Precision Agriculture (PA) is a farming management strategy that leverages digital technologies and techniques to monitor and optimize agricultural production processes. By utilizing data streams from satellites, mobile phones, the Internet of Things (IoT), and technologies like cloud computing and artificial intelligence, PA has the potential to improve the quantity and quality of agricultural outputs while reducing inputs and waste. This article presents a proposed irrigation system for PA in the field of smart farming. The system incorporates a diverse set of sensors, including soil moisture and temperature sensors, air humidity and temperature sensors, water level sensors, and light sensors. It also integrates weather data from a forecasting platform, encompassing variables such as wind speed, wind direction, and weather status. By collecting and analyzing field-specific data alongside weather forecasts, the system enables precise and sustainable watering practices. The data is stored, analyzed, and visualized using a ThingSpeak platform, providing farmers with valuable insights to make informed irrigation decisions.

Passive sensing exploiting Wi-Fi as an illuminator of opportunity has attracted considerable interest for the ubiquitous presence of Wi-Fi systems in many environments, and the relative low cost & complexity of related passive solutions. In this paper, we consider a reference-free, amplitude-based sensing strategy exploiting Wi-Fi signals of opportunity and we investigate the potential advantage conveyed by the use of polarimetric diversity on receive. Specifically, we exploit the data collected by a dual-pol receiver to experimentally demonstrate that the joint availability of the signals collected by differently polarized antennas (H and V) could remarkably enhance the detection performance of the resulting Wi-Fi sensor, even if based on such a simple and cost-effective reference-free sensing approach. Moreover, we analyze the characteristics of the target signatures extracted by the considered amplitude-based approach for either single and dual-pol receivers, in order to investigate their suitability for detecting and recognizing different human movements, in view of future applications for automatic classification.

These underwater Acoustic sensor Networks (UWSNs) present unique challenges due to the harsh and dynamic underwater environment, making efficient communication protocols essential for their operation. This paper introduces an innovative Energy Efficient Clustering Routing Protocol (EECRP) specifically designed for UWSNs, leveraging the advancements of 6G technology. EECRP employs a distributed clustering mechanism and energy-efficient routing strategy to optimize energy consumption, prolong network lifetime, and enhance communication reliability. The protocol integrates with 6G technologies, such as terahertz communication and quantum communication security, to further enhance performance and security in UWSNs. Through simulation and comparative analysis, EECRP demonstrates superior performance compared to existing routing protocols in terms of energy efficiency, throughput, and scalability. EECRP’s contributions lie in its novel approach to routing in UWSNs, emphasizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and integration with advanced technologies. This research paves the way for the adoption and deployment of EECRP in various underwater applications, facilitating scientific research, environmental monitoring, and technological innovation in underwater communication systems.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have gained attention for neuromorphic computing applications due to their resistive switching (RS) behavior [1], [2]. Among TMDCs, platinum diselenide (PtSe2) stands out because it can be grown at complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible temperatures [3], [4] and it has shown excellent long-term stability [5]. However, its potential for RS remains largely unexplored with only preliminary proof-of-concept characteristics presented in a multilayer PtSe2 device with Au electrodes [6]. Here, we present the first detailed study on forming free RS in PtSe2-based crosspoint (CP) memristors using CMOS-compatible electrodes. We find remarkably low switching fields (0.08 V /nm) likely related to our choice of electrode materials and excellent retention for at least several days. © 2022 IEEE.

Due to the advancements in ocean monitoring and underwater exploration, it has become increasingly important to incorporate a method of underwater sensor network that would be cost effective and energy efficient, reducing maintenance efforts and increasing longevity. Underwater sensor Network applications based on acoustic, optical and RF communication are gaining popularity, especially acoustic communication in this area for applications such as offshore oil and gas extraction, military surveillance, mine detection, tsunami, and hurricane forecasts to name a few. One of the simpler architectural implementations of the sensor network is the 2D - Underwater sensor Network, where a group of sensor networks are anchored underwater to the surface, with a cluster head nominated for communication within the cluster nodes and the surface buoyant nodes. There exist certain optimization algorithms that address the problem of optimal cluster head selection to minimize resources consumed and increase the lifespan of the cluster. One such technique that we use in our research is Social Group Optimization (SGO). It is based on the human behavior of learning and solving complex problems. This report uses this SGO technique to choose the cluster head among a set of clusters, in which number of solutions are taken and calculated to yield a robust solution where the sacrifices of time and complexity are minimized. © 2021 ACM.

The IoT -based women protection system employs advanced machine learning models to provide real-time threat detection and emergency response. This paper presents a novel approach that integrates feature extraction and dimensionality reduction techniques to enhance the system's performance. By combining statistical methods and time-frequency analysis, the proposed model effectively processes high -dimensional sensor data, such as heart rate, movement patterns, and GPS coordinates, ensuring accurate threat detection. A thorough evaluation was conducted comparing the proposed model with nine existing models, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The proposed model achieved an impressive accuracy of 97.81 %, outperforming the best-performing alternative models such as LightGBM and XGBoost. Additionally, the model demonstrates significant improvements in precision, recall, and F1-score, highlighting its capability to detect and classify potential threats in real time. Energy efficiency and low inference time make this model suitable for IoT devices, ensuring seamless operation without excessive resource consumption. The results indicate that the proposed model is robust, efficient, and well-suited for real-time safety applications, particularly in IoT -based systems focused on women protection.

In urban areas, water scarcity is amplified by the extensive 25-30% use of water resources for gardening, straining municipal supplies. This paper introduces an IoT- based Plant Watering System tailored for rooftop plantations, addressing the challenge of urban space constraints. Leveraging advanced IoT technology with sensors, actuators, and a central control unit, the system monitors and manages rooftop plant watering in real time. Precise irrigation, guided by real-time soil moisture data, is pivotal. The system’ s architecture, detailed herein, strategically positions sensors for optimized rooftop gardening. Key hardware components like soil moisture sensors, microcontrollers, and water pumps, paired with C++ scripted software, ensure seamless functionality. Implementing IoT-based watering systems demonstrates substantial water conservation, with studies indicating a 3050% reduction compared to conventional methods. Cities adopting smart green solutions witness notable increases in urban green cover. IoT-driven plant care systems have led to 20-30% growth in green spaces within urban landscapes. Embracing IoT capabilities, this system automates rooftop plant watering, optimizing water use and fostering healthy growth. Preliminary trials showcased a remarkable 30% water consumption reduction compared to traditional methods, emphasizing its efficiency and sustainability in conserving urban water resources. Anticipated implementations could enhance urban green cover by 25%, significantly contributing to environmentally conscious urban ecosystems.

At present, the modeling of an ultrasonic transducer at the lower ultrasound range (20 kHz) during data transmission is being defaced. Ultrasonic sensors are a key part of ultrasonic technology. The use of ultrasonic vibrations is one of the simplest and most effective ways to process an ultrasonic signal. The advantage of this method is that ultrasound is not audible to the human ear, so it does not have a negative mental effect on a person and by increasing the radiation power, a larger suppression area can be achieved. More recently, information-processing technologies in corporate communication systems and information transfer using ultrasonic vibrations are increasingly being used. This is because more advanced applications are emerging in the field of wireless (short and long range) communication and data transmission, and at the same time, new challenges arise that require these corporate systems to have high frequency, wide bandwidth and compact size. The use of simplified physical models does not allow obtaining the expected results in the process of structural analysis of the latter. In this regard, the need arose for the integration of models that regulate and take into account a wide variety of material properties and allow you to solve with the help of powerful software in computer modeling is the ANSYS software package. © 2021 IEEE.

Machine learning (ML) methods are increasingly being applied to solve complex, data-driven problems in diverse areas, by exploiting the physical laws derived from first principles such as thermal hydraulics and the abstract laws developed recently for data and computing infrastructures. These physical and abstract laws encapsulate, typically in compact algebraic forms, the critical knowledge that complements data-driven ML models. We present a unified perspective of these laws and ML methods using an abstract algebra (A;circle plus, circle times), wherein the performance estimation and classification tasks are characterized by the additive circle plus operations, and the diagnosis, reconstruction, and optimization tasks are characterized by the difference circle times operations. This abstraction provides ML codes and their performance characterizations that are transferable across different areas. We describe practical applications of these abstract operations using examples of throughput profile estimation tasks in data transport infrastructures, and power-level and sensor error estimation tasks in nuclear reactor systems.

The continuous depletion of naturally occurring resources to meet the daily global energy demand will likely exhaust the fossil fuels in near future. Consequently, to preserve natural deposits and alleviate the energy crisis, solar energy has emerged as a prominent alternative source of energy. However, the efficiency of solar panels remains a center of challenge for researchers as it declines over the course of the day due to the variation in solar irradiance. Furthermore, the immobile nature of most solar panels used in different regions-fixed to a pole or a building's roof-sets impediment in maximizing solar irradiation. This paper introduces a dual-axis solar tracking system designed to optimize solar energy production through continuous monitoring of solar irradiance using a 20 W rated polycrystalline solar panel. The system incorporates four light-dependent resistors (LDR) to detect the maximum illumination from the sun, which is integrated with two servo motors to orient the panel towards the optimal source of light. A microcontroller-based monitoring system has also been integrated to record voltage, current, power and temperature of the system. Both hardware and software systems have been considered for better optimization. The field-test results verify that the proposed system is 11.5% more efficient than a 30° tilted static solar panel facing south in terms of power generation. This study holds prospects for small and medium scale photovoltaic applications.
