The presented paper proposes a model of the Internet of Things (IoT) based Wireless sensor Network (WSN) base station node for outdoor localisation. The node is supposed to be an essential part of the network's infrastructure, where the node should be adapted to the real-time application. This study suggested designing and implementing a base-station sensor node for data collection and trilateration localisation processing. The proposed node is implemented on an FPGA type to utilise the power and speed of this type of circuit in a pure hardware description or a combined hardware/software approach, using languages like C/C++ to describe materials known as a high-level synthesis (HLS) approach. The node incorporates in its architecture a MicroBlaze-type soft-processor to manage tasks like transmission between the different end-device nodes, presenting data at the inputs of the Ip-core for processing, and reading and representing output data. An additional trilateration block has been built as a dedicated IP core for the localisation process. The experimental findings confirmed that the proposed base station node could perform real-time data processing as expected, where a time of 63 microseconds was reached in the RSSI-based outdoor localisation process. © 2023 IEEE.

In this article, we explore a significant innovation in the field of antenna design, focusing on sub-6 GHz frequencies for 5G, with an emphasis on the n77, n78, and n79 bands, as well as the LTE bands 22/42/43/46. Our unique antenna design incorporates a strategic arrangement of slots that form a positive pattern resembling a symbol within a circle, on a substrate FR-4 with dimensions of 25x25x1.6 mm3. The antenna properties were developed through simulations conducted using CST Microsoft Studio Simulation software. The use of these slots to generate inductive and capacitive coupling allows our antenna prototype to effectively cover a frequency range from 3 to 6 GHz. Furthermore, we have adopted the Defected Ground Structure (DGS) technique to optimize bandwidth and improve antenna performance, resulting in a remarkably low S11 below -10 db. This innovative configuration is ideal for a variety of applications, including Wi-Fi, WLAN, LTE, and sub-6 GHz 5G communication, thereby offering a promising method to enhance performance in wireless communication systems. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a secure IoT framework for remote health monitoring using fog computing, tailored for the Jordanian healthcare context. The proposed Remote Health System (RHS) addresses critical challenges in healthcare IoT applications, including latency, security, and bandwidth consumption. By integrating IoT wireless sensor networks with fog and cloud computing, our framework overcomes limitations prevalent in cloud-only solutions. The architecture leverages fog computing layers to provide local storage, real-time data processing, and preliminary analysis, acting as decision-makers and security checkpoints before relaying data to the cloud for complex functions. We incorporate advanced threat detection mechanisms and secure protocols to protect sensitive health data throughout its lifecycle. The performance and security of the proposed framework were evaluated using FogNetSim++ and OMNeT++ 4.6 simulations. The paper uses fog security and ZigBee communication protocols which implemented in the proposed framework. Results demonstrate the system's ability to reduce latency, energy consumption, and end-to-end delay while maintaining high security levels. CPU usage, memory consumption, and end-to-end delay were analyzed for various node configurations. The framework shows promise in enhancing healthcare delivery in Jordan, particularly in remote and underserved areas, by leveraging the strengths of IoT, fog computing, and cloud infrastructure. This work contributes to the evolving landscape of e-health systems in Jordan, by proposing a scalable, efficient, and secure solution that addresses the unique challenges of the country's healthcare sector. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of vehicle-to-everything (V2x) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) technologies is reshaping vehicular communication, necessitating robust protocols capable of supporting low-power and lossy networks (LLNs). The routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks (RPLs) plays a vital role in enhancing data exchange efficiency and reliability within dynamic vehicular environments. However, RPL faces significant security challenges when adapted to vehicular networks, which differ markedly from the less hostile environments originally envisioned for RPL. In this article, we analyze the security vulnerabilities of RPL in the complex interactive environment of vehicular networks. Specifically, we introduce a novel deep learning-based dynamic attack algorithm to expose the limitations of existing defense mechanisms and highlight RPL's security vulnerabilities in IoV applications. The experimental results reveal that the proposed attack outperforms traditional attacks in multiple metrics, increasing packet loss by 43%, end-to-end delay by 300%, and reducing link quality throughput by 60% and vehicle node battery life by 50%. Even with in place defense mechanisms, our attack demonstrates greater effectiveness 70% over traditional methods, including version number attacks, wormhole attacks, and DIS flooding attacks. These findings underscore the insufficiency of current security measures and confirm the urgent need for advanced protective strategies to safeguard RPL deployments, particularly in complex IoV communication scenarios.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as a viable substitute for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in electric vehicles (EVs) due to the growing need for sustainable energy solutions. A comprehensive modeling framework for SIBs designed especially for electric vehicle applications is presented in this paper, with a focus on how these batteries integrate with wireless communication and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The thermal and electrochemical models of SIBs, their possible use in vehicle-to-everything (V2x) systems, and the wireless state-of-charge (SoC) monitoring via real-time communication protocols are investigated. Simulation results demonstrated the efficiency of SIBs in vehicular applications, their compatibility with wireless data transfer protocols, and their contribution to energy optimization in ITS. The paper concludes with insights into the future of SIBs in EVs and wireless transportation ecosystems.

Based on light-emitting diode (LED) lighting and recent advances in visible light communication (VLC), we propose a new visible light-based localization scheme that uses a grid color-coding principle to develop a highly accurate localization system. By measuring the light received through the projected area on the color-coded film (for light filtering) and comparing it with a predefined color code, the system can determine the 2-dimensional position of the receiver relative to an LED, i.e., the reference point (RP). It is worth noting that the proposed solution has the following attractive features and differs from existing systems: (i) it uses only one photodiode (PD) on the user device for localization, and (ii) it can provide highly accurate indoor localization with centimeter resolution. Interesting applications include localization for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), advanced warehousing and logistics. Since PD or light sensor can have a response time of about 25 ms or even faster, one can also expect low latency in localization, which is especially suitable for supporting mobile users and new location-based services. Simulation results have shown that an average positioning error of less than 10 centimeters is achievable under suitable conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

The solid-state Current Limiting Switches are widely used in Aerospace applications to improve the operation of DC power systems. These devices, also called Latching Current Limiters - LCLs, are used to protect the DC power bus. They can provide timed action, controlled inrush current and limited overcurrent, avoiding potentially dangerous overloads and surge currents. The switch also creates the possibility to restart the loads that suffered temporary failures. One important issue concerning the use of LCL in harsh environments, especially in space applications, is the radiation effects in its electronic circuit. To avoid these effects, a series of design techniques must be applied to ensure the LCL will work properly. This work presents the implementation and tests of three distinct LCLs, using different controllers. The first controller's circuit uses commercial off-the-shelf components;the second circuit uses a dedicated microelectronics, built in 0.6um SOI - CMOS technology;the third circuit uses a dedicated microelectronics also built in 0.6um SOI - CMOS technology, employing Radiation Hardening By Design (RHBD) methods. All the LCLs use the same model of current sensor and P-channel power MOSFET. The LCLs were submitted to radiation tests using Gamma rays (Cobalt-60) until a total ionizing dose (TID) of 50krad. The test results are presented and discussed. The LCLs supported the applied radiation levels without failure in functional tests. Some parameters had a slightly variation when compared to the original values. Enclosed Layout Transistors (ELT) were exposed to radiation and the VGS(th) were measured.

Vibration characteristics of a low-cost measurement system based on the ADxL100x micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) sensors are presented in this paper. The discussed measurement system consists of two ADxL100x MEMS accelerometers, interfaced with a Bea-gleBone Black microcontroller. The accelerometers were mounted on a vibration exciter equipped with a reference accelerometer. The vibration exciter was feeded using a function generator with various frequencies and acceleration signals. Vibration characteristics were investigated by comparing reference and recorded frequencies, sensitivity illustration over various frequencies, and sensitivity effects on different accelerations. The results demonstrate that the ADxL100x MEMS sensor is efficient and suitable for high-sensitivity applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

BIB detectors are highly favored in the hyperspectral detection domain due to their high sensitivity, broad spectral response, low dark current, and strong radiation resistance. An infrared hyperspectral imaging system based on BIB detectors is under development, applicable in the fields of target detection and imaging. The system includes high-sensitivity linear BIB detectors, high-resolution grating spectrometers, and a cryogenic system. The design of the spectrometer incorporates an off-axis three-mirror system and a segmentable three-channel grating. And the cryogenic system with a dual-temperature zone is employed to provide cooling for the detector and the spectrometer to reduce background radiation noise and to enhance performance, respectively. Additionally, the spot diagrams and the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of the spectrometer are analyzed and optimized in different background temperatures. The cooling capacity required by the spectrometer and detector are discussed in different cooling temperatures. In addition, an infrared hyperspectral imaging system integrated with opto-thermal analysis is being developed and tested, and fairly good agreements between the theoretical and experimental results are found. Coupled with a BIB detector with a working spectral range of 6-40μm, a linear array configuration of 64×1, and pixel dimensions of 100 μm×100 μm, the system can reach an MTF value of 0.25. This allows for the capture of clear and discernible images and achieves exceptional imaging quality and spectral resolution capabilities. © 2024 SPIE.

The energy transition and global geopolitical situation present numerous oil and gas operators with opportunities to accelerate production growth and monetize hydrocarbon resources. While rapid production growth comes with proportional risks, it becomes crucial for reservoir surveillance engineers to quickly identify, derisk, and mitigate subsurface performance uncertainties. In this demanding scenario, the need for high-frequency reservoir performance surveillance is more critical than ever. Fortunately, advanced technologies have emerged as a refuge for subsurface engineers facing these *** such technology is fiber optics, which has matured significantly over the past two decades, allowing for real-time well-performance overviews in various applications. This capability enhances well-management efficiency and enables prompt corrective actions, as demonstrated in papers SPE 200088 and SPE *** similar lines, the dynamic nature of the industry has also driven subsurface practitioners to think innovatively and apply existing technologies for out-of-the-box solutions. For instance, tracers, traditionally used for understanding subsurface connectivity, are now being used to calibrate surface networks and optimize gas lift injection performance. Such unconventional approaches have been explored in paper SPE 207431, highlighting their effectiveness. In addition to tracers, technologists are turning rock cuttings, often considered mere waste, into valuable information. As demonstrated by paper SPE 206214, these insights aid in elucidating depositional sequences and fluid-migration paths, thereby facilitating better field development ***, technology groups are working on innovative solutions that use advanced sensing and artificial-intelligence (AI) -based technologies.
