In this paper, the concept of the smart grid and the emerging challenges of wireless communication technology for use on the smart grid (SG)is reviewed. One modern-day technology of great significance is wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which has the potential to ensure the smooth operation of smart grid management and increase its energy efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness. The advanced electric power grid infrastructure known as smart grid takes advantage of automated control and cutting-edge communication strategies to achieve greater efficiency, reliability and safety, whilst seamlessly combining renewable and alternative sources of energy. Unlike conventional communication technologies, WSNs are more beneficial to modern electric power systems because they are affordable and operate on a cooperative basis. For this reason, WSNs are considered to have good potential for improving the way electric power is produced, distributed and used. Therefore, they are a key element of the smart grid. Nevertheless, the implementation of WSNs in smart grid settings may be inadequately reliable due to the complexity and unfavourable aspects of electric power system environments. The purpose of the current work is to review WSN uses in electric power systems and the opportunities and difficulties offered by this technology, as well as to delineate possible facets of smart grid applications and wireless technologies that future research could explore. The Internet of Things-empowered precision irrigation management system with LoRaWAN technology is presented given the growing food requirements across the world and pressing calls for judicious use of water in agriculture. Flow Pilot, specifically designed for chili farms, optimizes water application while enhancing crop health using precise and automated irrigation. The Flow Pilot features advanced sensors such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and rain sensors that collect real-time environmental data transmitted over a LoRaWAN network for analysis. Flow Pilot uses the Machine learning algorithm by analyzing sensor data to make localized irrigation recommendations based on crop needs, environmental factors, and weather forecasting. LoRaWAN gateways will support this for long-ranged communications over power-consuming agricultural fields. Besides this, it can use different network architectures. There is also an automated water tank management module that regulates the supply of water and pH levels to have optimal conditions for crop growth. A visually simple dashboard interface enables farmers to inspect and operate irrigation processes remotely, hence rendering the whole process far more efficient. Finally, over the extensive period of field tests executed by the project, Flow Pilot was able to save water, improve crop yields, and help support sustainable agriculture. For example, this testing supports the potential of IoT with LoRaWAN technologies, such as the Flow Pilot implementation, for a game change in conventional irrigation practices into a modern, scalable, and reliable solution.

While Internet of Things has high affinity with houses and ability of customization, the customization process is complicated and hard for people not familiar with programming. Previous research reports that senior adults can independently come up with ideas by using cards. Three types of user interface were developed for experimental purpose to explore suitable user interface for senior adults;Voice recognition, touch interface, and image recognition. As a result, this study revealed that voice recognition was the most suitable. Furthermore, the results indicated that iterative interaction with Internet of Things may suggest image recognition with higher acceptance.

Modern production systems demands advanced data networking. Concepts like the unified namespace help in reconfiguring the data flow of different hierarchy levels into a centralized data space. This data space connects data stakeholders, including Manufacturing Execution system and Supervisory control and Data Acquisition systems on one side, and assets, sensors, and actuators on the other. The lack of standardization leads to individualistic solutions in the existing solutions. The concept of the Asset Administration Shell provides standardization for asset-specific data. This paper presents the design and implementation of a “AAS-based Unified Namespace” concept leveraging the Asset Administration Shell, along with a standardized structure based on ISA-95. The focus of this work is on the effective handling of event data for its relevance in real-time decision-making. Therefore, we focus on the effective handling of event data.

Urban traffic congestion is still a major problem that causes delays, collisions, and wasteful use of resources. Conventional fixed-schedule systems, which frequently exacerbate problems at junctions, U-turns, and pedestrian crossings, are insufficient for dynamic traffic situations. The Smart Dynamic Traffic Management system described in this work makes use of servo motors, proximity sensors and ultrasonic sensors, Arduino microcontrollers, and AI-powered cameras. To improve safety and streamline traffic flow, the system prioritizes emergency vehicles, controls U-turns, dynamically modifies traffic signals based on real-time data, and monitors road conditions. Scalability and adaptability for a range of urban scenarios are ensured by the integration of IoT technology and intelligent intercommunication between crossings. A visualization tool based on Pygame was used to simulate and assess the suggested solution. The findings showed that traffic flow had significantly improved, with an average increase in the exit-to-entry ratio of 30.71% for the three roadways. More specifically, traffic on Road A decreased by 15.28%, on Road B decreased by 31.25% and on Road C decreased by 45.61%. The outcomes confirm just how well the system works for reducing traffic and giving priorities to critical traffic situations, such as emergency response and turning. This system uniquely integrates real-time adaptive traffic control algorithms with IoT and machine learning to dynamically prioritize traffic flow and emergency vehicles, overcoming the limitations of existing static systems

The realization of 3D triangulation measurements in inhomogeneous media is challenging, as the sensor light path is not necessarily rectilinear anymore and the triangulation principle is violated. An exemplary measurement scenario under inhomogeneous optical conditions is the geometry characterization through an inspection window. The discrete refractive index variation from air to inspection window and back to air (or even water) can require complicated light path modeling approaches in order to triangulate 3D surface data correctly. As commonly used entocentric lenses\fan out" the projected light rays, the rays' incidence angles onto the refractive index interface are not constant, and the rays are individually deflected. In consequence, the typically used camera pinhole model does not apply anymore, or can only approximate the actual light path under refraction. In this paper, we present a structured light sensor concept for measurements through inspection windows, which does not require a special adaption of the light path model. The key is the application of a telecentric stereo camera pair and high-quality optical inspection windows. It can be shown theoretically, that no additional parameters are necessary to model light refraction induced by a plane-parallel plate - such as a window -, when used in combination with a telecentric lens. Next to the affine stereo camera pair, the sensor comprises an entocentric projector unit as feature generator. In previous work, the projector was calibrated with refraction model in order to provide a 3D point cloud basis for the affine camera calibration.1 In the new approach, the projector is merely used as feature generator to solve the correspondence problem between the affine stereo camera pair. With the improvement and constantly updating of positioning technology, the requirement for positioning accuracy is also getting higher. UWB is a key positioning technology for the complex environment, Firstly, qualitative analysis of all kinds of errors in UWB indoor positioning is enumerated. And based on different fusion algorithms integrated positioning system is introduced. Finally, multi-data fusion positioning error correction method based on UWB and integrated ROS system is put forward. This proposed model has better robust, which can make full advantage of the positioning advantages of UWB, IMU and SLAM sensors, combined with Kalman Filter algorithm to solve the problem of low positioning accuracy of single sensor in complex environment. © 2021 IEEE.
