Over the last few decades, the rapid growth of industrialization has led to a significant increase in atmospheric pollution and a decline in air quality, resulting in various respiratory illnesses. Currently, thin film gas sensors are becoming increasingly important in the detection of harmful gases. The sensitivity of the sensor relies on the materials, morphology, and techniques used to create the thin film, with a thickness ranging in nm. These metal semiconductor sensors are manufactured by depositing a thin film on different materials using the physical vapour deposition technique or Hydrothermal Method. In this proposed work, we fabricated 1D,2D,3D nanostructured zinc oxide thin films on a glass substrate as a sensitive layer by varying temperature and chemical composition, with silver (Ag) as a metal contact. The fabricated layers were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) which reviled nano flower, nanorod & nanowires like structure, layer composition of Zn and O elements wear got from Energy Dispersive x-ray Analysis (EDAx) and crystalline nature of the grown ZnO is characterized by x-ray diffraction (xRD) it revealed a Hexagonal Crystal structured ZnO nanoparticle with Alpha (°): 90, Beta (°): 90, Gamma (°): 120 and IV Characteristics were obtained from fabricated device are in resistive nature. Furthermore, the device is characterized for gas sensing application to sense the acetone vapour. © 2023 IEEE.

Recently, internet of things (IoT) has caused revolution in almost all walks of life. As a critical object detection, identification, and sensing technology of IoT, radio frequency identification (RFID) has been treasured as the interface between the digital and physical world [1]. As the key component of RFID, RFID reader antenna is facing many challenges which restricts the development of RFID and IoT. First, the small and single coverage zone limit the application scenarios of RFID [2]-[3]. Moreover, there is a research blank of frequency reconfigurable RFID reader antenna, which is treasured because it can free the frequency band limit of RFID reader without violating different countries' RF policies and increase the information diversity in RFID sensing systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Effectively integrating advanced information methods to promote the digital transformation of highways, improving their management efficiency and service level, is an important way to enhance the high-quality development of highway networks. Through the collection and integration of dynamic traffic information in the whole space and time, vehicle-road collaboration can provide accurate, real-time and personalized travel information services. The multiple rounds of policy, technology, and market promotion have led to the rapid development of vehicle-road collaboration on intelligent highways, but the construction and application process is generally faced with the weak ability to reach the information, the sense of user experience is not strong and other issues. The coverage rate of roadside equipment and the penetration rate of vehicle end are increasing, laying the foundation for the construction of an integrated and refined travel information service model. This paper analyzes the key technologies and research status of information exchange and information services in vehicle road collaboration, looks forward to a new model of integrated travel services, and relies on the digital foundation of intelligent highways to create a highway information service model based on vehicle road collaboration technology. This provides a reference for expanding innovative applications of vehicle-road collaboration and enhancing the construction and operation efficiency of intelligent highways. © 2024 SPIE.

Cardiovascular disease is a major risk to human health, which needs long-term monitoring for prevention and early diagnosis. Optical sensors present the advantage of immunity to electromagnetic field and high sensitivity, and have been growing in a variety of emerging medical applications to monitor human cardiac parameters. Most of the current optical sensors can only measure limited cardiovascular information such as the heart rate, therefore, the optics-based approach for cardiac electrophysiology has attracted the attention of more researchers. In this paper, we developed a method to evaluate the availability of our proposed anti-EMI optical sensor. The sensitivity of optical sensor based on electro-optic modulation can achieve 266.4 mu W/V and detect the electrocardiogram (ECG) by attached to the chest and edge of clavicle. A series of ECG signals over 1 hour were analyzed using proposed method, which is driven by the optimization of R-peak location, Lorenz plot and statistical correlation. ECG monitoring results of the optical sensors are in accordance with a standard clinical device (SOMNOtouch (TM) RESP) among different subjects. Moreover, both the sensors are tested in daily electromagnetic conditions, and it causes some obvious signal artifacts to the SOMNO system, but almost no effect on the optical sensors during the long-term test. We provide further grounds for such clinical applications by demonstrating, for the first time to our knowledge, optics-based device used in long-term ECG monitoring, an essential tool in modern cardiac monitoring applications.

SF6 gas sensor is developed to measure SF6 gas at different concentrations mixed with N-2 based on mid-IR absorption of SF6 at a wavelength of similar to 10.6 mu m. An optical bandpass filter of similar to 10.6 mu m is put in front of a thermal emitter source to allow light of this wavelength to pass through. A CMOS compatible pyroelectric detector is put on the other end of the gas channel to measure the voltage change due to presence of SF6 gas. Here, we use AlN-based and 12% ScAlN-based pyroelectric detectors respectively. The results show for 100% SF6 gas sensing, 12% ScAlN-based pyroelectric detector gives similar to 73% higher response compared to when using AlN-based pyroelectric detector. The voltage drop between reference N-2 gas and different SF6 gas concentrations is also higher (up to 2x) when using 12% ScAlN-based pyroelectric detector. Based on the measured SF6 gas responses, we try to estimate the lower limit of detection of our gas sensors when using AlN- and ScAlN- based pyroelectric detectors respectively. Response times taken for both detectors to detect SF6 concentrations are measured to be similar to 6.26 s for AlN-based pyroelectric detector and similar to 1.99 s for 12% ScAlN-based pyroelectric detector. Finally, both pyroelectric detectors' electrical responses across different frequencies are measured and their 3-dB frequency cutoffs are extracted to be similar to 13.5 Hz and similar to 12.6 Hz for AlN- and 12% ScAlN- based pyroelectric detector respectively. The results provide more understanding on characteristics of pyroelectric detectors in SF6 greenhouse gas sensing based on mid-IR absorption.

The objective of Image-based Virtual Try-On (VTO) is to effectively superimpose retail clothing items onto a specific individual, creating a seamless integration between the garments and the person. Despite significant advancements in VTO (Virtual Try-On) technology, numerous techniques struggle to maintain semantic integrity, particularly when faced with difficult inputs like complicated human poses and complex clothing designs. The presence of these discrepancies undermines the overall quality of the final visual outputs, hence reducing both the user experience and the effectiveness of the Virtual Try-On (VTO) system. This study provides an in-depth investigation into the enduring problem by utilizing advanced deep learning techniques. In addition to just recognizing the obstacles, this study emphasizes a thorough comprehension derived from extensive literature reviews and practical code experiments. We aim to tackle the significant issue of preserving semantic detail in VTO applications by implementing cutting-edge techniques. This article adopts a future-oriented approach to not only illuminate current constraints but also provide a trajectory for forthcoming initiatives that seek to enhance the virtual retail domain and fully actualize the capabilities of AI-driven fashion technology. © 2023 IEEE.

Edge computing is a growing paradigm where compute resources are provisioned between data sources and the cloud to decrease compute latency from data transfer, lower costs, comply with security policies, and more. Edge systems are as varied as their applications, serving internet services, IoT, and emerging technologies. Due to the tight constraints experienced by many edge systems, research computing testbeds have become valuable tools for edge research and application benchmarking. Current testbed infrastructure, however, fails to properly emulate many important edge contexts leading to inaccurate benchmarking. Institutions with broad interests in edge computing can build testbeds, but prior work suggests that edge testbeds are often application or sensor specific. A general edge testbed should include access to many of the sensors, software, and accelerators on which edge systems rely, while slicing those resources to fit user-defined resource footprints. PROWESS is an edge testbed that answers this challenge. PROWESS provides access across an institution to sensors, compute resources, and software for testing constrained edge applications. PROWESS runs edge workloads as sets of containers with access to sensors and specialized hardware on an expandable cluster of light-weight edge nodes which leverage institutional networks to decrease implementation cost and provide wide access to sensors. We implemented a multi-node PROWESS deployment connected to sensors across Ohio State University's campus. Using three edge-native applications, we demonstrate that PROWESS is simple to configure, has a small resource footprint, scales gracefully, and minimally impacts institutional networks. We also show that PROWESS closely approximates native execution of edge workloads and facilitates experiments that other systems testbeds can not.

With bio-integrated electronics booming, stretchable, elastic, compliance, and biocompatible elastomers attract immense research interest due to their potential to integrate with electronic devices and soft tissues. In this work, a double network skin-like elastomer based on hydrophobic-polyacrylamide/silk fibroin (HSF) is synthesized. The addition of the fibroin in polyacrylamide hydrogel significantly improves its stretchability, resilience, and tear resistance. Specifically, the HSF elastomer demonstrates a tensile strain as high as 1000% with the corresponding tensile stress of 0.27 MPa and great resilience (550 cycles). Based on such HSF, a hybrid mechanoreceptor sensor is fabricated, which can simultaneously implement slow adaptive and fast adaptive pulses like human skin. This device realizes the detection of a variety of human movements such as joint movement, vocalization, or pulse and high-frequency vibration signal recognition, which demonstrates its potential applications in bio-integrated electronics.
