The rapid development of wearable electronic devices and human-machine interfaces poses significant challenges to the development of flexible and deformable tactile sensors that are efficient, ultra-sensitive, environmentally resistant, and self-sustainable. This paper reports an ultra-sensitive micro cone-patterned hydrogel tactile sensor (MCHS) based on triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) for human motion monitoring and human-machine interfaces (HMI). Based on the coupling of triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction, this sensor can detect slight variation of pressure without external power supply. Hydrogel electrode with conical microstructure array was obtained by Micro-Electro-Mechanical-system (MEMS)-enabled process and chemical synthesis. Due to the existence of highly deformable micro-cones, the MCHS maintains excellent sensitivity, compared with the flat hydrogel electrode in a widened detection range (20 Pa-5000 Pa). Moreover, after proper treatment, the proposed hydrogel shows remarkable long-term anti-freezing and anti-dehydrating performances. In addition, with the assistance of signal processing circuit, this excellent self-powered sensor supports real-time gesture recognition and convenient unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control, demonstrating its great potential in wearable electronics and interactive human-machine interfaces. © 2023 IEEJ.

Pressure injuries in long-term care facilities present a significant problem for the well-being of bedridden patients and the overall cost of the healthcare systems. Mitigating risks of pressure injury formation might be possible through monitoring and control of the main extrinsic factors that cause them, including temperature, humidity, and normal and shear loads at the skin-support surface interface. An instrumented soft robotic pad system serving as a support surface is a potential solution. In this work, we present the design of two-degree-of-freedom soft actuators that when combined in a grid form an instrumented soft pad. The actuators have integrated humidity sensor, thermistor, and embedded force sensitive resistor (FSR). We investigate the optimal placement of the embedded sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, and applied normal loads during various actuation modes. We utilize a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network to obtain estimated values of humidity and temperature at the expected contact interface, and also estimates of the normal loads exerted on the soft actuators under various actuation configurations that affect raw FSR sensor measurements. The developed system can be potentially used to monitor and mitigate pressure injuries risks factors in long-term care patients and enhance the quality of care of those patients.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a Smart-drip Infusion Monitoring system incorporating various sensors and IoT technologies. The system aims to enhance intravenous infusion monitoring by providing precise control and timely alerts during the infusion process. The load cell sensor measures fluid volume, while the air bubble detection sensor detects air bubble status in the intravenous line, ensuring accurate and safe medication delivery. The Arduino Uno coordinates sensor data acquisition, processing, and infusion control, dynamically adjusting the solenoid valve to maintain the prescribed infusion rate. Additionally, the buzzer alerts healthcare providers to critical events such as dose completion or system malfunctions. This integrated approach offers a comprehensive solution for optimizing intravenous therapy, enhancing patient safety, and improving healthcare outcomes.

The future development of gardening consulting services will be facilitated by the combination of wireless sensor networks (WSN) and Cloud Computing, representing a state-of-the-art technological advancement. The technique utilizes wireless sensors deployed in gardens to collect real-time data on the temperature of the soil, moisture, and sunlight. This data is then sent to a cloud-based framework for analysis and storage. The data may be accessed from any location with a connection to the internet. The system processes and analyzes the data, enabling an advanced gardening chatbot to provide personalized advice using the huge computational capabilities of the cloud. The user is provided with timely guidance tailored to the unique conditions of their garden, facilitating optimal plant maintenance, efficient pest control, and conformance to seasonal patterns. The integration of WSN with the cloud's computing capabilities enhances the adaptability of the system, allowing it to evolve in response to changing environmental dynamics. This novel approach transforms traditional gardening guidance into a data-centric and contextually aware encounter, facilitating the emergence of an era characterized by intelligent horticulture. © 2024 IEEE.

We implemented a Bluetooth Low Energy system concerning the acquisition, encryption, wireless transmission, and reconstruction of the electromyographic signal for prosthetic control. The system is expandable with other devices supporting Bluetooth and is a valuable alternative to the current proprietary implantable EMG systems, which use restricted protocols and ignore data security. The adopted system-in-package has ultra-small dimensions and encloses an integrated antenna, thus additional space in the implant or the prosthesis is not required. It includes peripherals embodying advanced solutions for buffering the signal and prosthetic control, including wired digital protocols, Bluetooth, and analog signal reconstruction features. All this embracing the development for the next generation of myoelectric prosthetic control. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the effective management of liquid levels in industrial settings is crucial for ensuring operational safety, productivity, and resource conservation. The water level control problem is a common issue in the industry, which has been thoroughly examined in various studies. This paper specifically concentrates on developing and executing a water level control system based on a Programmable Logic controller (PLC). The paper has one main goal designing the PLC- based control model for tank level control for a couple of tank systems. This paper is centered on the deployment of a MIMO as well as SISO liquid level monitoring system utilizing Programmable Logic controller (PLC) technologies to develop a sophisticated control system that can accurately measure and regulate liquid levels in tanks or containers. sensors are utilized to collect precise level data, which is then processed by the PLC to activate control mechanisms. PLC can provide a user-easy control interface.

Agricultural production contributes significantly to the country's economy. Bangladesh is an agriculturally dominant country and 70% of people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. But nowadays, urban people are far away from agriculture due to lack of space and time. Soil moisture content in land and rooftop gardens is influenced by natural factors like rainfall and groundwater, but rooftop gardens often rely on manual watering due to limited access to natural water sources, and their water filtration processes vary based on soil types, textures, and pores. 'Botanika' such an IoT enabled remote sensing system which presents a comprehensive solution for monitoring soil parameters in rooftop gardens. Internet of Things (IoT) is an advanced technology for monitoring and controlling device anywhere in the world. Through in-situ calibration by an in-house soil profiling probe, it ensures accurate and reliable data collection, optimal plant growth. The accompanying android app enables users to effortlessly monitor soil moisture levels remotely. By integrating sensors and advanced technology, it offers real-time insights into crucial factors such as soil moisture, soil temperature, temperature, humidity, and rainfall. This innovative solution enhances crop health and productivity in urban agriculture. With its user- friendly interface, Botanika empowers gardeners to efficiently manage their rooftop gardens with precision. Embracing sustainability, this IoT-enabled soil profiling probe promotes green spaces utilization and food production on rooftops, contributing to a more resilient and eco-friendly urban environment. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, a multi-degree-of-freedom (Multi-DOF) robot (MDR) system based on a LightGBM-driven electroencephalogram (EEG) decoding model is designed and developed to assist subjects with hand motor dysfunction in their daily activities and neurorehabilitation. The system mainly consists of a motor imagery electroencephalogram (MI-EEG) evoking layer, an intention decoding layer, and an interaction executive layer. The MI-EEG evoking layer initially displays a virtual reality (VR) motion imagination scenario, instructing the subjects to imagine a real hand gripping movement, simultaneously collecting the electrical EEG signals and preprocessing the EEG signals. Secondly, in the intention decoding layer, a network combining temporal-spectral feature fusion and LightGBM (TSFF-LightGBM) for MI-BCI classification is used to more effectively boost brain decoding accuracy and decrease decoding time. Finally, in the interaction executive layer, the Multi-DOF wearable robot is developed to offer hand grasp motion kinesthetic feedback and visual feedback synced with MI. The following are the key benefits of the proposed MDR system: (1) We propose a new lightweight network structure more suitable for brain computer interface (BCI) interaction systems, achieving more accurate decoding and shorter identification time in different data sets, which helps to improve the practicability of the system and promote the practical clinical application of BCI rehabilitation technology. (2) We integrate BCI, VR, a wearable Multi-DOF robot, motion kinesthetic feedback, and visual feedback to improve human-machine interaction. Compared to the most recent investigations, the average accuracy of the MDR system on the publicly accessible datasets BCI IV 2a and HGD reached 75.89% and 93.53%, respectively. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

This paper proposes a Distributed Moving Horizon Estimator (DMHE) for the Multi-Vehicle system localization problem using sensor Networks with sporadic measurements. Due to its capability to efficiently exploit environmental information via constraints, the proposed DHME technique is well-suited to better estimate the system state when measurements are available at time instants a priori unknown. Indeed, the use of output constraints can contribute to locally improve estimation accuracy, especially when dealing with sporadic measurements and biased sensors data. A realistic case study is proposed within the Robot Operating system framework and Gazebo to localize a Multi-Vehicle system using an inexpensive sensor Network with low-computation capabilities. A comparative campaign simulation is performed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed DMHE algorithm in terms of accuracy, computation time, and constraints handling with respect to existing results.
