In this work, we propose an open-source scalable end-to-end RTL framework FieldHAR, for complex human activity recognition (HAR) from heterogeneous sensors using artificial neural networks (ANN) optimized for FPGA or ASIC integration. FieldHAR aims to address the lack of apparatus to transform complex HAR methodologies often limited to offline evaluation to efficient run-time edge applications. The framework uses parallel sensor interfaces and integer-based multi-branch convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to support flexible modality extensions with synchronous sampling at the maximum rate of each sensor. To validate the framework, we used a sensor-rich kitchen scenario HAR application which was demonstrated in a previous offline study. Through resource-aware optimizations, with FieldHAR the entire RTL solution was created from data acquisition to ANN inference taking as low as 25% logic elements and 2% memory bits of a low-end Cyclone IV FPGA and less than 1% accuracy loss from the original FP32 precision offline study. The RTL implementation also shows advantages over MCU-based solutions, including superior data acquisition performance and virtually eliminating ANN inference bottleneck.

Magnetic sensitive material, giant magnetostrictive powder composite (GMPC), coated fiber bragg grating (FBG) cascaded extrinsic Fabry Perot interferometer (EFPI) multi-parameter optical fiber sensor is proposed. Which enables the simultaneous detection of temperature, magnetic field and strain. The proposed sensor uses a double FBG cascade EFPI structure including GMPC coated FBG with a wavelength of 1550 nm to achieve magnetic field sensing. The results show that the sensor has a maximum temperature sensitivity of 175.4 pm/degrees C, a maximum magnetic field sensitivity of -1.54 pm/mT and a maximum stress sensitivity of -9.55 pm/mu epsilon. The proposed multi-parameter optical fiber sensor solves the multi-parameter cross-sensitivity problem, while the sensor has the characteristics of low cost, interference resistance, compact structure, simple preparation process and long distance transmission. The sensor has promising applications in areas such as biomedicine, environmental detection and military applications, and oil well survey, industrial production, power systems and so on.

This paper presents a humidity sensor consisting of a two-port piezoelectric bulk wave resonator and a uniform layer of graphene oxide (GO) film, aiming for the applications of human-machine interaction. With the help of the hydrophilic GO film, the sensor possesses high sensitivity (195 Hz/%RH with an operating frequency of 10.5 MHz) and low hysteresis (less than 3%RH) to environmental humidity changes. Meanwhile, the humidity response of the sensor is rapid, highly repeatable and stable, which endows the sensor a fast and accurate response to the approach of a human finger. Moreover, by leveraging the different reactions of the sensor to the finger approaching and staying for various lengths of time, the noncontact information input can be realized in the form of Morse code.

Laser-induced hyperthermia (LH) is a treatment technique researched in multiple medical applications, including the treatment of warts and malignant tumors. Optimal laser energy delivery to target tissue is important to achieve an effective LH with minimal damage to healthy tissue. However, this can be challenging because optical properties may vary depending on tissue type and environmental factors. Therefore, real-time measurement of temperature is as important as dosimetry for a successful and safe LH application. In addition, the temperature measurement must be non-contact to minimize the risk of microbial contamination. In this study, we developed a temperature-controlled 808 nm diode-laser system that eliminates the risk of thermal damage and contamination by performing non-contact, real-time temperature measurements of the irradiated surface. The system is composed of an 808 nm c-mount diode laser, an infrared (IR) array sensor for temperature measurement, a PC, and an electronic control unit (ECU). The system was tested on phantoms and ex vivo tissues. According to the results, the temperature-controlled 808 nm diode-laser system could maintain the surface temperature of samples at the target temperature value.

This research proposes an environmentally friendly power-based micro-grid management system for successfully utilizing environmentally friendly power and thereby reducing energy consumption from the force network. Renewable energy sources such as lunar energy from Photovoltaic (PV) cells and wind energy from wind energy conversion systems may be used to power the system more resourcefully during periods of inactivity by store this power in batteries. The stored energy may be used to manage the base load, such as the fan and light, through Light Depending Resistor (LDR) and Passive Infrared sensor (PIR). advanced Internet of Things (IoT) technology may be used to manage a schedulable load based on the buyer's requirements. This is demonstrated by comparing the energy use of two modes of operations i.e. Conventional and Autonomous. In this study, Fuzzy Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is proposed using MATLAB for micro-grid management system. Thus, we obtained a framework with increased efficacy and a reduction in overall energy costs as a result of optimal booking and energy management. © 2023 IEEE.

The automotive industry is seen to be making a transformation from manual to semi-autonomous to fully autonomous vehicles. advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) forms a major building block for the next generation of highly Autonomous Vehicles. ADAS is among the fastest-growing segments in automotive electronics and includes large number of applications like Antilock braking system, automatic speed control, Parking assistance system, lane keeping assist etc. Parking assistant system supports several functionalities like Parking line detection, object detection, pedestrian classification, parking support functions etc. These functions are mainly implemented using Surround View Camera System (SVCS) which provides real-time view of the area surrounding the car. Parking Shield System (PSS) is one such parking support function which works with the help of SVCS. PSS is used as an aid to identify the damage caused to the parked vehicle. This work proposes a prototype development for PSS using Raspberry Pi. Acceleration sensor is used to detect the movement of the vehicle and once the vehicle movement is detected, LEDs glow (indicating opening of flaps and mirrors). Immediately, USB Camera connected to Raspberry Pi captures the image and is displayed in VNC Viewer window. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In this paper, visual experiments were carried out to study the NaCl crystallization process in acoustically levitated droplets. Image processing was employed to acquire the evaporation rate of the droplets and PIV analysis was used to characterize the flow filed. Effects of droplet size and initial NaCl concentration were investigated, and the crystallization behaviors in the levitated droplet and surface droplet were compared. The results indicate that the acoustic filed introduced a forced convection of fluid within the levitated droplets, influencing the evaporation rate, supersaturation degree and the morphology of the crystal product. The obtained mechanism is important to the application of acoustically levitated droplet and can be further applied to other crystallization research based on the acoustic levitation systems. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. The rapid distribution and installation of software patches has been adopted as a best practice for protecting conventional systems against cyber attacks. Critical infrastructure operators have been slower to adopt this practice. Multiple barriers make it challenging to validate and deploy software patches on critical infrastructure systems. In some cases, the software update process itself has been used as a means of distributing malicious software. advanced methods such as The Update Framework (TUF) have been developed to mitigate many of the threats. This paper proposes an extension to TUF that addresses the specific role of risk-based deployment decisions required for use on industrial control systems.

Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) has been one of the most prominent WSN technologies over the last many decades. Researchers have developed several clustering protocol variants of the DSR protocol based on diverse application circumstances. However, existing clustering protocols often involve sensor nodes expending a great deal of energy propagating messages on a wide scale in order to build clusters and find the best path between clusters. The majority of sensor nodes in WSN s rely on low-power batteries, which severely hampers the network's performance, reliability, and durability. This led to the development of several clustering techniques that aim to improve WSN energy efficiency. With the advent of Fifth Generation transmissions, several Internet of Things applications have begun to use Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) multiple antennas in order to increase capacity in multipath spectrum environments. In this paper, we provide Enhanced Node Energy and Lifetime Improvement Protocol, a novel cluster-assisted routing protocol designed to improve Wireless sensor Networks' energy efficiency. All four sections of the proposed ENELIP must be read in order. Partitioning a large-scale WSN to smaller sub-networks using a size-balanced approach is the first step in using 5G infrastructure. Second, minimization of energy consumption during centralized sub-network information maintenance is the goal of an estimation-based technique. The third step is to reduce the massive amount of energy needed to cluster nodes worldwide by implementing centralized query-driven clustering algorithms in each sub-network to group the query targets. Finally, a system is created for inter-cluster routing that is multi-sub networked, energy-efficient, and load-balanced. After conducting extensive research, it was shown that ENELIP outperforms other WSN protocols in terms of energy efficiency, resulting in an increase in the network lifetime. © 2024 IEEE.

This review highlights ESPAR technology's space in advancing wireless communication systems through a comprehensive analysis, offering insights into its potential to reshape connectivity in an increasingly interconnected world. © 2024 IEEE.
