Rotational inertial navigation system (RINS) can improve navigation accuracy and has become a standard navigation equipment on ships. In practice, multiple systems are often redundantly configured to improve reliability, which provides the basis for fault diagnosis. This paper proposes a robust fault diagnosis method based on adaptive filter for redundant single-axis RINSs. The optimized dynamic model based on geometric constraint is deduced. On this basis, an on-line monitoring method for inertial sensor biases using strong tracking filter (STF) is presented. Based on the diagnosis filter outputs, the fault diagnosis parameters are constructed using a modified Bayesian algorithm, and fault diagnosis criteria are given. In addition, for the case where the fault occurs in the azimuth gyro, a second stage fault diagnosis algorithm based on least squares is proposed. Simulations show the proposed method works well. © 2024 SPIE.

As bridge infrastructure ages and load increases, Bridge Health Monitoring systems (BHMS) have become increasingly important. sensors play a crucial role in BHMS, but sensor failures may result in inaccurate data, thereby reducing the reliability of the monitoring system. Due to the interference from the vehicles on the bridge, current bridge sensor fault detection algorithms cannot detect the faults of sensors accurately. To tackle this challenge, we combine the advanced State Space Model (SSM, known as Mamba) with Transformer and propose a novel bridge sensor fault diagnosis method MSMV-MT. Firstly, MSMV-MT samples the sensor sequences at different scales and adopts Past Decomposable Mixing (PDM) for multi-scale fusion to capture at different-scaled features. MT block is constructed by replacing the Multi-head Attention with bidirectional Mamba in Transformer. We introduced a Full Sequence Channel Attention (FSCA) mechanism in the MT block to weight the attention of sequences of different channels and perform multi-view fusion with Self-Attention, thereby enhancing the accuracy and robustness of fault diagnosis. We constructed a simulation dataset with collected bridge sensor data and conducted experimental analysis. The experimental results show that the MSMV-MT outperforms all compared algorithms and achieves the highest accuracy of 92.7% on the bridge sensor fault diagnosis dataset. Comprehensive comparative experiments and ablation analysis have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. © 2024 SPIE.

Data-driven fault diagnostics and failure prediction in the industry are dominated by numerical data from sensors. Other data, such as inspection notes, are often discarded due to complexity in feature extraction, fluctuations in information quality, and subjectivity due to human factors. However, for systems where degradation evolves slowly, these data could offer critical insight into the fault diagnostic process. Particularly in the task of quantifying the degradation level of inspected components, the observations made by technicians could hold critical information. Extracting useful information from text data has long remained a challenging task, especially with industrial reports. Therefore, this study presents a method utilizing large language models (LLMs) for extracting machine degradation information from brief on-site technician inspection notes. Industrial proprietary texts serve as background knowledge, with LLMs acting as the embedding medium. The proposed method's performance is investigated through a real industrial case study, where identification of machine degradation level is enhanced using text data and domain knowledge.

In this work we will cover the basic considerations of incoherent combination of fiber laser systems and, in particular of multicore fibers, since these are ideal sources for this type of combination. Our analysis will have a special emphasis on what separates incoherent combination from its coherent counterparts. Additionally, we will discuss the scalability of the beam quality with the number and arrangement of the cores in a MCF, and we will compare the incoherently combined emission from a multicore fiber with that of a multimode fiber.

This study presents the development and evaluation of a smart wearable belt designed for comprehensive health monitoring and fall detection. The wearable integrates advanced sensors, including vibration and heartbeat, to give users real-time insights into their well-being. The vibration sensor, meticulously calibrated for precise fall detection, exhibited high sensitivity and responsiveness, distinguishing between daily activities and potential accidents. Simultaneously, the heartbeat sensor demonstrated accurate and consistent heart rate monitoring, contributing to proactive cardiovascular health management. The seamless integration of these sensors, supported by MQTT connectivity and secure data transmission, ensures a user-friendly experience. Cloud integration enhances data processing and analytics, empowering users with a comprehensive health dashboard. This intelligent wearable belt represents a promising advancement in health technology, offering a holistic solution for users seeking real-time health insights and proactive fall prevention. Integrity of a train is a significant characteristic parameter towards a railway train control system in order to guarantee the railway operational safety. The decoupling event between a locomotive and a carriage or two adjacent carriages has become a serious threat for the following train operating along the same track. Conventional train integrity monitoring solutions based on state detection with specific sensors, like the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver and tail wind pressure unit, may not perform effectively and safely under constrained or difficult operation environments. This paper presents a Train Integrity Monitoring System (TIMS) architecture with integration of GNSS, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Ultra-wide Band (UWB) ranging technique. To realize the effective determination of the train integrity state with multiple detection channels, the fuzzy reasoning theory is adopted for decision-making. By using the simulated Head-of-Train (HoT) and End-of-Train (EoT) platforms, both the normal and decoupling scenarios are investigated through experiments. With the practically collected sensor datasets, the different single-sensor-based methods are compared with the presented fuzzy reasoning-based solution. The comparison results illustrate the advanced performance level under the given experimental conditions, which indicate great potentials of the presented solution in novel train control systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomous exploration of unknown environments is fundamentally a problem of decision making under uncertainty where the agent must account for uncertainty in sensor measurements, localization, action execution, as well as many other factors. For large-scale exploration applications, autonomous systems must overcome the challenges of sequentially deciding which areas of the environment are valuable to explore while safely evaluating the risks associated with obstacles and hazardous terrain. In this work, we propose a risk-aware meta-level decision making framework to balance the tradeoffs associated with local and global exploration. Meta-level decision making builds upon classical hierarchical coverage planners by switching between local and global policies with the overall objective of selecting the policy that is most likely to maximize reward in a stochastic environment. We use information about the environment history, traversability risk, and kinodynamic constraints to reason about the probability of successful policy execution to switch between local and global policies. We have validated our solution in both simulation and on a variety of large-scale real world hardware tests. Our results show that by balancing local and global exploration we are able to significantly explore large-scale environments more efficiently.

Smart mobility is a crucial aspect of smart cities, and its performance can be further improved by exploiting Vehicle-to-Everything (V2x) communication available on advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles. V2x communication has the potential to improve traffic in smart cities drastically, but it plays a crucial role in terms of safety and the environment. The V2x communication can be completely impaired due to cyberattacks, including radio jamming, where the electromagnetic spectrum is interfered or blocked. In this paper, we propose three frameworks to deal with radio jamming in V2x applications. First, we present a batch framework, then a recursive framework, and finally, a subspace tracking framework. We validate the proposed frameworks considering the left turn assist driving use case, and we compare their performances.

Health and activity monitoring can now be done remotely using sensor networks attached to the wearer's body. Consequently, body-wearable sensor networks provide for a customized approach to health and fitness. The spread of the wearable gadgets increases the variety of their applications. There are numerous technologies that enable the capture of movement;among them, accelerometers are the most frequently cited by researchers. In this paper, a novel micromachined MEMS tri-axis accelerometer device is proposed with two sensing principles which can simultaneously measure acceleration inputs along x, Y and Z directions is proposed. The proposed MEMS accelerometer utilizes capacitive plates and a diaphragm to sense acceleration inputs along x and Y directions and piezoresistive effect to sense acceleration along Z axis. The working principle and sensor features like range, sensitivity, frequency response of the three-axis MEMS accelerometer are analyzed. Accelerometers have been used in biomedical applications such as human motion analysis, motion detection vibration, and impact studies. COMSOL Multiphysics simulation software is used for modeling and analysis of novel MEMS accelerometer. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces a glass-based phased array antenna specifically designed for 5G millimeter-wave (mm-wave) antenna-in-package (AiP) applications. Leveraging the advanced glass integrated passive device (Glass-IPD) manufacturing process, a broadband L-shaped probe-fed magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna is designed. To suppress higher-order modes and achieve stable radiation patterns with optimal gain at higher frequencies, the four corners of the square patches adjacent to the L-probe are trimmed. The antenna element boasts a compact size of 2.5mm x 2.5mm x 0.5mm, equivalent to 0.32 lambda x 0.32 lambda x 0.065 lambda at 39 GHz. Simulation results reveal that this antenna element possesses a 10 dB impedance bandwidth spanning 36 similar to 45GHz, comprehensively covering the 5G n259 (39.5 similar to 43.5GHz) and n260 (37 similar to 40GHz) bands. Across the entire frequency band, the antenna element's gain exceeds 6dBi, peaking at 6.5dBi at 39GHz. When configured into a 1x4 antenna array, the gain increases to 11.6 dBi at broadside and 9.6 dBi when the beam is steered at a 46-degree angle. The proposed antenna, which is based on glass material, offers a compact design, a broad operating frequency range, and excellent radiation characteristics. These features make it an appealing choice for 5G millimeter-wave applications.
