Strain sensor is a type of sensor that is used to measure the strain or deformation applied to an object. These sensors are widely used in engineering, scientific and industrial applications to monitor and record the deformation of an object to provide information about the forces applied. Motion Capture is a technology used to capture and record human movements, postures and actions and convert them into digital data. This technology plays a key role in industries such as gaming, movies and robotics. In recent years with the growth of these industries, there has been an increasing demand for lightweight and accurate motion capture devices, which have made wearable strain sensors for motion, capture a popular research area. This review explores wearable strain sensors for motion capture by delving into their classification and the underlying working principles. Furthermore, it will offer comprehensive insights into the primary sensing materials employed in motion capture strain sensors, coupled with a thorough analysis of the structural design aspects. Finally, a reasonable conclusion is achieved: While this type of sensors has gained significant momentum in recent years, several critical shortcomings prevent their practical application and commercialization, which are expected to be overcome soon. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

New technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Wireless sensor Networks pose unique challenges due to their limited power and real-time demands. Among these challenges, ensuring efficient and low-latency encryption systems is paramount. To address these challenges, lightweight encryption algorithms like LED cipher have emerged in recent years. LED offers a promising balance between efficiency and security, making it ideal for securing IoT devices. In the present work, we present two distinct hardware architectures for the LED block cipher tailored for devices with limited resources, employing a 32-bit data path. These architectures aim to optimize performance and resource utilization while maintaining robust security. The iterative architecture offers parallel processing for faster encryption/decryption but requires higher hardware resources, while the serial architecture sequentially performs operations to minimize resource consumption. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the suggested hardware architectures, highlighting low latency and high throughput compared to existing hardware implementations of various block ciphers. Our findings indicate that both architectures provide efficient solutions for implementing the LED algorithm in resource-constrained environments.

Laser beam shaping problem remains relevant for various applications of modern laser physics - from laser cutting of metals to wireless long-distance energy transmission. For example, the transformation of the original Gaussian profile into flat-top profile is necessary to improve the technology (material processing, holograms recording) while the doughnut-like profile ensures uniform temperature distribution on a target and increases the stability of various thermal processes, such as melting. To solve this problem the automated adaptive optical system with phase-only special light modulator and intensity analyzer are assembled and tested. The experimental results of the flat-top and doughnut-like intensity distributions formation are presented. We were able to concentrate similar to 60% and 75% of the initial beam energy for the doughnut-like and flat-top intensity distributions, correspondingly.

Wireless sensor Networks using Wake-up Radios (WURs) in dense deployments benefit from addressing at WUR-level. Many semi-active WURs rely on a simple frontend that is able to wake-up the back-end circuits in a relatively short time. However, once woken-up the design of these frontends prevents a quick consecutive receiving of Wake-up Calls (WUCs). So, whenever a non-matching address is received by the address decoder, it takes quite a while until a new address can be decoded. In this paper, we demonstrate how a significant increase in WUC frequency can be achieved with relatively simple adaptations to the WUR front-end. The dimensioning of the individual components is also considered and derived. In the respective evaluation, we show that by means of our adaptation, consecutive WUCs can be handled approximately 1000 times faster than without this adaptation. © 2023 IEEE.

Multiple Noncooperative Targets Encirclement by Relative Distance-Based Positioning and Neural Antisynchronization Control

From prehistoric encirclement for hunting to GPS orbiting the earth for positioning, target encirclement has numerous real-world applications. However, encircling multiple noncooperative targets in GPS-denied environments remains challenging. In this work, multiple targets' encirclement by using a minimum of two tasking agents is considered where the relative distance measurements between the agents and the targets can be obtained by using onboard sensors. Based on the measurements, the center of all the targets is estimated directly by a fuzzy wavelet neural network and the least squares fit method. Then, a new distributed antisynchronization controller is designed so that the two tasking agents are able to encircle all targets while staying opposite to each other. In particular, the radius of the desired encirclement trajectory can be dynamically determined to avoid potential collisions between the two agents and all targets. Based on the Lyapunov stability analysis method, the convergence proofs of the neural network prediction error, the target-center position estimation error, and the controller error are addressed, respectively. Finally, both numerical simulations and UAV flight experiments are conducted to demonstrate the validity of the encirclement algorithms.

The transformative advancements in transportation technology have brought forth electric and aerial vehicles (EnAVs) as revolutionizing modes of mobility. However, amidst the transformative potential of these vehicles, novel security challenges have emerged, demanding innovative solutions. This review paper delves into the critical intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and transportation security, with a focus on EnAVs. It meticulously examines the evolving threat landscape within transportation technology and sheds light on the vulnerabilities inherent in these advanced vehicles. AI is positioned as a promising approach to address these challenges. This paper comprehensively explores the role of AI in enhancing security, encompassing image and video analysis for vehicle surveillance, natural language processing for cybersecurity, and reinforcement learning for decision-making and control. Additionally, it presents real-world applications of AI techniques, including intrusion detection, object tracking, sensor fusion, and predictive maintenance. Peering into the future, this review discusses the prospective horizons of AI in transportation security, including its integration with autonomous vehicles and the potential ramifications of quantum computing. By critically examining existing research, identifying gaps, and proposing directions for future exploration, this paper contributes to a holistic understanding of how AI can fortify the security of EnAVs, thus paving the way for safer and more resilient transportation systems.

The escalating demand for advanced wearable technology necessitates the seamless integration of communication systems into daily life. This paper discusses the creation and assessment of a high-performance multiband wearable antenna designed for advanced wireless systems and future wearable applications. The proposed antenna, with dimensions of 47 x 30 x 1.5 mm3, operates across an extensive frequency range of 2.35-3.57 GHz and 4.97-10.45 GHz. Through numerous design iterations, significant improvements have been made in critical performance metrics, including a peak gain of 6.5 dB, impedance bandwidths of 41.22% and 71.10%, and radiation efficiency exceeding 70%. The specific absorption rate (SAR) is maintained at a safe level of 0.45 W/ kg. Thorough testing under bending conditions and in close proximity to the human body confirmed the resilience and effectiveness of the antenna in practical situations. A comparative analysis reveals that the proposed antenna outperforms existing designs in terms of size, frequency coverage, gain, SAR, and efficiency, making it a superior option for modern wearable wireless communication devices. © 2024 IEEE.

Improved scene perception makes the safe driving of automotive vehicles (AVs) feasible. The most common automotive sensors for AV perception for detection, classification, a nd t racking a re t he Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR), radar, and camera sensors. The most reliable sensors for determining range are LiDAR and radar. In this research, we consider the referencing from the camera-based object recognition to fuse the LiDAR and radar point cloud data. To minimize any unintended effects from sensor orientation and sampling time, all three sensors are installed, calibrated, and time-aligned for this experiment. Subsequently, the obtained camera sensor data is subjected to object detection using a MobileNet-based deep neural network (DNN). The radar and LiDAR point cloud data are projected with the two-dimensional bounding box width, length, and height used for object recognition. Following that, the range information from the radar and LiDAR is retrieved and combined using a weighted average fusion algorithm. This experiment is run on the ROS platform, using AWR1642 radar sensor and RealSense LiDAR camera L515 sensor. The object detection from the camera and conducting fusion on the radar and LiDAR sensor is a potential algorithm for the advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) emergency brake assistant (EBA) function. © 2024 IEEE.

Targeting systems are subject to multiple sources of error when operating in complex environments. To reduce the effect of these errors, modern targeting systems generally include both imaging and RF sensors. Data processing then provides target detection and classification information, and the detection streams are combined using a data fusion scheme to produce an optimal target location estimate with an associated latency. In this paper, the performance of a multi- sensor system in a maritime application is investigated using a mathematical simulator that has been developed to provide the system performance error analysis for different engagement scenarios and test conditions. This simulator is described together with the sources of targeting error such as image motion blur and radar glint. Additionally, the impact of flare and chaff countermeasures on the targeting performance is reviewed in terms of different types of target recognition and tracking algorithms.

The advancement of Earth observation satellite research in past decades has demonstrated itself to be productive and increasingly important. Utilized for applications such as climate monitoring, communication, GPS, defense, and space research, our dependence on reliable satellite systems is ever-increasing. The success of satellites in these scenarios is fundamentally the result of its attitude determination system, consisting of control and estimation subsystems, which govern its sensors and actuators. For simple missions, attitude pose determination can be computed onboard the satellite. Typically, however, ground stations or other satellites (i.e. constellations) are involved in a satellite's operation, processing large amounts of data or complex control algorithms. This information and control cycle is enabled through the application of Networked Control systems (NCS). The NCS uses a wireless network or communication system as the intermediate line of communication between plant, actuators, sensors, and other systems. This enables relatively fast communication and data transmittance over long distances, as well as the decentralization of navigation and control through system distribution. However, this method is vulnerable to various forms of time delay and packet loss, which ultimately affects the control performance of a satellite. It is demonstrated in literature that the effects of these NCS properties can be mitigated, increasing its viability, through various implementations of smart systems into the satellite framework. Using techniques such as neural networks and reinforcement learning, the satellite can perceive and act based on environmental information, while considering experiential memory and attention allocation. The following comprehensive survey discusses methods for improving the robustness of networked satellite systems from a smart systems perspective, providing an advanced foundation for these concepts.
