Low-energy threshold, high-resolution superconducting detector arrays with 10(3) -10(5) pixels are increasingly necessary in ground- and space-based telescopes across the electromagnetic spectrum including mm-wave, far-infrared (Far-IR), near-infrared, X-ray, and gamma rays. Reading out such large numbers of sensors poses significant technical challenges, but recent cryogenic readout technology developments are enabling the simultaneous read out of significantly more channels with minimal performance impact. An especially promising set of cold readout technologies couple cryogenic sensors to superconducting resonators. These technologies rely on high-frequency RF electronics to interrogate and demodulate the sensors' signals using digitally generated tones. Recently released Radio Frequency systems-on-Chip (RFSoC) devices from xilinx combine a FPGA with high-speed ADCs and DACs onto a single chip. These systems provide significant advantages for these applications, including lower cost, reduced size and weight, lower power consumption, and improved RF performance. While an RFSoC-based warm readout system would be attractive for a broad range of spacecraft applications, xilinx has not announced plans for a space qualified version of its RFSoC devices and insufficient data is publicly available to evaluate the feasibility of using RFSoC devices in space. To evaluate the suitability of RFSoC devices for spacecraft applications, we have designed and built custom boards using all space-qualified components except for the RFSoC. In this contribution we present the design of our custom RFSoC board, measurements of critical aspects of board performance which relate to operation in the harsh space environment, and measurements of integrated RF performance targeting the readout of large superconducting sensor arrays and space-based radio spectrometry. On-device adapting to continual, unpredictable domain shifts is essential for mobile applications like autonomous driving and augmented reality to deliver seamless user experiences in evolving environments. Test-time adaptation (TTA) emerges as a promising solution by tuning model parameters with unlabeled live data immediately before prediction. However, TTA's unique forward-backward-reforward pipeline notably increases the latency over standard inference, undermining the responsiveness in time-sensitive mobile applications. This paper presents AdaShadow, a responsive test-time adaptation framework for non-stationary mobile data distribution and resource dynamics via selective updates of adaptation-critical layers. Although the tactic is recognized in generic on-device training, TTA's unsupervised and online context presents unique challenges in estimating layer importance and latency, as well as scheduling the optimal layer update plan. AdaShadow addresses these challenges with a backpropagation-free assessor to rapidly identify critical layers, a unit-based runtime predictor to account for resource dynamics in latency estimation, and an online scheduler for prompt layer update planning. Also, AdaShadow incorporates a memory I/O-aware computation reuse scheme to further reduce latency in the reforwardpass. Results show that AdaShadow achieves the best accuracy-latency balance under continual shifts. At low memory and energy costs, Adashadow provides a 2x to 3.5x speedup (ms-level) over state-of-the-art TTA methods with comparable accuracy and a 14.8% to 25.4% accuracy boost over efficient supervised methods with similar latency. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

A bent core-offset in-line fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZIs) is proposed for refractive index (RI) sensing. After simply bending, not only the RI sensitivity but also the temperature sensitivity can be enhanced as the bending radius decreases. To solve the cross-sensitivity problem, a simultaneous measurement of RI and temperature was carried out. When the bending radius is 35.64 mm, the highest RI sensitivity of -44.55 nm/RIU for the RI range from 1.333 to 1.373, and the highest temperature sensitivity of 0.0799 nm/degrees C for the temperature range from 25 degrees C to 60 degrees C were measured simultaneously.

Indoor air pollution is a persistent and significant issue with detrimental effects on human health, including respiratory problems, allergies, carcinogenic risks, and impacts on the nervous and cardiovascular systems. The presence of harmful gases resulting from human activities further exacerbates these health concerns, leading to reduced productivity, increased morbidity, and economic losses. This paper aims to address the current challenges of indoor air pollution by proposing a practical Internet of Things (IoT)-based online monitoring system. The system comprises three key components: (1) the design and implementation of sensor-based data collection for indoor air quality using Raspberry Pi, (2) the development of network protocols and data storage utilizing the Ali cloud platform, and (3) the creation of user-friendly web visualization and UI design. By integrating IoT technology, the poposed air quality control system can achieve enhanced intelligence and performance, making it a valuable tool for improving indoor air quality. ©2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a magnetic field sensor based on Terfenol-D coated optical fibers is proposed and demonstrated. In our scheme, standard single mode fibers are coated by a thick layer of a magnetostrictive composite consisting of Terfenol-D particles dispersed in a polymer, which is then utilized as sensing elements. The magnetic field-induced strain on single mode fibers coated by the Terfenol-D was interrogated by an optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR). The experimental results show that the sensitivity of the magnetostrictive fiber sensor depends on the coating characteristics including the surface of coated optical fiber. The sensitivity of the proposed sensor is 0.175 mu epsilon/mT.

Terahertz (THz) time- domain spectroscopy (TDS) technology has greatly advanced various THz applications ranging from fundamental science to industrial non-destructive imaging. However, traditional THz-TDS systems rely on complex setups with femtosecond pulse lasers and bulky free-space optical components, hindering their miniaturization. A more practical approach introduces THz frequency domain imaging using semiconductor laser diodes, which replace femtosecond laser and facilitate integration into photonic integrated circuit (PIC) chips. Despite its promise, addressing real-world imaging applications remains challenging due to the need for free-space optics, which also negatively impact resolution due to the diffraction limit. To overcome this limitation, this study explores the use of silicon (Si) microphotonics, focusing on an integrated Y-junction that operates as an interferometer. The Y-junction essentially replaces all free-space components, paving the way towards compact, monolithically integrated all-silicon structures that span just similar to 1 cm. We demonstrate near-field imaging at 325 GHz employing the Y-junction. The experiments achieve a 500-mu m spatial resolution and a 100-mu m depth resolution, showcasing potential for handheld THz near-field imaging sensors.

With the development of the modern computer and its wide application in the military, radar information visualization technology has affected military activities with an unprecedented breadth and depth. It has proposed new methods in target positioning, detailed performance, fire attack, and battlefield coordination as the request. The use of Kalman waves in tracking radars can lead to significant improvements in tracking performance. The typical tracking radar consists of a number of independent closed-loop feedback systems with constant coefficients. Such as two independent feature, elevation tracking systems, a distance tracking system and a speed tracking system. Designing this tracking system is ultimately a matter of choosing a suitable low-pass filter. It responds quickly enough to the maneuver of the target while suppressing interference, whether or not the choice is good or bad depends mainly on the designer's experience. Under this background, this paper proposes the novel radar tracking simulation numerical model. We apply the advanced signal processing algorithm to assist evaluating the model performance. The proposed framework is compared with the state-of-the-art approaches, which has proved that the tracking efficiency is higher. © 2023 IEEE.

In-sensor computing has emerged as a promising approach to mitigating huge data transmission costs between sensors and processing units. Recently, the emerging application scenarios have raised more demands of sensory technology for large-area and flexible integration. However, with thin-film technologies that are capable of providing flexible and large-area integration support, the implementation of in-sensor computing can be strongly restricted due to the low device performance, large-area integration variation, and costly interface between sensors and CMOS processors. To address this challenge, we propose an in-sensor computing architecture to facilitate high-parallelism NN pre-processing and effective data compression. The boundaries of computing parallelism are expanded by adopting compact ROM-based compute-in-memory scheme next to sensing array. Differential-frame computing provides not only excellent robustness, but also high data sparsity. A bio-inspired data compression method with residual recovery caches and zero-skip circuits further enhances output sparsity without accumulated error. Based on the proposed cross-layer design optimization, an LTPS TFT-based ROM CiM chip has been fabricated and experimentally measured. The system-level evaluation demonstrates 3.85× speedup and 5.10× energy efficiency improvement compared with traditional architecture with separated sensors and processors, outperforming existing in-sensor computing works in large-area thin-film technology scenarios. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The appraisal system in organizations has been plagued by several challenges, including inefficiency, discrimination, perceived unfairness, and an operational-focused approach. These issues hinder the effectiveness of performance appraisal processes, leading to suboptimal outcomes. Previous studies have highlighted these problems and proposed alternative approaches like coaching-oriented system which focuses on employee behavior and leadership development, while also advocating for the separation of appraisal from rewards to mitigate biases. However, there are gaps remain in addressing the limitations of automated systems such as the crucial role played by the quality and diversity of the training data in determining the accuracy and efficiency of the NLP model, along with acknowledging the irreplaceable role of human involvement. Our study aimed to address these issues by automating the feedback review process using a transfer learning model, enhancing accuracy, efficiency, objectivity, and scalability. This study implements the BERT model from Hugging Face and achieves promising validation metrics of better performance when compared to other language models such as Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models. It is proved that biases and decision-making process in the traditional appraisal system can be improved with the deployment of advanced NLP models such as BERT. Furthermore, this model promotes a more equitable and transparent workplace environment by scaling and consistency in performance review. © 2024 IEEE.
