This research work proposes a secured privacy preservation scheme for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) that integrates multiple advanced techniques to ensure robust data confidentiality, integrity, and traceability. The methodology encompasses secure network initialization, symmetric key cryptography for data encryption and decryption, probabilistic packet marking for IP traceback, and secure routing protocols. Additionally, the scheme employs privacy-preserving data aggregation methods and an intrusion detection system (IDS) enhanced by machine learning for real-time threat detection and mitigation. The combination of these techniques addresses the critical security challenges in WSNs, making the model particularly suitable for sensitive applications such as military operations, healthcare, and critical infrastructure monitoring. A key feature of the proposed model is its superior performance, with encryption and decryption times of 1 ms and 0.9 ms respectively, which are significantly better than those of existing models. This comprehensive approach ensures that the WSN remains secure and reliable, even in the face of evolving cybersecurity threats.

advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is a set of safety features and technologies designed to increase vehicle safety and enhance the driving experience by providing assistance and automation for various driving tasks. Glare from the sun and headlights poses a significant challenge to ADAS by degrading the visibility of road scenes captured by day vision cameras. In this paper, a fusion rule approach is proposed to enhance road scene by reducing the effect of sun and headlight glare in day vision camera images using multi-scale image fusion techniques. Using the spectral characteristic information of day vision and thermal camera sensors, the approach reduces the negative effects of glare while preserving important scene details. When quality metrics in the literature are used for image fusion techniques, it has been observed that the proposed work gives better success than traditional methods.

Quantifying human daily activities can provide relevant monitoring information about physical activities and fall risk, and wearable sensors are promising devices for activity monitoring in daily life scenarios. This paper designed a novel plantar pressure insole and inertial sensor system and presented classification algorithms for activity classification and fall detection. We designed each plantar pressure insole with eight thin uniaxial load cells placed in the key area of a foot. Twenty healthy young adults performed selected activities in the laboratory while wearing the plantar pressure shoes and six inertial measurement units (IMUs) on their feet, shanks, and thighs of both sides. We adopted the convolutional neural network (CNN), ensemble learning, and support vector machine (SVM) methods for activity classification, and the input data were inertial data, pressure data, and both data. We adopted CNN, RNN (recurrent neural network), LSTM (long short-term memory), and CNN-LSTM method for fall detection, and compared results before and after the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory. Results show that for activity classification, CNN with both inertial and plantar pressure data got the best accuracy of 97.1%. For fall detection, the accuracy of RNN, CNN, LSTM, and CNN-LSTM were 93.77%, 95.85%, 96.16%, and 97.76%, respectively. LSTM got comparable accuracy as CNN-LSTM but with much less latency. The presented wearable system and algorithms show good feasibility in activity classification and fall detection, which could serve as a foundation for physical activity monitoring and fall alert systems for elderly people. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

The motive of the research is to investigate the significance of predictive energy analysis in intelligent energy management systems that are environmentally friendly integrated to buildings. This innovative framework integrates advanced machine learning algorithms with IoT sensor networks to optimize energy consumption in green buildings. The system employs ensemble methods, combining time series forecasting models (e.g., ARIMA, Prophet) with deep learning architectures (LSTM, GRU) to predict energy demand patterns. Real-time data from smart meters, occupancy sensors, and weather APIs feed into a feature engineering pipeline, extracting relevant temporal and contextual information. The predictive models inform a reinforcement learning-based control system, which dynamically adjusts HVAC, lighting, and power distribution systems. This approach achieves significant energy savings while maintaining occupant comfort through adaptive setpoint optimization. The system's modular architecture facilitates seamless integration with existing building management systems, ensuring scalability and interoperability across diverse green building environments. This paper illustrates short-term energy predictive analysis techniques and tools as well as the ones for intelligent management of energy systems simultaneously with exploring links between this technology and the green construction. Such descriptions and real-life examples also greatly highlight how predictive energy analytics can efficiently help in energy conservation in various green building applications.

In recent years, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications has been remarkable, characterized by integrating tasks across multiple devices, forming the so-called edge-cloud continuum. The ability to reconfigure the software behavior over all nodes of the continuum has become crucial to support applications with varying demands. However, located at the extreme edge of IoT deployments, IoT microcontrollers often have static behaviors. Although Over the Air (OTA) methodologies are widely supported by most devices, the reconfiguration process may involve potentially inefficient and hazardous updates of the entire firmware. In response, this paper proposes an OTA software update system for IoT microcontrollers leveraging portable WebAssembly (WASM) code. By separating the application logic from the rest of the firmware, our system ensures heterogeneity, safety, efficiency, and reliability. Furthermore, we propose an update procedure based on different network protocols (MQTT and HTTP) to facilitate dealing with groups of IoT microcontrollers in a single action. We implemented a Configuration and Administration Toolkit (CAT) to evaluate our proposal and conducted a comprehensive performance analysis using a small-scale IoT testbed. Our findings demonstrate that while the WASM logic updates notably outperform those of the entire firmware, achieving a 30x delay reduction, they incur a performance overhead that is lower than MicroPython when compared to native C++ development.

The precise measurement of blood pressure is essential for evaluating cardiovascular health and managing hypertension, a significant contributor to global morbidity and mortality. This study introduces two empirical formulae derived from normalized Photoplethysmography (PPG) values, facilitating accurate estimation of systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure levels. Leveraging a novel attention mechanism-based Artificial Neural Network (ANN), a robust model is developed capable of categorizing individuals into distinct hypertension stages i.e. Normal, Pre-Hypertension, Hypertension Stage-1 (HS1), and Hypertension Stage-2 (HS-2) using heart rate, SBP, and DBP data from publicly available datasets. The obtained root-mean-squared error (RMSE) values for SBP and DBP are 2.623 and 3.481, respectively, and mean absolute error (MAE) values for SBP and DBP are 3.049 and 3.852, respectively. Notably, the attention mechanism-based ANN model achieves a classification accuracy of 98.30%. Implemented on an Arduino UNO, the framework utilizes a PPG sensor for real-time testing, accurately predicting SBP and DBP and enabling hypertension classification. Additionally, an Android app has been developed for continuous monitoring of health parameters. Realtime continuous predictions on 11 volunteers using the proposed hardware framework yielded average (MAE ± SD) error values of $3.625 \pm 2.58$ mmHg for SBP and $4.085 \pm 2.74$ mmHg for DBP. Additionaly, mean arterial pressure (MAP) values were computed to contrast the performance of BPWave with existing cuff-based sphygmomanometer device.

Environmental incidents like fires, gas leaks and explosions that happen at random and unforeseen times might be greatly helped by event detection via a wireless sensor network. Determining the occurrence of a specific event is hence one of a system’s most important tasks. The system must be able to gather and infer environmental data that will enable isolating and recognizing specific occurrences in order to do this. Several alternative event detection methods, such as those that can be handled by separate sensors, remote groups, or fusion centers, are employed in wireless sensor networks depending on how the environmental data is acquired. This paper provides an overview of event detection mechanisms and challenges, as well as the hypothesis, and covers the fundamental requirements for sensing systems. Furthermore, relevant research work on environmental event detection in current event detection approaches is reviewed and discussed. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to conduct a relative analysis of the event detection mechanism using fusion center-based fuzzy logic for improving the detection system’s performance. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The growth of automotive industry not only focus on power efficiency and carbon emission reduction, it also has makes further progress in the areas of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) technologies. With the progressive technology breakthrough and heavily studies in these two areas, the demand for imaging cameras is steadily increasing to support applications such as lane detection, traffic sign detection, pedestrian/vehicle recognition and driver monitoring. Consequently, this drives higher demand for image sensor packages to meet stringent automotive reliability requirements. In the past, high reliability image sensor packages are typically with ceramic based packages, these tend to have considerably higher costs and longer development cycles than laminate-based packages which are normally used in high speed, RF or MEMS market segment. Therefore, it is important to ensure a high reliability for the laminate-based packages by studying the package design. This can be done by finite element analysis (FEA) which is a fast and cost-efficient method in analyzing the stress experienced by the package. This paper discusses the effects of different package designs on the package stress using the FEA simulation method.

With the Internet of things and other network devices demanding faster and more reliable connectivity, combined with exponential data growth, LTE-advanced system provides high data rate and low latency with increased mobility for multimedia applications and improved spectral efficiency. LTE-A also provides support to machine type communication (MTC) devices which describes the communication with machines without the engrossment of a humanoid. These MTC devices with the application of IoT provide small amount of sensing and monitoring data with low data rate requirement. In order to improve the performance of the LTE-A system, the radio resources for every user in the network should be efficiently managed by providing QoS requirements for every user. The radio resource management algorithm in LTE-A network provides cross-layer resource allocation between the user equipment (UE) and MTC devices. Since all the MTC devices are sensor nodes and battery powered equipment, they should consume very little amount of power. In this work, we propose a cross-layer energy efficient radio resource management scheme for allocating the physical resources to UE and MTC devices. Rate adaptive (RA) principle is utilized in this work to improve the energy efficiency and to upsurge the capacity of the channels. The performance of the system is evaluated by calculating the data rate of each user and allocating the resource to each user, packet loss ratio, fairness index, packet delay, peak signal-to-noise ratio, and time consumption. With the comparison of the existing algorithms, the simulated results obtained from the proposed algorithm guarantees QoS service to the user by consuming less energy for UE and MTC devices with increased fairness index and decreased packet loss. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Distributed systems and blockchain consensus protocols rely on a clock synchronization algorithm to resolve any conflicts related to the state of data or resources. Faulty and adversarial peers make it challenging to achieve clock synchronization in a peer-to-peer distributed system. Clock-synchronization protocols such as the Network Time Protocol (NTP) and the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) are effective but only in a partially or fully trusted network. They fail to synchronize clocks in the presence of misbehaving peers who try to rewind or fast-forward time or introduce deadlocks *** paper introduces BFT-Metronome, a Byzantine fault-tolerant clock synchronization algorithm for peer-to-peer distributed systems. The novel BFT-Metronome algorithm combines a sensor-fusion algorithm with a statistical outlier detection algorithm to enable participating peers to determine the most likely skew based on broadcast timestamps. The algorithm is designed to withstand up to $\frac{N}systems - 1$ misbehaving participants in a network of N total participants, and the independently calculated offset is observed to be within 10 ms of precision vs. 40-100 ms in peer-to-peer distributed *** BFT-Metronome clock synchronization algorithm can also be applied to blockchain consensus protocols (such as Proof-of-Stake) that rely on weakly synchronized clocks. This is shown by integrating BFT-Metronome with the Lightweight Mining Algorithm to achieve consensus-round synchronization and timeouts. Then, generalization to other protocols is argued qualitatively. It can also be applied to large distributed systems to secure against insider threats during clock synchronization.
