advanced V2x communication applications require very stringent communication performance parameter conditions like data rate, end-to-end delay, data dropping ratio and reliability of the communication link to fulfil the requirements of the respective advanced applications as depicted by their corresponding 3GPP Use Case Group. The current IEEE 802.11p and 3GPP LTE C-V2x are unable to meet these stringent conditions. Communication at mmWave frequency ranges has the capability of meeting these advanced application requirements, but suffers from high path and penetration loss of the signal. Therefore, to increase the QoS of the V2V communication, the use of intermediate vehicle between source vehicle and destination vehicle becomes vital. Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and Coalition Game (CG) theory are used for the selection of relay vehicles from a set of candidate relay vehicles. These relay vehicles (or vehicular User Equipment) provide the path for message transfer when LOS path is blocked between source vehicle and destination vehicle or when the LOS distance between them is too much to maintain the QoS requirements of the particular advanced V2x application. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Researchers from different market domains have made significant developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabling more advanced automated sensing systems and, thus, eliminating the need for the time-consuming manual analysis of data, which is prone to human errors. However, successful deployment of such systems in real world applications requires careful design and analysis of the proposed models. This work focuses on perception done on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) using multi-task learning. There are multiple challenges when considering such platforms. First of all, they often operate in difficult and dynamic conditions affected by various factors, such as background noises, ego-noise of the motors and occluded views. At the same time, they require high performance local compute, co-designed with optimized software solutions that meet small size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements. Therefore, the AI models designed for such systems should not introduce computational and memory overheads to allow for real time processing at the embedded edge. Taking this into account, this work proposes a novel neural network-based system that utilizes ensemble-guided modulations of audio path fused with the infrared (IR) visual embedding using the attention mechanism. The ensemble mechanism doesn't require spawning new ensemble members, but instead operates on FiLM (Feature-wise Linear Modulation) activation, making it suitable for resource-constraints embedded edge platforms. The performed experiments show that the proposed network outperforms a single FiLM network by 15% and is more robust to noise.

This article introduces the design and research of a cloud based integrated water and fertilizer control system, aiming to achieve intelligent management of agricultural water and fertilizer resources through the integration of Internet of Things technology and cloud computing. The system utilizes sensor networks to monitor soil and environmental parameters in real-time, and uploads data to the cloud for processing. The cloud platform analyzes data and automatically adjusts irrigation and fertilization strategies to optimize resource utilization and increase crop yield. Users can monitor the condition of farmland through mobile applications, manually adjust plans, or query historical data. The experimental results indicate that the system can effectively improve agricultural production efficiency and crop quality, which is of great significance for achieving precision agriculture. © 2024 SPIE.

Lossy compression and asynchronous I/O are two of the most effective solutions for reducing storage overhead and enhancing I/O performance in large-scale high-performance computing (HPC) applications. However, current approaches have limitations that prevent them from fully leveraging lossy compression, and they may also result in task collisions, which restrict the overall performance of HPC applications. To address these issues, we propose an optimization approach for the task scheduling problem that encompasses computation, compression, and I/O. Our algorithm adaptively selects the optimal compression and I/O queue to minimize the performance degradation of the computation. We also introduce an intra-node I/O workload balancing mechanism that evenly distributes the workload across different processes. Additionally, we design a framework that incorporates fine-grained compression, a compressed data buffer, and a shared Huffman tree to fully benefit from our proposed task scheduling. Experimental results with up to 16 nodes and 64 GPUs from ORNL Summit, as well as real-world HPC applications, demonstrate that our solution reduces I/O overhead by up to 3.8x and 2.6x compared to non-compression and asynchronous I/O solutions, respectively.

GNSS navigation requires an unobstructed line-of-sight view of four or more satellites with suitable geometry to compute latitude, longitude, altitude, and time. GNSS signal weakens in degraded environments such as Urban Canyons, Tunnels, Under Passes, and Green Tunnels. Therefore, GNSS alone cannot provide reliable navigation support in challenging environments. To address this limitation, GNSS can be augmented with multiple other navigation sensors to provide an integrated solution, including inertial measurement units, magnetometers, and radars. Low-cost, small size and lightweight MEMS sensors are used for a wide range of navigation applications. However, adding each sensor increases the complexity of the systems as each sensor independently measures a particular parameter. Multi-sensor data fusion techniques, such as Kalman Filter (KF), play a vital role in improving the navigation accuracy of the system. This paper reviews multiple sensor schemes for integrating two accelerometers, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, and Adaptive Cruise Control Radar augmented with GNSS to provide an integrated multi-sensor navigation system. These multiple sensor schemes were tested in an actual road trajectory in Kingston. In addition, GNSS outages were intentionally introduced on this road trajectory to examine the performance of different Schemes for various motion dynamics.

Industrial automation is undergoing a tremendous change due to the proliferation of the concepts, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) and tactile internet, which enables the interconnections of factory floor devices and enterprise network on a wider and fine-grained scale. Vision sensor deployments are getting great momentum in factories, as it improves the quality and productivity of the systems being inspected. Smart Vision sensors[1] removes the need of the additional infrastructures for running the image processing algorithms and vision applications, by directly running the vision logic on the device and control/monitor the various parameters on the field based on the image processing outputs. Industrial vision sensor (IVIS) is an industrial smart camera, which has a CMOS image sensor[2] and a powerful on-board processing system capable of supporting machine vision applications, for improving the product and process qualities and thereby improve the yield and profit. IVIS is capable of extracting applicationspecific information from the captured images and make decisions based on the image processing algorithms implemented on the system, to realize stand-alone intelligent and decision-making automation system. In this paper we present the design and development of IVIS, its application domains and preliminary test results.

An ideal Near-to-Eye display (NED) requires high-resolution images, a large field of view (FOV) and depth cues. Sometimes, those performances are degraded due to optical aberrations of optics. To correct for aberrations, in this work, we utilize digital phase conjugation (DPC) with a Texas Instruments phase light modulator (TI-PLM) to generate a 3D image with TIR/geometrical image guide. TI-PLM is a type of MEMS device that modulates the phase of the incoming light by moving the micromirrors in a piston motion, thereby modulating the phase. To measure aberration induced by the image guide combiner, we employed an off-axis holography, capturing the off-axis fringes using a camera sensor. Subsequently, image processing on the captured fringes, involving Fourier transform and cropping of +1st order, to extract the final field information while reducing low-frequency noise. Computer-generated hologram (CGH) was generated to negate the phase aberration, which is then displayed on the PLM. Through phase conjugation, we reconstruct the wavefront, resulting in a series of point sources displayed at different depths, and producing a 3D point images. This method allows us to generate multiple point sources with different depths, contributing to the 3D image in our Near-toEye display even via aberrated medium.

Future conflicts involving Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO) will require an unprecedented scale of standoff targeting against hardened, mobile, and dynamic targets that will only be possible through effective use of sensing, command and control (C2), and targeting assets across multi-domain (space/air/ground/sea) kill chains. Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy are critical to enabling effective, scalable, and timely kill chains, but only if applied appropriately to address kill chain limitations, informed by quantitative system of systems modeling and simulation at the data level. To address these challenges, BAE systems is developing a Virtual System of systems Testbed to enable detailed quantitative mission level analysis of kill chain performance in a variety of multi-domain scenarios, combining high fidelity platform and sensor simulation with detailed modeling of information flows through the kill chain. The Testbed uses Bohemia Interactive Simulation's Virtual Battlespace 4 (VBS4) to model virtual physical entities, and uses the VBS4 Simulation SDK to pass dynamic scenario data messages for real-time processing by advanced algorithm plug-ins including AI-based information dissemination and Autonomous mission management. In this paper, we will describe the challenges posed by JADO and the critical importance of system of system analysis to inform the application of advanced algorithmic technologies. We discuss the rationale and architecture of the Virtual System of systems testbed, the technologies incorporated, and the methodologies for system of systems analysis. We will present results assessing system of systems contribution of these technologies to improving mission-level metrics such as latency, scalability, and robustness of kill chain response.

Nanostructured systems based on ZnO nanoparticles composite systems/polymer fibers have attracted a lot of attention in the last years because of their applications in multiple areas. Nanofibres based on polymers are used in many domains such as nanocatalysis, controlled release of medicines, environmental protection and so on. This work show the synthesis of cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) nanofiber useful as substrates for growing ZnO nanocrystals and that ZnO is an unorganic metal oxide nanoparticle used to improve the piezoelectric properties of the polymer. The piezoelectric propertiesof ZnO-doped polymeric was investigated with atomic force microscopy and measurements were performed, in contact technique, in piezoelectric response mode (PFM).In order to analyze the structural and textural features, the obtained materials were characterized using advanced physical-chemical techniques such as x-ray diffraction (xRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The xRD patterns show the characteristic reflections of ZnO with a hexagonal type wurtzit structure and the broad peaks of the polymer. The SEM images reveal the presence of ZnO nanoparticles on top of the polymer *** most ZnO-based nanocomposites their morphology is uncontrolled (agglomerated granules), but in ase of using cellulose acetobutyrate this becomes controlled by observing through flower-like structures SEM and AFM) The study of the functional properties of ZnO/polymer fiber composite systems showed that they have piezoelectric properties which give them the characteristics of smart material with possible sensor and actuator *** literature reports that the synthesis and characterization of ZnO-polymer nanocomposites are more flexible materials for various applications.
