An IoT-enabled automation system aims to develop an innovative smart-home automation system using Arduino technology to optimize residential living in terms of convenience, security and energy efficiency. By integrating sensors, actuators, and a user-friendly interface, the system allows homeowners to control and monitor appliances and devices remotely, creating a personalized and adaptable living environment. The hardware design involves assembling an Arduino-based circuit that interacts with sensors and actuators, while the software development focuses on programming the Arduino to interpret data and execute commands. A mobile or web interface serves as the user platform for seamless remote control. system integration ensures the smooth operation of all components within a cohesive smart home network, while rigorous testing and evaluation guarantee functionality, reliability, and safety. In the optimization process of adaptive filtering algorithms, nonlinear objective functions are often encountered. Quaternion is used as a new mathematical model in the adaptive filtering algorithm based on vector sensing. A nonlinear adaptive filtering algorithm and its application based on quaternion-valued chain rules are proposed and implemented. Then the quaternion-valued hyperbolic tangent function is employed as the output nonlinear constraint function, the gradient of its cost function is solved, and then the iterative formula of the weight coefficient vector of array is obtained. As the input signal receiver of the vector sensor array, the crossed dipole antenna pairs have been used in the quaternion-valued nonlinear adaptive beamforming algorithm to form an array system to process incident signals. Through Matlab simulation results, it is verified that the quaternion-valued nonlinear adaptive beamforming algorithm can be applied in the vector-senor array to receive desired signals and suppress interferences. © 2022 IEEE.

This study addresses the challenge of optimizing high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) by proposing a low-cost, high-precision embedded capacitive sensor system for monitoring resin flow. The system uses an FDC2214 capacitive-to-digital converter for signal generation and a PLC for signal acquisition, with protocol conversion enabling communication. A custom PLC program and interface allow real-time capacitance data collection and display. Resin flow into the sensor area causes measurable capacitance changes, enabling visual monitoring. An experimental setup with a transparent mold validated the system, showing minimal error between observed and measured flow front positions. This work improves HP-RTM quality control, boosts product quality and efficiency, and enhances the competitiveness of HP-RTM technology.

In this paper, a high-resolution interface circuit for resistive gas sensor is proposed. The circuit is based on resistance-to-frequency conversion which uses a buffer to keep the voltage across the gas sensor unchanged in order to eliminate the influence of voltage change on sensing material. The circuit has been fabricated in a 0.18 um CMOS technology with 1.8 V power supply. The area of the chip including PAD is only 640 um × 550 um. The experimental results report that the Pearson Correlation Coefficient is 0.99998 between the period of output signal and resistance when the measured resistance range is 500 Ω to 10 MΩ with corresponding signal frequency range of 1.23 MHz to 137 Hz. The interface circuit can detect the minimum change of 1 Ω resistance at a measured resistance of 500 Ω and 8.5 KΩ resistance at a measured resistance of 10 MΩ. For static gas, the chip can detect the ethanol gas concentration of 0 to 200 ppm and can detect a gas concentration change of 20 ppb at a low concentration. © 2021 IEEE.

A flexible active-matrix piezoelectric tactile sensor array is fabricated and affixed on the back of a hand to monitor the location and deformation of the extensor-tendons associated with a hand gesture. Based on the same thin-film transistor technology, an artificial neural network (ANN) allowing real-time and near-sensor classification of sensor signals is implemented. The integration of the tactile sensor array and an ANN facilitates the development of a compact human-machine interface system for recognition of hand gestures and their mimicry by a robotic hand.

controlling the moisture content in paddy seeds during the drying process is crucial to ensure the quality of the seeds. Although the capacitance technique can provide a straightforward moisture content detection based on the change in the seeds' dielectric properties, capacitance drift in the sensing circuit due to the temperature can affect the detection accuracy. In this work, we investigate the capacitance drift of a custom-made LC resonant-based capacitance sensor caused by the temperature from 30 to 70 °C. The capacitance of the sensor's electrodes is simulated using a finite element method, and the sensor is implemented in a printed circuit board. A differential capacitance technique is proposed to mitigate the temperature drift in the capacitance sensor where the capacitance drift is reduced by four times to 4.9 fF/°C. The differential capacitance technique showed a promising approach to enable a simple temperature compensation technique in a paddy seeds' moisture content detection system using the LC resonant-based capacitance sensor.

In recent years, brain-based technologies that capitalise on human abilities to facilitate human-system/robot interactions have been actively explored, especially in brain robotics. Brain-computer interfaces, as applications of this conception, have set a path to convert neural activities recorded by sensors from the human scalp via electroencephalography into valid commands for robot control and task execution. Thanks to the advancement of sensor technologies, non-invasive and invasive sensor headsets have been designed and developed to achieve stable recording of brainwave signals. However, robust and accurate extraction and interpretation of brain signals in brain robotics are critical to reliable task-oriented and opportunistic applications such as brainwave-controlled robotic interactions. In response to this need, pervasive technologies and advanced analytical approaches to translating and merging critical brain functions, behaviours, tasks, and environmental information have been a focus in brain-controlled robotic applications. These methods are composed of signal processing, feature extraction, representation of neural activities, command conversion and robot control. Artificial intelligence algorithms, especially deep learning, are used for the classification, recognition, and identification of patterns and intent underlying brainwaves as a form of electroencephalography. Within the context, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the past and the current status at the intersection of robotics, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence and highlights future research directions.

This research presents a real-time vital sign monitoring system utilizing IoT and wearable technology aiming to provide continuous health monitoring. The system is developed using an ESP32 microcontroller unit (MCU) integrated with various biomedical and environmental sensors including an ECG sensor, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, gyroscope sensor, SPO2 sensor, and heartbeat sensor. A 16x2 LCD provides local feedback, while a buzzer alerts users to abnormal conditions. To facilitate remote monitoring, NODEMCU (ESP8266) serves as a communication gateway, connecting the system to the IoT platform UBIDOTS. Through UBIDOTS, the system transmits vital data to cloud storage in real-time, enabling healthcare professionals and caretakers to monitor patients remotely. This solution is designed to support the early detection of critical health issues, improve patient outcomes, and enhance accessibility to health monitoring through scalable IoT solutions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed system effectively monitors vital signs, sending alerts and updating data in real-time demonstrating its potential in wearable health monitoring applications.
