To face both the ageing of power generators and their stress, the inspection of power generators is a critical task necessary to prevent damages and keep the performance and efficiency at their nominal level. In this context, robotic inspection can play a crucial role since it allows a quick and efficient method to acquire data on the status of generators within a short time. This paper describes an innovative robotic system composed of a crawler robot and an automatic positioning system able to move the robot radially along the power generator. Thanks to a novel multi-sensor analysis method, this robotic system can inspect and evaluate the overall status of power generators. The inspection system combines several sensors on board a crawler robot to detect insulation failures, mechanical damages or other defects. This work describes a mechatronic system that can perform a completely automated inspection of power generators. The robotic system is extremely flexible and can be adapted to various power generators.

Object tracking in computer vision can be done either by using a marker-less or marker-based approach. Computer vision systems have been using Fiducial markers for pose estimation in different applications such as augmented reality [5] and robot navigation [4]. With the advancements in Augmented Reality (AR), new tools such as AugmentedReality uco (ArUco) [6] markers have been introduced to the literature. ArUco markers, are used to tackle the localization problem in AR, allowing camera pose estimation to be carried out by a binary matrix. Using a binary matrix not just simplifies the process but also increases the efficiency. As a part of our initiative to create a cost-efficient, 24/7 accessible, Virtual Reality (VR) based chemistry lab for underprivileged students, we wanted to create an alternative way of interacting with the virtual scene. In this study, we used ArUco markers to create a low-cost keyboard only using a piece of paper and an off-the-shelf webcam. We believe this method of keyboard will be more beneficial to the user as they can see the keys before they are typing in the corner of the screen instead of an insufficient on the screen VR keyboard or a regular keyboard where the user can't see what they are typing with a VR headset. As potential extensions of the base system, we have also designed and evaluated a stereo camera and an IMU sensor based system with various sensor fusion techniques. In summary, the stereo camera reduces occlusion related problems, and the IMU sensor detects vibrations which in turn simplifies the KeyPress detection problem. It has been observed that use of any of these additional sensors improves the overall system performance.

Quantum communication, a field of applied quantum physics, is closely tied to quantum teleportation and quantum information processing, with a primary focus on leveraging the laws of quantum mechanics to secure communication systems. An intriguing application within this field is the protection of information channels from unauthorized eavesdropping through the implementation of quantum cryptography. Quantum key distribution (QKD) represents the most advanced and well-known application of quantum cryptography. QKD utilizes quantum mechanical effects for cryptographic tasks and breaking cryptographic systems. This study aims to explore the potential of employing quantum mechanics laws to enhance the security of communication systems. The QKD system operates on a simple principle, where two parties, Alice (the sender) and Bob (the receiver), utilize individual photons randomly polarized to represent bits 0 and 1, respectively. These photons are used to transmit a series of random numbers, serving as cryptographic keys. The parties are connected via classical and quantum channels, with Alice generating a random stream of qubits transmitted through the quantum channel. By performing classical operations over the classical channel, Alice and Bob verify if any eavesdropping attempts have occurred during qubit transfer. The presence of an eavesdropper is identified through the imperfect correlation between the two sets of bits obtained after qubit transmission. A vital aspect of robust encryption schemes is the utilization of true randomness, which can be easily generated using quantum optics. Quantum communication holds promising applications in diverse sectors, including banking, government, industry, and military domains. This research seeks to investigate the possibilities of leveraging quantum mechanics laws to fortify communication systems' security.

This paper reports a visual-tactile coupling mechanism sensor for force calibration in real time through integrating high sensitivity piezoresistive thin film sensor and high resolution visual-tactile sensing. The elastic layer combined with dispensing-printed flexible electrodes forms piezoresistive sensing units. It employs the spatial weighted fusion algorithm to couple displacement of markers as weights with forces measured by the piezoresistive sensing units. High resolution and improved measurement accuracy at small forces are realized, and the coefficient of variation of measured force is reduced, which contributes to enhancing reliability. The sensor will be served as a reliable data source for future human-machine interaction applications.

The iodine sulfur cycle, which is used for hydrogen production, requires materials that can withstand the corrosive properties of sulfuric acid at high temperatures. To address this, researchers explored the use of a silicon carbide (SiC) coating on Hastelloy x (Hx) through a wet chemistry process. This coating method was considered a cost-effective alternative to physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings. The researchers conducted immersion tests on the coated specimens and compared them with bare and PVD-coated samples in previous studies. The results showed that the SiC-coated Hx exhibited the best corrosion resistance among the different samples when exposed to 98 wt% sulfuric acid at a temperature of 120.. The presence of the SiC coating on the sample was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the morphology of the coated sample was examined using an optical microscope. The images obtained from the microscope analysis showed no changes in the sample's morphology after the corrosion testing. Further structural analysis of the coated samples revealed the presence of SiC-SiO2 after annealing. The presence of silicon dioxide (SiO2) contributed to the improved corrosion resistance of the coated sample.

This paper presents the design and fabrication of two wearable chipless RFID tag antennas with unique identification codes 10101 and 11111. Each antenna utilizes a circular patch with a split ring resonator, where a specific number and arrangement of slots enable distinct tag identification. Shieldit Super fabric is employed as the radiating element, with felt material serving as the substrate. The antennas operate across a frequency range of 1-3 GHz, and bending analysis indicates reliable performance up to a 60° bend along both x- and Y-axes. Experimental tests on the fabricated antennas revealed sensitivity to environmental factors, with noticeable changes in S11 as temperature varied, highlighting the antenna's responsiveness to thermal fluctuations. These findings support the potential of these designs for robust, flexible, and responsive wearable RFID applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Bioelectronics is an emerging research area where human-made electronic systems interface, bidirectionally, with the electrical systems present in biology. Flexible electronics are a critical development for bioelectronic systems which can flex and stretch with the body. Printing based manufacturing approaches have been heavily investigated in recent years for creating bioelectronic systems, as screen printing can potentially provide scaled-up roll-to-roll based manufacturing while 3D and inkjet printing can potentially provide opportunities for personalisation. This paper presents a brief narrative review bioelectronics, the materials challenges in flexible sensors, circuits, and systems for bioelectronic interfacing, and examples of our approaches to tackling these challenges.

Extraction of Point-of-Interest in Multispectral Images for Face Recognition

Security systems in companies, airports, enterprises, etc. face numerous challenges. Among the major ones there is objects or face recognition. The problem with the robustness of recognition systems that usually affects color images nowadays can be addressed by multispectral image acquisition in the near infrared range with cameras equipped with new high performance sensors able to take images in dark or uncontrolled environments with much more accuracy. Multispectral CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semi-conductor) sensors in a single shot record several wavelengths that are isolated and allow very specific analyses. They are equipped with new acquisition methods and provide observations that are more accurate. The current generation of these imaging sensors involve scientific and technical interest because they provide much more information than those that operate in visible range;precise nature and spatiotemporal evolution of the areas need to be analyzed. In this study, multispectral images acquired by camera equipped with a hybrid sensor operating in near infrared has been used. This camera is built in the ImViA laboratory of the University of Bourgogne as part of the European project ExIST (Extended Image Sensing Technologies). The process involved in image acquisition, image mosaicing and image demosaicing by using mosaic filters. After acquisition process the interest points be extract in these bands of images in order to know how information is shared out all over the bands. The results were satisfactory because information is spread all over the images bands and the algorithms used also have detected many interest points. Based on the results, a large database can be set up for a face recognition system building.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) based on Long-Range Wide Area Networks (LoRaWAN) are being used in various applications. In WSNs, in addition to periodic packet transmission, sensor nodes transmit packets when they detect an event. This action enables real-time information aggregation. When multiple sensor nodes detect an event at the same time, they send signals simultaneously, which may result in signal collisions at the receiver. This paper proposes a symbol detection method that allows information aggregation even when receiving superimposed chirp signals. Furthermore, this paper introduces an event source estimation method as a use case for collecting aggregate correlated information. Computer simulations show that the proposed method increases the probability of achieving the absolute source estimation error of 10 [deg.] by 11 points compared to conventional methods.
