Voice Assistant system (VAS) provides a convenient way for users to interact with smart-home devices via a voice interface. However, it raises unique security issues, including voice replay and injection attacks, where attackers remotely and maliciously control the smart-home devices via a voice interface. In this paper, we consider a typical smart-home scenario in which a VAS device and a compromised speaker device are placed in close physical proximity. The attacker can remotely play malicious voice commands through the speaker device to manipulate the VAS device for malicious purposes. We propose a defense system on the VAS device to secure the VAS device against both voice replay and injection attacks, without any additional devices and without any extra user effort. Specifically, our system aims to collect voice data and wireless data continuously from the VAS device and then extracts the Mel-Cepstral Frequency Coefficients (MFCC) features from voice and wireless data. We consider that both voice and wireless data are affected by the same present users' physical activities, and the correlation can be used to detect the attacks. Finally, our system applies a deep learning model that learns from previous time-series data and analyzes real-time data to infer whether the real-time voice command is generated from a user or the speaker device. We have tested our system in certain real-world smart-home scenarios. Our experiments showed that the proposed system has a probability between 76.4% to 89.1% to successfully detect the voice replay and injection attacks in the considered scenarios.

The active damping of structures is an important emerging field. In this context, it is necessary to be able to develop new control methods for flexible structures and simulate their effects. In order to be able to deal with the optimization of active device locations, spill over and any other general problems linked to control and model reduction, a simple but sufficiently rich model is very useful. This is the reason why this technical note deals with the modelling and simulation of the active vibration control of beam structures using piezoelectric actuators and sensors. Present technology uses the thermal mechanical properties of certain materials which exhibits certain special properties during stresses and by electrical application. Vibrations are the main cause of cyclic failure of structures. This can be reduced by these special devices. In the present study an analysis is carried out to find the damping characters of piezo electric members and extent of reduction. This particular damping is different materials as it directly depends on natural frequency of the system. (c) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. In the present technologically advanced society, new innovations are being developed constantly. An ever-expanding network that constantly works to exchange and acquire information on the newest trends in the industrial IoT Platform is the source of these new developments in IoT communications-based projects. Home automation is a way to remotely or automatically control household equipment from the tip of your finger. The user will then be able to afford solutions, improve energy conservation, and make the best use of energy. The development of IoT home automation has been greatly aided by the detection of fire in this next technology. A sudden destructive event like fire has the potential to quickly spread, resulting in significant losses of both societal goods and human lives. Preventive actions are essential necessary since, in the event of a fire, prevention is always preferable to cure. This necessitates the need to develop a fire safety equipment in both home and workplace. More attention has been given to an IoT-based automatic smoke detection system to detect smoke in a room and even keep track of it. Additionally, it enables us to notify users and the Fire and Rescue Department when a gas sensor detects a particular amount of smoke. These smoke detectors can emit an audible and visual signal locally in a home smoke detector or smoke alarm, or they send a signal to a fire alarm control panel as part of a building's central fire alarm system. Utilizing an automatic smoke detection system. The Internet of Things (IoT) is used in this automatic smoke detection system to operate all the devices, and a Wi-Fi shield serves as a bridge to connect the devices to the network so that the data from the smoke sensor can be read. The smoke situation in a home that the user can access via the Favoriot platform is continuously monitored by this system.

Photo multiplier tube (PMT) detector-based spectroscopy diagnostic has been installed for plasma physics experiments in ADITYA-U Tokamak. The output of PMT is current pulse ranging from 100nA-50µA depending upon the light detected from plasma. To condition this current signal to a level compatible with data acquisition system (DAQ) for further processing, analog signal conditioning electronics (SCE) has been designed and commissioned in ADITYA-U Tokamak at Institute for Plasma Research (IPR). SCE is a vital interface between detectors/sensors and the Data-acquisition and control system. Typical stages of SCE include current to voltage conversion, voltage amplification, filtration, galvanic isolation, impedance transformation, level translation. As electronics has to operate in high electric and magnetic field environment of Tokamak, special care needs to be taken in design and development of signal conditioning electronics to achieve accuracy in measurement. In ADITYA Tokamak, we had developed a 6U size chassis-based SCE system for PMT based spectroscopy diagnostic. ADITYA Tokamak in Institute has been upgraded to ADITYA-U Tokamak. The spectroscopy diagnostic requirement has also been upgraded. The electronics has also been upgraded in design and topology to improve signal to noise ratio, increase the channel density, lower the power consumption and easy to maintain. The paper presents new electronics of Adity-U Tokamak.

Smart health monitoring device provide improved health management and monitoring, and they also give doctors measured medical data for quicker patient diagnosis and better treatment planning. The project's goal is to create a working prototype for geriatric health monitoring using various sensors and sent alert messages to doctors and family members in the event of abnormal vital signs. The sensors used in this smart health monitoring system include a heartbeat sensor, a GSR for stress detection, a temperature sensor, an accelerometer sensor for fall detection as well as for step counting, alone with these sensor GPS Tracker, Arduino Nano, node MCV, and a display are used. Arduino receives data from the sensors and through node MCV these sensor values from the Arduino are transmitted. The sensor values are subsequently stored in the cloud by the node MCV after the data transfer. These values can also be visualized as graphs using MATLAB on the cloud platform Thing Speak. The results obtained with this monitoring device were accurate vitals measurements that were successfully coded to send out alert messages during abnormal ranges of parameters (smart monitoring), and the vitals graph was visualized on the Thing Speak platform. The device's size is larger than that of a wearable device, so it must be fitted inside a smaller enclosure for the patients' comfort in order for them to continuously monitor their health by wearing the device at all times. Nonetheless, an improved version of this work could help the patients experience comfortable monitoring and management of their health at ease.

This paper presents the development of an affordable wireless current-voltage (I-V) characterization system based on a low-cost Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller unit (MCU). The prototype instrumentation uses a low-power Wi-Fi SoC equipped with a 32-bit RISC processor. A supercapacitor (SC) with low ESR is used as the load. When connected across a solar cell, the supercapacitor charges and its terminal voltage and current are measured using a 16-bit I 2 C current/voltage/power sense module. The measured current-voltage (I-V) data are sent over to the host computer over the Wi-Fi hotspot created by the MCU and the acquired experimental results are displayed on a custom-built graphical user interface (GUI) in real time. The developed GUI software allows the user to easily control the experiment. It can trace the I-V/P-V curve of a solar cell and estimate its photovoltaic performance parameters by automatically analyzing the data in less than 30 seconds. The system can be powered using a 5V USB wall charger or a portable battery power bank which can facilitate remote characterization of photovoltaic devices. The entire system can be built in less than 50 USD using off-the-shelf parts.

The food sector consumes a large part of the world's packaging production, 35% of which is discarded after the first use. However, most of this packaging is made from fossil fuel feedstock plastics. The continued production of plastic packaging represents a series of negative impacts on the environment in terms of air, soil, and water, all due to its long degradation time and chemical composition. To mitigate this impact, new materials based on plant biomass have been used to find an eco-friendly substitute for traditional plastic packaging. To streamline and optimize the processes of dosing and to mix ingredients during the production of biodegradable trays, this research proposes the design of an automated mixing system for obtaining biodegradable biomass based on starch and vegetable fiber. The system was controlled by a PLC S7-1200 and monitored through an HMI interface, and the software structure was designed in the TIA Portal program. Finally, the system was commissioned and simulated in the Factory I/O software, where a process plant was recreated to simulate the signals from the water level sensors of the agitator tank and the weight sensors of the quantities of the ingredients to be dosed, also to activate actuators such as the agitator and the tank filling and dosing valves.

Ensuring consistent quality in metallurgic Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes, such as Cold Gas Spraying (CGS), is a significant challenge due to the inherent process variability in part quality. This study explores the integration of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to multimodal quality control, with the goal of increasing in-situ test coverage of manufactured parts and process stability. An open-source software solution for data engineering and analysis was developed using the Design Science Research methodology. Experiments were conducted on a CGS system utilizing CuZn30, a copper-zinc alloy material, as a representative case study. The developed AI models demonstrated high efficiency in identifying quality deviations across multiple quality characteristics, including oxidation, geometric inaccuracies and porosity (F1-Score=0.998). The results suggest that the combination of IIoT-measurement components and AI is a cost-effective way to significantly improve test coverage, enabling the control of multiple quality attributes and process reliability in metallurgical AM using low-cost sensors and open-source software. This research contributes to the advancement of cost-effective quality control systems and provides a case study of how AI can be used to improve the reliability and stability of advanced industrial manufacturing processes with respect to multiple quality characteristics and data modalities, paving the way for mass customization as proposed in the Industry 4.0 vision.

In the foreseeable future, highly automated mobile systems, such as vehicles, robots, UAVs, or trains, will be confronted with difficult situations that require external support. The availability of such external support corresponds to level 4 driving automation and is an essential feature in current robotaxis and automated public transportation. While the first generation of level 4 prototypes relied on safety driver support, commercial systems are gradually moving towards support by teleoperation. Designing teleoperation support for level 4 systems is an end-to-end problem involving two main research and practical challenges, the teleoperation function defining the remote human interface with its scene representation and available control functions, and the real-time communication channel involving wired and wireless segments, which must provide reliable end-to-end data transport. Both challenges are tightly linked, and combined solutions are needed to reach the required safe teleoperation. Solutions can make use of the rich sensing and control system of a level 4 vehicle, which however can only be exploited if the communication channel provides adequate real-time access.
