The paper analyzes the motion of a six-degree-of-freedom (6 DoF) industrial robotic arm using a simulation environment with added sensors and Data Acquisition (DAQ) system. An accurate 3D assembly model of the 6R industrial robot was designed and tested. The output result of the project is the forward and inverse kinematic conversions using software and hardware modules and the user interface highlights the analysis results of the motion. The coordinates of the robot are set by a hand-controlled accelerometer, reading the signals by DAQ system. The achievements of the study are based on three folds: advanced training in mechatronics engineering, can contribute to designing more efficient performance-orientated DAQ systems for signal processing, and improve hand-controlled manipulators technology or control of robotic arms. © 2023 Warsaw University of Technology, Institute of Electronic systems.

In the field of biosensing, high-quality biological samples are a prerequisite for precise analysis and detection. Strictly controlled storage temperature is crucial to ensure the stability of biological samples and achieve effective detection. Different biological samples require different temperature ranges for storage. Therefore, it is essential to design a temperature monitoring and alarm system capable of alarming based on different needs. This work presents a real-time temperature monitoring and alarm system based on the DS18B20 temperature sensor and FPGA chip. The system with simple structures has a wide temperature measurement range, an adjustable temperature alarm range, and a timely alarm function for various scenarios monitoring. This work demonstrates the temperature monitoring and alarm system for simple, accurate, and low-cost modes of temperature monitoring. The real-time temperature monitoring and alarm system will provide an effective means to strictly control the storage temperature of different biological samples, ensuring the stability and effectiveness of biological samples and the accuracy and sensitivity of biosensing and analysis. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. This paper designs and implements the perception layer, network layer and application layer in the framework of environmental monitoring system. To minimize the bit error rate of free space optical communication (FSO) system under the limitation of multi-mode Gaussian background optical noise field and the energy efficiency of the received optical signal, an adaptive photoelectric array signal processing algorithm for intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) is proposed. Design and implement sensor data acquisition circuit, main control processor and peripheral circuit, system communication interface circuit in environmental monitoring system hardware. The data storage part mainly realizes the storage and processing of data, which involves cloud platform technology. The server platform realizes the final webpage display and large screen display, and the key technologies are communication technology. The analysis and simulation results show that the system can greatly reduce the computational complexity while the performance loss is almost negligible. © 2023 IEEE.

High-resolution micro-displacement detection plays a pivotal role in the realm of bridge health monitoring. Capacitive micro-displacement sensors stand out among contact measurement methods due to their high detection resolution but are limited by measurement range. This paper proposes a high-sensitivity and wide-range micro-displacement measurement technique by combining microfluidic system and planar interdigital capacitor performance optimization methods. Through analysis and simulation of the interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) sensor under diverse electrode configurations, the 8-pair electrode design can reach a peak sensitivity of 0.124 pF/mm across the 0 to 50 mm detection range with a resolution of 4 mu m. To further boost the performance of the proposed microdisplacement measurement method, the integration of fractal structures into the electrode design has been explored, demonstrating a remarkable 1.5-fold sensitivity increase and a higher resolution of 2.6 mu m compared to IDE-based sensors of identical order. Besides, we designed an S-shaped microchannel deployed in areas with a strong electric field between electrodes, which has yielded an excellent linear response within a range of 0 to 4 mm and a nearly 2 times sensitivity enhancement. The research presented in this work may potentially contribute to the development of novel sensing methodologies for enhanced microdisplacement detection in bridge structures, ultimately leading to more accurate, efficient, and reliable structural health monitoring systems.

This article presents an improved position control method of an overhang-type rail system considering a curved path. The designed system is driven by two BLAC (brushless ac) motors, and the moving position is controlled based on the signal from a simple Hall position sensor mounted on the motor without any absolute position sensors. The rail is composed of both linear and curved paths. For the linear rail, the two motors are controlled to rotate in the same speed. However, in a curved path, the two motors must have different moving distance according to the curvature. Generally, in order to determine the proper motion commands for both traction motors, the actual curvature state and position have to be detected by a potentiometer or an encoder equipped with linear position sensor, but this method significantly increases complexity and cost of the system. This article aims to solve this problem by using a low-cost semiconductor IMU (inertia measurement unit) to estimate the actual rail condition. The IMU will then estimate the heading angle variation to compensate the motion commands for the two BLAC motors without any additional external absolute sensors. As a result, a balanced and improved motion can be achieved for an arbitrary rail path. Practical experiments using an overhang-type rail traction system were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. The results show the advanced control performance in both linear and curved path, and also a smooth transition between them both.

The possibility of comparing, storing and analyzing values obtained by pressure sensors is of great interest for research related to the oil and gas industry, since the accuracy of the collected values is of fundamental importance in tasks such as process control, production, detection and correction. of leaks. This work proposes the development of a system that allows identifying measurement errors in pressure transducers through the collection of analog signals, enabling the experience through a user interface. The complete solution integrates hardware and software elements where the signals obtained by two pairs of different pressure sensors are conditioned through amplifier circuits, sent to the computer through serial communication, and presented in a graphic interface. It allows to compute the average pressure per time, to storage collected data, to analyze quality of sensors and to study the margin of error. © 2023 IEEE.

Optical sensors are quickly evolving to meet the fast-paced demands of smartphones and mobile devices. These increasingly sophisticated sensors include multi-channel ambient light sensors and integrated sensor modules, with continuous improvements in sensor sensitivity, accuracy, and dynamic range performance. With billions of devices manufactured per year, test throughput, repeatability, stability, and accuracy are critical to success. Current production test systems use traditional sources (bulbs or individual LEDs) or multiple LED based simulation systems, but these have limitations (high variability, insufficient throughput, and low resolution) making them unable to efficiently meet the test needs of the advanced optical sensors being developed and deployed. We explore the system architecture of a novel high fidelity light source capable of creating, matching, and replicating spectra over the wavelength range of 380 to 780nm with 4.5nm FWHM resolution. This capability gives the ability to generate a near-infinite number of spectra ranging from incandescent to a highly structured source such as a compact fluorescent lamp. The system integrates a high brightness Laser Driven Light Source (TM) and a proprietary high throughput spectral light engine to achieve the needed repeatability, stability, and dynamic range performance. The instrument was developed with automated test in mind and offers an easy-to-use application interface for system configuration, output characterization, creation and matching of test spectra, and storage of matched spectra to the instrument. The embedded controller deploys application firmware with onboard algorithms, data management, controls, system monitoring, a communications API, and a TTL interface for test system integration. Instrument architecture decisions and performance data such as repeatability, resolution, stability, and dynamic range will be presented.

Bed sensor systems are useful for measuring sleep states in cognitively impaired older adults because they can measure unrestrained individuals. However, there are no criteria for identifying sleep abnormalities using them. We developed a method to determine sleep abnormalities by analysing data collected by a bed sensor system using a self-organizing map (SOM). In this study, the sleep states were measured in two cognitively impaired care-facility residents. These recordings were used to calculate total nocturnal sleep time, wake time after sleep onset, frequency of leaving the bed, and frequency of awakening in the bed for each day. The data from these four variables were used to draw an SOM for each individual’s sleep state to identify normal or abnormal sleep days. We visually determined whether a main cluster was formed in the SOM. If a main cluster was formed, the days included in the main cluster were defined as the individual's normal days, while other days were defined as the individual's abnormal days. The above parameters were independently compared between the two groups, as determined by the SOM. The characteristics of abnormal sleep days identified by SOM could be explained using these four variables, suggesting the effectiveness of identifying abnormal days by SOM. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

A Framework for Sensitivity Analysis of Real-Time Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) systems

Power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) simulation leverages the advanced real-time emulation based technique to carry out in-depth investigations on novel real-world power components. Power amplifiers, sensors, and signal conversion units based power interfaces (PI) incorporate physical hardware systems and real-time simulation platforms into PHIL setups. However, the employment of any interfacing technique inevitably introduces disturbances such as sensor noise, switching harmonics, or quantization noise to PHIL systems. To facilitate quantitatively analyzing and assessing the impact of external disturbances on PHIL simulation systems, a framework for sensitivity analysis of PHIL setups has been developed in this paper. Detailed modelling principles related to the sensitivity analysis of PHIL systems and the inherent relationship between sensitivity transfer functions and stability criteria are elaborated along with theoretical and experimental validation. Based on this concept, accuracy assessment methods are employed in this framework to quantify generic sensitivity criteria. Moreover, physical passive load and converter-based PHIL setups are applied and experimental results are presented to characterize and demonstrate the applicability of the proposed framework.
