In this paper, we present a new dual-configuration antenna designed to meet the demands of 5G applications. This antenna is based on a square shape, with multiband and various frequencies, and multiple slots with dimensions of 37.4mm x 39.4mm x 1.6mm. It has a low reflection coefficient (S 11 ≤-15dB, making it suitable for multi-band applications. The square shape was transformed into a four-port MIMO antenna, which provides good performance for 5G applications with adequate bandwidth for increased data rates and reduced antenna size. The MIMO antenna was implemented on the Roger RT5880 dielectric with a size of 80mm x 80mm x 1.6mm. It offers fewer return losses, high efficiency, and high radiation pattern coverage, covering the bands of 2.57 GHz, 2.89 GHz, 3.27 GHz, 3.92 GHz, 5.05 GHz, 5.53 GHz, and 6.09 GHz. The antenna design was developed using the CST software 2021, and the prototypes were measured by a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). Both the simulation results and the measurement results have been met. © 2023 IEEE.

The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) with 6G networks promises a huge potential for improvised industrial communication. A large number of low-power communication technologies is expected to be part of 6 G in industrial IoT for data collection, forwarding, and actuation. Industrial IoT (IIOT) requires deterministic network services, which can meet the demand for real-time services. Edge-based solutions can help 6G networks meet the requirements of real-time services demanding lower latency. This work aims to address such real-time demands with efficient use of radio resources using 6TiSCH (IPv6 over Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) mode). In this paper, we propose an edge-based downlink scheduling scheme for the 6TiSCH-based IIoT network named EDSN. EDSN leverages a computation and communication model using edge computing and 6TiSCH scheduling to minimize the overall network latency for downlink data traffic. It schedules actuation (downlink) signals based on the criticality of the received sensor data and the location of the actuators. EDSN analyzes traffic at the edge nodes and allocates a suitable downlink schedule to meet the application requirements of the edge controller. The scheme offers a fair mechanism for provisioning timely schedules for low-priority packets and significantly reduces downlink action times compared to the state-of-the-art. Our experimental results demonstrate that EDSN can effectively reduce response times and improve packet delivery ratios for priority traffic, making it a promising solution for IIoT applications that require low response times and reliable packet delivery. © 2024 IEEE.

Intelligent Real-Time Air Quality Index Classification for Smart Home Digital Twins

This paper investigates the application of machine learning and deep learning models for intelligent real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) classification within a smart home digital twin context. Leveraging sensor data encompassing CO2 and TVOC levels, we perform a comparative analysis of eight models: Transformer Neural Network (TNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting (GB), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). These models aim to accurately classify air quality into six categories corresponding to AQI levels, ranging from Good to Hazardous, which are critical for assessing health risks. The performance of each model is rigorously evaluated using metrics including accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC curves. Our findings demonstrate that the implemented models exhibit strong performance. This high-accuracy classification enables the smart home digital twin to move beyond passive monitoring, enabling proactive environmental control. For instance, the digital twin can use this real-time AQI classification to automatically adjust HVAC systems, trigger air purifiers when indoor air quality degrades, and potentially inform occupancy schedules. This integration allows for intelligent, adaptive management of the home's environment, ensuring optimal indoor air quality and occupant well-being. The paper also discusses the limitations of each model and suitable application scenarios for intelligent AQI management within the digital twin framework, offering valuable insights for the selection of appropriate air quality classification models in smart home environments.

A well-known advanced driver assistance technology that can be employed for that is the Adaptive Cruise Control System (ACC). Cars equipped with ACC system are to control the car speed to follow a driver's set speed closely when there is no leading car. When a slower leading car is present based on distance sensor, the ACC controlled car are able to keep desired distance with respect to the position and velocity of the car in front. This paper presents a design methodology of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system for two smart car platform consist of the leading smart car and a host smart car move on a single lane on a laboratory installation. RST algorithm in the multi algorithms structure is proposed to design in real-time architecture for ACC system. RST algorithm is one of the most effective solutions for the real-time control of nonlinear systems or working regimes. The results of the experiment have been conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we review the research and development of the fractal superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), including our demonstrations of high-performance devices and systems with over 80% system detection efficiency, negligibly low residual polarization sensitivity, and low timing jitter. Using the fractal SNSPDs, we demonstrate full-Stokes polarimetric imaging LiDAR.

This work presents the development and experimental validation of an ultrasound piezoelectric sensor for thermoacoustic imaging that exploits printed circuit boards technology to define with high precision the sensor active area while minimizing manufacturing complexity and cost. A prototype single-channel sensor with 4x4 mm active area has been manufactured and experimentally validated in electrical and acoustic testbenches.

Millimeter-wave radar has been a crucial component in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), overcoming the limitations of cameras and LiDARs under adverse weather conditions [1], [2]. As ADAS applications advance to higher levels of autonomous driving, there are more stringent requirements for radar sensors in terms of maximum detection range, range resolution and angular resolution. Long-range radar (LRR) needs a longer detection range within a narrow beam, while medium-range radar (MRR) and short-range radar (SRR) require a broader field of view (FoV) and more precise range and angle resolution capabilities. Current MIMO and RF phased-array architectures shown in Fig. 10.1.1 (top) have difficulty achieving optimal performance over the above three modes, simultaneously. For instance, [3] achieves a long-range detection of 250m, while its 15cm range-resolution limits SRR applications. [4] adopts a MIMO architecture, achieving a range resolution of 2.1 cm and a maximum detection range of 38.5m, which is only suitable for SRR applications. This paper presents a fully integrated 77GHz 8Tx/2x4Rx hybrid TDMA-MIMO phased-array FMCW radar, which supports all three detection modes of LRR/MRR/SRR using different chirp profiles. © 2025 IEEE.

Multicore Fibers (MCF), the integrated alternative to spatially separated amplification in fibers, are a promising laser architecture thanks to their capability to deliver high pulse energy and average power in a compact format. The introduction of 7x7 MCF laser systems represents a significant advancement of this technology, bringing us closer to realizing multi-kilowatt and J-class fiber laser amplifiers. In this context, Ytterbium-doped MCFs have already demonstrated power scalability proportional to the number of amplifying cores. Using 4x4 MCFs already showcases high pulse energy and high average power and, if coherently combined, offers nearly diffraction-limited beam quality. This work complements the Coherent Beam Combination (CBC) testbed by Incoherent Beam Combination (IBC). IBC emerges as a straightforward and robust solution, providing the opportunity to achieve performance capabilities equivalent to Multimode Fibers (MMFs) while demonstrating a better beam quality. These IBC systems are appealing for various applications, including pumping solid-state lasers and incoherent frequency conversion towards shorter wavelengths, e.g., to the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) or soft-xray through laser-produced plasma sources.

In this work, we present a modular acquisition platform for biasing and reading 2D crossbar resistive sensor arrays in either DC or AC mode based on the Zero Potential Method (ZPM). We also validate its scalability for arbitrary array dimensions with a minimum number of connections and array bond pads. The platform uses a new technique that compensates for the non-informative sensor bias component and allows the readout of sensor arrays with a wide range of nominal resistances. The platform is able to read up to 256 sensors in different array configurations and up to 4 sensors simultaneously. The platform's functionality is demonstrated using a 4 x 4 resistive array both in DC and AC mode. Such capabilities can be employed in a range of applications like Micro Total Analysis systems (mu TAS) devices, memristive reading and writing for neuromorphic systems, robotics sensing, or any other application based on crossbar resistive sensor matrices.
