such as Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) and seismic sensors, but lack a comprehensive multi-sensor approach with real-time processing. Notable cases, like the Wayanad landslides in Kerala, India, highlight the urgent need for advanced predictive systems. This study proposes an AI-driven landslide prediction system using a network of 40 sensor-equipped slave kits. Each kit integrates GPR, seismic, Electromagnetic Induction (EMI), ultrasonic, LiDAR, capacitance probes, gravimeters, Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), and magnetometers onto a Teensy 4.1 microcontroller with an ESP8266 for wireless data transmission. Data is processed at a central master unit featuring a Jetson Nano module, employing the ALEXNET+BILSTM model for real-time analysis of soil stability and landslide risk. By leveraging edge computing, this system enables rapid decision-making and early warnings, addressing the limitations of existing methods. Its scalable, cost-effective architecture enhances environmental monitoring, offering a robust solution for landslide-prone communities and significantly improving disaster preparedness.

Several medium voltage power electronic applications, ranging from motor drives to circuit breakers, require low-cost, high-bandwidth, high-precision, lossless and isolated current sensors capable of measuring both dc and ac currents. In this paper, a compact, contactless current sensor based on a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) closed-loop anisomagnetoresistor (AMR) chip is proposed as a solution for the above applications. A special V-shaped busbar serves as the primary conductor to improve stray field immunity. The sensor design utilizes a low-profile, stacked assembly wherein the signal conditioning stage digitizes the AMR chip's analog output for transmission back to the controller via optical fiber for extremely high isolation voltage and common mode impedance. A resonant current bus is used to provide isolated power to the sensor circuits. The designed prototype is easily scaled to handle higher currents due the modular plug-and-play architecture. Experimental results of the designed sensor in a MV circuit breaker are provided to demonstrate a maximum accuracy error of < 0.25%, an overcurrent detection time of < 60 ns and successful scalability property without channel cross-talk.

World models learn behaviors in a latent imagination space to enhance the sample-efficiency of deep reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms. While learning world models for high-dimensional observations (e.g., pixel inputs) has become practicable on standard RL benchmarks and some games, their effectiveness in real-world robotics applications has not been explored. In this paper, we investigate how such agents generalize to real-world autonomous vehicle control tasks, where advanced model-free deep RL algorithms fail. In particular, we set up a series of time-lap tasks for an F1TENTH racing robot, equipped with a high-dimensional LiDAR sensor, on a set of test tracks with a gradual increase in their complexity. In this continuous-control setting, we show that model-based agents capable of learning in imagination substantially outperform model-free agents with respect to performance, sample efficiency, successful task completion, and generalization. Moreover, we show that the generalization ability of model-based agents strongly depends on the choice of their observation model. We provide extensive empirical evidence for the effectiveness of world models provided with long enough memory horizons in sim2real tasks.
