Electrochemically Deposited Cu(II)/Cu(I) Oxide Heterostructure as Highly Sensitive Platform for Electrochemical Detection of Glucose and Methanol

Detection of glucose level and in human body is very essential in many ways. Besides glucose, methanol also plays crucial role in human physiology as it can influence human nervous system. So, detection of any imbalance in methanol level is also crucial. For this purpose, in this work, CuO/Cu2O bulk heterostructures were electrochemically deposited in the form of thin films on ITO-coated glass substrates using cyclic voltammetry and amperometrically. The deposited films were characterized using x-ray diffraction technique (xRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The electrochemical attributes of the deposited films towards glucose and methanol sensing were studied through cyclic voltammetry (CV), amperometric i-t and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). From the linear fit plot, the sensitivity was found to be 237.7 µA µM−1 cm−2 with LoD (limit of detection) of 19.8 µM and up to 1.2 mM concentration of glucose. Further, for methanol, both LoD and sensitivity values were found to be 0.007 µM and 0.016 µA/µ***2, respectively. The results are quite promising for the deposited material for its possible real-life applications as sensing platform for the electrochemical D-glucose and methanol detections. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

Real-time monitoring of health threatening gases for chemical safety and human health protection requires detection and discrimination of trace gases with proper gas sensors. In many applications, costly, bulky, and power-hungry devices, normally employing optical gas sensors and electro-chemical gas sensors, are used for this purpose. Using a single miniature low-power semiconductor gas sensor to achieve this goal is hardly possible, mostly due to its selectivity issue. Herein, we report a dual-mode microheater integrated nanotube array gas sensor (MINA sensor). The MINA sensor can detect hydrogen, acetone, toluene, and formaldehyde with the lowest measured limits of detection (LODs) as 40 parts-per-trillion (ppt) and the theoretical LODs of ~7 ppt, under the continuous heating (CH) mode, owing to the nanotubular architecture with large sensing area and excellent surface catalytic activity. Intriguingly, unlike the conventional electronic noses that use arrays of gas sensors for gas discrimination, we discovered that when driven by the pulse heating (PH) mode, a single MINA sensor possesses discrimination capability of multiple gases through a transient feature extraction method. These above features of our MINA sensors make them highly attractive for distributed low-power sensor networks and battery-powered mobile sensing systems for chemical/environmental safety and healthcare applications.

In solving the problem of random launch of long-distance and high-precision strategic missile trains, the passive autonomous navigation mode dominated by inertial navigation (INS) shows its unique advantages, but the Inertial navigation system has the problem that the accumulated error cannot be eliminated, which cannot meet the practical application requirements, and needs to be assisted by other navigation means. As a passive and fully autonomous navigation system, geomagnetic navigation has the advantages of low cost, anti-interference, all region, small size, and no accumulated error, which can effectively compensate for the shortcomings of other current navigation systems. In this paper, we introduce high-precision laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) and geomagnetic sensor into the integrated system, and propose a geomagnetic sensor assisted INS/LDV integrated positioning scheme. On the basis of INS/LDV integration, we design INS/LDV/geomagnetic sensor integrated navigation system and algorithm, correct the error of NS/LDV integrated navigation system, and further improve the integrated navigation positioning accuracy. © 2023 SPIE.

Publicly available TTS datasets for low-resource languages like Hindi and Tamil typically contain 10-20 hours of data, leading to poor vocabulary coverage. This limitation becomes evident in downstream applications where domain-specific vocabulary coupled with frequent code-mixing with English, results in many OOV words. To highlight this problem, we create a benchmark containing OOV words from several real-world applications. Indeed, state-of-the-art Hindi and Tamil TTS systems perform poorly on this OOV benchmark, as indicated by intelligibility tests. To improve the model's OOV performance, we propose a low-effort and economically viable strategy to obtain more training data. Specifically, we propose using volunteers as opposed to high quality voice artists to record words containing character bigrams unseen in the training data. We show that using such inexpensive data, the model's performance improves on OOV words, while not affecting voice quality and in-domain performance.

The integration of vehicle-to-everything (V2x) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) technologies is reshaping vehicular communication, necessitating robust protocols capable of supporting low-power and lossy networks (LLNs). The routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks (RPLs) plays a vital role in enhancing data exchange efficiency and reliability within dynamic vehicular environments. However, RPL faces significant security challenges when adapted to vehicular networks, which differ markedly from the less hostile environments originally envisioned for RPL. In this article, we analyze the security vulnerabilities of RPL in the complex interactive environment of vehicular networks. Specifically, we introduce a novel deep learning-based dynamic attack algorithm to expose the limitations of existing defense mechanisms and highlight RPL's security vulnerabilities in IoV applications. The experimental results reveal that the proposed attack outperforms traditional attacks in multiple metrics, increasing packet loss by 43%, end-to-end delay by 300%, and reducing link quality throughput by 60% and vehicle node battery life by 50%. Even with in place defense mechanisms, our attack demonstrates greater effectiveness 70% over traditional methods, including version number attacks, wormhole attacks, and DIS flooding attacks. These findings underscore the insufficiency of current security measures and confirm the urgent need for advanced protective strategies to safeguard RPL deployments, particularly in complex IoV communication scenarios.

In this work, we followed an energy-saving approach to design a micro-heater device for virtual reality (VR) applications, using a simple, low-cost step-lithography technique. First, spiral shapes of the Al-0.5Cu-based micro-heaters are designed and fabricated with a surface area of 5 mm x 5 mm. We, then, tested and evaluated the Joule heating characteristics of the proposed micro-heater using the proposed spiral design patterns. The fabricated micro-heaters are, then, used to realize a hand-worn VR device with thermal feedback. We present, in this paper, preliminary results of a wearable device with one micro-heater mounted on the user's index fingertip. The performance of the proposed system is verified under a VR application including touching three glasses with different water temperatures. The results denote that the geometry of the micro-heater enabled the sensation of temperature to be reached with low energy consumption. The proposed micro-structure provides researchers with the possibility to design more compact and lightweight devices for thermal sensation generation in VR applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Memory management operations that modify page-tables, typically performed during memory allocation/deallocation, are infamous for their poor performance in highly threaded applications, largely due to process-wide TLB shootdowns that the OS must issue due to the lack of hardware support for TLB coherence. We study these operations in NUMA settings, where we observe up to 40x overhead for basic operations such as munmap or mprotect. The overhead further increases if page table replication is used, where complete coherent copies of the page-tables are maintained across all NUMA nodes. While eager system-wide replication is extremely effective at localizing page-table reads during address translation, we find that it creates additional penalties upon any page-table changes due to the need to maintain all replicas coherent. In this paper, we propose a novel page-table management mechanism, called Hydra, to enable transparent, on-demand, and partial page-table replication across NUMA nodes in order to perform address translation locally, while avoiding the overheads and scalability issues of system-wide full page-table replication. We then show that Hydra's precise knowledge of page-table sharers can be leveraged to significantly reduce the number of TLB shootdowns issued upon any memory-management operation. As a result, Hydra not only avoids replication-related slowdowns, but also provides significant speedup over the baseline on memory allocation/deallocation and access control operations. We implement Hydra in Linux on x86_64, evaluate it on 4- and 8-socket systems, and show that Hydra achieves the full benefits of eager page-table replication on a wide range of applications, while also achieving a 12% and 36% runtime improvement on Webserver and Memcached respectively due to a significant reduction in TLB shootdowns.

This paper aims to present an experimental study of structured crystals, which has been realized by the integrated use of software products for assessment and analysis of crystal lattices, as well as the building of their three-dimensional color profiles based on the author’s microscopic images with a view to subsequently importing them into agent-based simulation environment models for visualization of crystal growth. The generated results can contribute to extending previous author’s research, united in a methodology for the optimization of structured crystals for telecommunication and scientific-technological applications, in which the object of the microscopic and simulation studies are the quartz crystals and the possibilities of their implementation in technical devices such as quartz filters and resonators. In the present research the focus is placed on simulation methods for the study of ruby crystals after their preliminary optimization. This approach is justified by their possible applications in laser systems, temperature sensor components of modern 3D printers, and medical devices, which aim to increase the efficiency of industrial processes. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.
