The sensorQuad is designed as a low cost teaching platform for embedded programming. It focuses on students of mechanical engineering, especially in the field of automation, that need to understand the concepts of control systems. It allows to show the basics, then develop the skills further for example with DC motor control, sensor communication, to more advanced topics such as for example PID control. It uses an STM32 processor, four DC motors, LEDs and several sensors (acceleration, magnetic field, temperature, humidity,...). Commented examples are provided to students to shown how to work with the peripherals. It is designed as a low cost device, so that the student can eventually buy it and use it at home as well. It is also provided with an example application for Android so that the programming of a control interface and bidirectional Bluetooth communication can be shown as well.

an intelligent sensor is the integration of an analog or digital sensor or actuator element, a processing unit, and communication interface. Instrumentation that convert the signal to engineering units must know a few things about what parameters to expect from the sensor. That's because full-scale range, sensitivity, connection schemes and other factors all vary greatly for each kind of sensor with monitoring and control electronics. This configuration process can be problematic when gangs of sensors get wired into multichannel measurement systems. Plug and play sensors address the labor involved in connection and configuration. This paper describes an open source implementation which mimics the IEEE 1451.4 standard and provides a platform for transducer configuration as an application of the concept of the plug and play. In particular, an analog sensor that is used as an example, serial connections, and ID of the sensor that is used to mark a specific sensor for automatic identification. An Arduino Uno board was used for this purpose, as well as corresponding software in C# programming language to store the sensor configuration to achieve auto configuration and to display the reading of the sensor. This was demonstrated by a working system which displayed the readings on a Graphical User interface. © 2021 IEEE.

Water quality monitoring is a crucial aspect of public health, particularly in mitigating the risks associated with waterborne diseases and ensuring safe drinking water. Traditional monitoring methods are often labor-intensive, costly, and lack real-time capabilities, making them unsuitable for widespread and rural deployment. This paper examines the integration of advanced technologies, specifically the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML), to design a sophisticated, low-cost water quality monitoring system. Leveraging an array of sensors, including pH, turbidity, temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), and dissolved oxygen (DO), combined with the advanced embedded processor, the system ensures seamless data acquisition and processing. IoT enables continuous remote monitoring, while ML algorithms provide predictive analytics and intelligent anomaly detection to identify potential contaminants and trends. These value-driven solutions underscore the transformative potential of advanced technologies in revolutionizing water quality assessment. This review article carefully reviews the available literature on water quality assessment in order to lay out an assortment of conclusions on the concerns, problems, challenges, and research gaps that have emerged during the last few years. Research gaps are identified by thoroughly examining the previously suggested methodologies. The study presented in this article primarily identified the problems with the accuracy of the models, the generation of data collection mechanisms, and the types of data that were used in the suggested frameworks. Subsequently, research avenues towards smart water quality monitoring are offered by examining key concepts crucial to the expansion of this field of research.

This paper presents the development of a 64-channel fully implantable neural signal recording and processing system. The system is designed with hermetically sealed, commercial off-the-shelf components to enable neural signal acquisition, wireless transmitting and wireless charging. Additionally, an artificial neural network was implemented on the hardware to create a standalone, comprehensive brain signal decoding system. A silicon-based microelectrode array, fabricated with MEMS process and assembled into 3D floating form by stacking planar silicon probes, was attached to the system to sense neural signals. The whole system was militarized packaged into a medical-scale titanium case and embedded onto skull for brain-computer interface (BCI) applications. The study demonstrates the feasibility and potential of this advanced technology for neural signal recording and processing in a fully implantable system.

The evolution of robots is continuously advancing to greater heights. Virtual reality as a tool provides an immersive experience in a 3D environment that allows users to visualise and interact with robots in such environments. This human-robot interaction benefits users with better situational awareness to effectively perform remote tasks. This paper proposes a seamless teleoperation pipeline that interfaces virtual reality with robots for precision agriculture tasks. This pipeline allows users to visualise and control robots from a virtual environment thereby giving a telepresence advantage to users. Robotics Operating system (ROS) is utilised to accept data from a Unity gaming platform. A jackal robot and panda robotic manipulator equipped with the required sensors are utilised to evaluate this pipeline. The camera data, odometry data, velocity data and joystick commands are interchanged between the virtual environment and real platforms. Further evaluation is conducted for 6DoF pose application where a target fruit pose is estimated and manipulated within the virtual world while imitating similar actions in the real world to grasp/harvest the fruit. This attempt exhibit the possibility of remote agricultural task through this pipeline. The results of the evaluation prove the efficiency and robustness of the pipeline. © 2023 IEEE.

The traffic problems are accelerating due to an increase in the number of vehicles on the road. Consequently, the availability of vacant parking slots has long been a frustrating and time-consuming challenge for drivers, especially in metropolitan areas. Searching for vacant parking space is a prevalent issue thus affecting the mental health of the drivers and also leading to the wastage of the fuel consumed while searching for the available parking slot. This situation creates the need for some smart that can address the parking problem faced by the drivers. Hence, this study proposes an IoT-based smart solution named Quick Park which is a smart parking finder application. The system incorporates strategically placed sensors in parking areas, which communicate with a mobile application to provide real-time information on parking availability. By leveraging sensor technology, drivers can easily and quickly locate vacant parking spots, eliminating the need for aimless driving and uncertainty. The proposed IoT-based smart parking system will offer a reliable and efficient solution to address the limitations of existing systems. The sensor-enabled smart parking finder presents a convenient and effective solution to the problem of finding parking spaces, ultimately improving the efficiency and ease of urban mobility. The deployment of the proposed solution will lead to the efficient utilization of resources and it will also contribute towards the improvement of the mental health of drivers by relieving the stress of the scarcity of parking space. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents a foot-operated telelocomotion interface designed for use with avatar robots, with the humanoid robot TOCABI. The system features the mobile platforms equipped with Mecanum wheel and a telelocomotion interface utilizing the Rudder pedals. The design takes into consideration the limitations imposed by the haptic device worn by the operator, which restricts the use of traditional input methods such as keyboards and joysticks. The telelo-comotion interface was evaluated in comparison to other systems from teams participating in the ANA Avatar XPRIZE finals, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art telelocomotion interface for avatar robots and highlighting the unique features of the system presented in this paper. The results of this study have implications for the design of future telelocomotion interface for avatar robots.

Traditional power grids have been predominantly one-way delivery systems. Recently, a two-way power delivery and communication system has been proposed to be incorporated into the current power grid system, thereby establishing a Smart Grid, to alleviate the challenges associated with one-way systems. The advanced system includes a large number of sensors deployed at multiple locations and consumer sites (e.g. Smart Meters) for monitoring usage and faults. The two-way communication infrastructure provides the utility control centers with the means to collect data on power usage from the smart meters, along with the ability to communicate back operation-critical information and control actions to their client's smart meters, thus establishing an infrastructure for both monitoring and controlling different services on the grid. In this paper, we suggest a framework of the network model for analyzing the performance of bidirectional data communication in the advanced metering infrastructure, along with our future directions.

Photonic integrated circuits provide compact and efficient solutions for multimodal spectroscopic sensors. However, the resulting sensory data is highly complex and contains significant redundancy. To circumvent high communication cost for redundancy, the photonic sensor and processor are brought into intimacy and propose a photonic multimodal edge computing system. A microring resonator crossbar is used as photonic processor with 5-bit accuracy. The in-situ processing of sensory data is demonstrated in this system, achieving a classification accuracy of 94.27% across 45 different classes. The multimodal edge computing system demonstrates the feasibility of integrating photonic processors and photonic sensors to enhance the photonic data processing capability.
