Green Hydrogen energy is promising alternative of fossil fuels under the global warming crisis. However, the efficiency and lifespans of state-of-the-art low temperature water electrolysis cells (LTWEs) are highly influenced by their two-phase mass transport behaviors, e.g., gas bubble evolutions ranging from micro/nanoscopic range to the macroscopic. Therefore, developing diagnostic/monitoring systems for studying these phenomena are crucial to promote the development of green Hydrogen energy systems. In this work, we focus on the macroscale, and we propose a Scholte wave based non-destructive monitoring scheme of gas bubbles in flow channels of LTWEs. In short, Scholte waves are able to propagate along the interface of water and flow channels incorporated in a bipolar plate, and they are in parallel excited and received only along each straight section of flow channels to avoid complicated reflections of excitation waves at flow fields' boundaries. These excited waves are partially scattered by appearances of gas bubbles in flow channels, and the evolution of gas bubbles can be deduced from acquired echo signals. The proposed method is experimentally demonstrated using an ex-situ setup with a single straight flow channel of 115 mm length on a 400 μm thick Aluminum sheet. The Scholte waves were generated by mode conversions of Lamb waves on a fluid coupled plate-like structure, using angle beam transducers. We show that gas bubbles can be accurately localized by the time-of-flight of acquired echo signals within an error of 200 μm. The proposed method opens new horizons on diagnosis of flow regimes and monitoring of gas bubble evolutions towards more efficient and reliable industrial hydrogen production. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces a novel approach that seeks a middle ground for traffic control in multi-lane congestion, where prevailing traffic speeds are too fast, and speed recommendations designed to dampen traffic waves are too slow. advanced controllers that modify the speed of an automated car for wave-dampening, eco-driving, or other goals, typically are designed with forward collision safety in mind. Our approach goes further, by considering how dangerous it can be for a controller to drive so slowly relative to prevailing traffic that it creates a significant issue for safety and comfort. This paper explores open-road scenarios where large gaps between prevailing speeds and desired speeds can exist, specifically when infrastructure-based variable speed limit systems are not strictly followed at all times by other drivers. Our designed, implemented, and deployed algorithm is able to follow variable speed limits when others also follow it, avoid collisions with vehicles ahead, and adapt to prevailing traffic when other motorists are traveling well above the posted speeds. The key is to reject unsafe speed recommendations from infrastructure-based traffic smoothing systems, based on real-time local traffic conditions observed by the vehicle under control. This solution is implemented and deployed on two control vehicles in heavy multi-lane highway congestion. The results include analysis from system design, and field tests that validate the system’s performance using an existing Variable Speed Limit system as the external source for speed recommendations, and the on-board sensors of a stock Toyota Rav4 for inputs that estimate the prevailing speed of traffic around the vehicle under control.

Through the use of a sensor MPU 6050, a “Human-Machine interface Robotic Arm” is proposed and created in this article. This sensor detects hand motion in any direction. The proposed method implements five degrees of freedom: base rotation, arm motions, elbow motions, grip motions, and grip rotation. The robot hand can precisely grasp, operate, and move objects from one location to another utilizing human hand movements. The user has complete control over his or her hand based on his or her intents to pick up or drop an object. The described system guarantees instantaneous control and performance by incorporating human hand movement in real time. The ability to regulate the robotic hand ensures the security of humans and allows for versatile object manipulation. Overall, the proposed system can assure safety, adaptability, and precision when executing industrial or everyday operations.

The utilization of simple control systems, which rely on direct connections between sensors and actuators to the controller, has been found to be limiting due to the requirement of a significant number of wires, poor expandability, and low reliability. To address these limitations, advanced control systems for cyber-physical systems such as vehicles have adopted a decentralized approach, in which multiple controllers operate together. Each controller possesses its own state that represents data from sensors directly linked to it, as well as partially updated state information received from other controllers through data buses. The controllers can differ in their architectures and processing capabilities, including the speed at which they process information. This study focuses on the implementation of a demo distributed control system for a bottling line. control is distributed over logical functions to four dedicated controllers, which communicate with each other via the CAN bus. The heterogeneity of the solution is demonstrated through the use of Arduino and Raspberry Pi as embedded hardware platforms. The latter device provides a full-fledged Linux cooperative environment and serves as both a controller and a control object simulator. A distinguishing feature of this solution is that the control algorithm is initially described using a process-oriented domain-specific language that incorporates finite state machines and logical processes. This enables the generation of target code for specific execution platforms. The exchange of variable values via the bus occurs at the beginning of each control cycle, with each controller working with its own vector of values.

Accurate reading of on-die temperature sensor (OD-TS) has been more and more important in the advanced techniques for dynamic thermal management, on which high performance system-on-chip (SOC) rely. If the large number of OD-TSs are allowed, OD-TS can be placed uniformly to accurately detect the on-die temperature with adequate spatial resolution. However, since OD-TS including its control circuitry requires die area and routing complexity, which is proportional to the number of OD-TS included in SOC, the number of OD-TS is limited by the available area.[1] In this work, the authors will present a systematic methodology to find the minimum number and optimum placement of OD-TS in high performance SOC design based on heterogeneous many core architecture, which is based on analyzing rank and eigen-vector. The given conditions including the power-map for the corresponding scenario and the thermal resistance matrix (TRM) of the corresponding package structure will be used to demonstrate the usefulness of the presented methodology in SOC design. The packages used in the case studies the authors will present are package-on-package (POP) popularly used in smart-phone application. By utilizing the methodology proposed by authors, the die-area and routing area required for TS might be able to be minimized, which is eventually expected to be strong driver of the cost-effective reliable SOC design.

Achieving this requires advanced sensor technologies, fusion theories, machine learning models for perceiving the environment around Autonomous Vehicles (AV). The intelligence, communication, and security of these systems are the separate entities which are under improvement and play a major role in calling a system to be totally intelligent. The study conducted on afore mentioned areas strives to provide an insight to the researchers on the various sensors of AV’s while it also notices some of the state-of-the-art processes in the field to propose a safe scene understanding.

Due to the substantial growth in the use of electronic devices in our daily lives, the demand for flexible and green input interfaces has increased as a mean to accommodate more sustainable Human Machine interface (HMI) options for consumers. Furthermore, capacitive touch sensors are more fabrication-friendly, sensitive, and responsive than traditional physical tactile buttons input interfaces. In this regard we have presented a flexible paper-based capacitive touchpad input interface fabricated through a facile, solvent-free eco-friendly method. Considering greenhouse gases and electronic waste conventionally associated with the electronic device lifecycle, non-toxic and recyclable materials in particular copper and paper are used to fabricate the touchpad. Copper tape is used as touch sensing electrodes, while cellulose-based printing paper is used as a substrate to support the electrodes. Furthermore, the touchpad implementation is facile and only requires off-the-shelf materials readily available easily in a home or laboratory settings. The touchpad flexibility allows bending, warping, twisting, and tugging to desired shape and size without causing a signal change in the functionality. The electrodes of the touchpad are touch-sensitive and sense the capacitance change caused by the effective capacitance of the skin with the help of a microcontroller. The touch-sensitive electrodes have very little intrinsic capacitance, and the response time of the implemented touchpad is excessive. Wireless digital switch control is also interfaced with the touchpad using the Wi-Fi equipped microcontroller. An RGB LED analogy successfully demonstrates the touchpad's functionality reported for controlling digital switches wirelessly. According to the study's findings, there is a very promising application scope for such a touchpad interface system in environment friendly, low cost, disposable HMI(s) that have a facile fabrication method. Post-stroke patients and individuals undergoing hand rehabilitation often grapple with prolonged and discomforting recovery processes. Hand exoskeleton products currently available in the market do not leverage precise input of therapist-assisted movements. Recognizing these challenges, technological solutions have emerged to assist and expedite rehabilitation, demanding practicality in lightweight design and user-centric features. controlled with a sensorized soft glove (SSG), the designed hand exoskeleton focuses on user-centric attributes, including lightweight construction, durability, and comfort. The constructed hand exoskeleton leverages printable finger segment mechanisms and other lightweight components, enhancing replicability. The mechatronic system, featuring flex sensors and micro linear actuators, adopts a modular design, streamlining setup, storage, troubleshooting, and component replacement. A central microcontroller-driven main board ensures immediate communication between flex sensors on the soft glove and actuators on the hand exoskeleton, facilitating replication of individual finger flexion and extension movements. Experiments were performed to assess the hand exoskeleton’s performance across various hand configurations using flex sensors placed where individual finger metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints are located on the printed segments, with RMSE between input rotational movements from the SSG and output rotational movements from the hand exoskeleton is less than 9.03°. Integrating printed finger segments promotes adaptability to diverse hand shapes and guarantees each user a personalized and comfortable fit. The flex sensor-based results show that the intended flexion or extension of the MCP or PIP joint on the SSG can be replicated by the hand exoskeleton.

This paper focus on the physical layer of a new communication protocol using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), and its implementation on FPGA mock-up for pressure and temperature sensors application. We implement the design of the OFDM transmitter and receiver blocks. We present an aeronautic sensors application in which a Power Line Communication (PLC) for sensors networks based on OFDM is implemented on FPGA. We show a laboratory test between FPGA connected to several pressure and temperature sensors;and a computer displaying a graphical user interface (GUI). © 2021 IEEE.
