Amid a vibrant paradigm shift precipitated by the Internet of Things (IoT), the security of IoT systems is more critical than ever. IoT systems equip sensors at their hearts, utilizing them for real-time monitoring and device control, which largely contributes to sensor networks and their communications. One of the most popular machine-to-machine messaging protocols, Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT), has little security defined in the standard. Transport Layer Security (TLS) is highly recommended as of MQTT version 5.0, the latest available version and widely used. This study aims to replace such TLS with Topic Name/Filter tokenization with payload encryption using Authenticated Encryption schemes. Tokenization involves the utilization of one of the well-known proactive techniques, Moving Target Defence (MTD), which focuses on changing the attack surface to force attackers to keep up with the system, and attacks such as Man-in-the-Middle attacks and dictionary attacks can be effectively handled with it. Moreover, this study evaluates and confirms the implementation’s efficiency using three objective metrics: publish duration, network traffic, and power consumption. MQTT-MTD is shown to outperform TLS across all three metrics, contributing to enhanced proactive and defensive security against cyberattacks while simultaneously reducing security costs, thereby holding the potential of playing a crucial role in lowering cybercrime toward IoT systems.

In view of the strict requirements of small-scale unmanned aerial vehicle on the performance, volume and weight of flight control system, this paper presents a hardware design of flight control system based on STM32F103RCT6 microcontroller. In accordance with the system function and interface characteristics, the flight control system is divided into power module, main control module, sensor module and interface drive module, which meet the technical requirements of high integration, low coupling and expansibility of the flight control system. According to the characteristics of different types of sensor units integrated in the system, we design the interface circuit of inertial sensor, barometer and geomagnetic sensor based on I2C bus and GPS interface circuit based on UART. The flight experiments are carried out on the small-scale quadcopter platform. The results show that the flight control system designed in this paper has good practicability and high reliability, and meets the requirements of the small-scale unmanned aerial vehicle for the function and performance of the flight control system.

WSN are now essential components of contemporary network infrastructures, providing instantaneous data collection and environmental surveillance in diverse domains. Nevertheless, these networks encounter substantial obstacles such as congestion, system failures, and inefficient energy usage. Adaptive load balancing strategies are essential for enhancing network performance and resilience in order to tackle these issues. This study introduces a new method that utilizes density-based cluster head selection algorithms to enhance load balancing, effective data aggregation, routing, and energy management in wireless sensor networks (WSN). The proposed adaptive load balancing strategy employs an advanced clustering algorithm that chooses cluster heads based on both node density and residual energy, guaranteeing effective network organization and communication. This method employs adaptive mechanisms to accommodate fluctuations in network conditions, ensuring equitable distribution of traffic throughout the network and mitigating the potential for system failures caused by excessive load. The proposed strategy shows substantial enhancements in energy efficiency and network lifespan when compared to conventional density-based cluster head selection methods, as evidenced by experimental evaluations. The findings demonstrate that our methodology results in decreased energy usage and enhanced energy retention within the network. The results indicate that the proposed method exhibits lower energy consumption (170 units) compared to density-based cluster head selection (299 units), while also maintaining higher remaining energy levels (13,930 units) compared to the traditional approach (13,801 units). The findings emphasize the effectiveness of the adaptive load balancing strategy in prolonging the lifespan of WSN and decreasing the likelihood of system failures.

Two examples of interconnected systems and gadgets that have evolved as a result of fast technological developments are the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). The public safety and catastrophe management sectors are only two of many that may see revolutionary changes brought forth by this technology. An Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV)-based safety system for remote real-time monitoring and seismic detection is proposed in this *** monitor seismic activity and detect impending fires, the proposed system employs a network of sensors installed in various buildings and vehicles. Among the many data-gathering instruments included in these sensors are vibration sensors, which can detect earthquakes, and smoke detectors, which may detect fires. The acquired data is received by a centralised control unit using wireless *** order to accurately detect earthquakes and fires, the control unit processes the provided data using advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques. The system also makes use of the IoV concept to make the reaction measures more efficient and effective. It utilises the real-time position and trajectory data of cars to aid in rapid emergency response and optimise evacuation *** are several advantages to the proposed method over more traditional forms of monitoring and safety systems. Authorities can respond swiftly to earthquakes and fires because to its real-time monitoring capabilities, which in turn reduces the likelihood of human deaths and property damage. Improving the system's responsiveness, the integration of IoV enables intelligent decision-making based on the varying traffic circumstances and available resources.

This study presents a digital twin system designed to monitor, predict, and optimize linear welding parameters in real time, with applications in Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing. The system leverages Kubernetes to seamlessly integrate various sensors, enabling their dynamic allocation to different aggregates and ensuring scalability for adding new devices as needed. The selected computational models, including machine learning and fuzzy logic-based approaches, provided effective real-time feedback to the welding aggregate by dynamically adjusting welding power. GitOps practices and event-driven communication using message queues facilitated efficient deployment and management in this dynamic and distributed environment, facilitating continuous system updates and minimizing downtime. By providing real-time feedback to welding machine operators and functioning as a digital twin, this system enhances both simulation capabilities and physical process control, demonstrating potential for cross-domain interoperability and advanced decision-making frameworks.

This paper focuses on the development of the concept of an active wireless sensor network (WSN) as a basis for improving the checkability of high-risk facilities in post-accident monitoring. The use of a drone system as WSN nodes provides a mobility network, the advantages of which are analyzed from the standpoint of improving the controllability and observability of the object in difficult post-accident conditions. The possibilities of renewing the resources of the mobile WSN, quick adaptation to the realities of training and reconfiguration as factors of ensuring high checkability of post-emergency objects are investigated. An analogy is drawn in the rating of checkability for digital circuits in critical systems and post-accident checkability of increased risk objects. The possibilities of active WSN, provided by its mobility, are analyzed.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) convert neuronal activity into commands for controlling external devices. For example, a paralyzed patient can use BCI to control a robotic arm to drink water. However, employing intracortical brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs) to control robotic arm movements and various daily grasping tasks in a three-dimensional (3D) environment faces significant challenges. The degree of freedom (DoF) decoded from iBCI signals often falls short of the requirements for effective control of robotic arm & hand in daily activities. This study proposes a shared robotic arm control system for iBCIs. The system employs spike signals to control the robotic arm move into left or right direction. The integrated computer vision (CV) identifies the position, size, and category of the objects, facilitating more precise grasping. At last, movement direction decoding based on eight neural units achieved a classification accuracy of 93.1%, with a five-fold cross-validation error rate of 19.8%. The iBCI and CV sharedly control the robotic arm to grasp eight objects of different kinds and shapes, positioned at different locations. Furthermore, the shared control system has been validated through an online grasping experiment on a macaque. Results demonstrated the feasibility of generating practical multidimensional control of a robotic arm by merging iBCI and CV-based recognition.

This paper presents Surena-V, a humanoid robot designed to enhance human-robot collaboration capabilities. The robot features a range of sensors, including barometric tactile sensors in its hands, to facilitate precise environmental interaction. This is demonstrated through an experiment showcasing the robot’s ability to control a medical needle’s movement through soft material. Surena-V’s operational framework emphasizes stability and collaboration, employing various optimization-based control strategies such as Zero Moment Point (ZMP) modification through upper body movement and stepping. Notably, the robot’s interaction with the environment is improved by detecting and interpreting external forces at their point of effect, allowing for more agile responses compared to methods that control overall balance based on external forces. The efficacy of this architecture is substantiated through an experiment illustrating the robot’s collaboration with a human in moving a bar. This work contributes to the field of humanoid robotics by presenting a comprehensive system design and control architecture focused on human-robot collaboration and environmental adaptability.

Robotic applications necessitate robust, compact, and adaptable computing solutions to address the demands of real-time control, data processing, and seamless integration with diverse sensors and actuators. This research work endeavors to harness the capabilities of the Raspberry Pi Compute Module to craft an optimized computing platform tailored explicitly for robotic applications. The aim is to give a solution that combines the processing power needed for advanced robotic functionality with the ecosystem flexibility of the Raspberry Pi. The system architecture mandates efficient communication between actuators, sensors, and the master controller. To facilitate this communication, protocols such as CAN Bus, I2C, and EtherCAT are employed. These protocols serve as the conduits through which data is transmitted to and from the respective slave devices. By integrating EtherCAT master firmware and middleware libraries, the system ensures seamless communication with EtherCAT slave devices, thereby guaranteeing deterministic operation and precise synchronization throughout the network.
