Drawing inspiration from the efficient information collection capability of the star-nosed mole, this paper proposes a spatial exploration biomimetic soft robot equipped with a polydimethylsiloxane-polyethylene terephthalate cylindrical tactile sensor based on bilayer single-electrode triboelectric nanogenerators. According to the biological structure of the star-nosed mole, a pneumatic driving platform was designed, and a constant curvature model for robot motion control was established to provide position information for the contact point between the sensor and the external environment. Complemented by a cylindrical tactile sensor array, the system has completed several different spatial exploration tasks, offering a novel solution for future environmental detection endeavors.

The stable operation of multiple equipment in the converter station can ensure the safety of the DC transmission system. Once the fault occurs, it will pose a threat to the safety and stability of the power grid. It is necessary to monitor the running state of all kinds of equipment, and study the monitoring system of the running state data of the converter station equipment based on sensor information and a three-dimensional positioning algorithm. In terms of hardware design, TCP and IP communication protocols are used to connect the sensors, and the sensors are arranged according to the vibration conduction standard, constituting a three-layer monitoring architecture of monitoring center, sensor, and equipment. The sensor module is connected by interface, and the structure of the connecting control board for sensor data transmission is set to increase the flexibility of sensor nodes. In software design, the basic information of converter station equipment is corresponding to sensor technology, and the database of operating equipment is established. A three-dimensional positioning algorithm is used to determine the data output form, detect the running state data of the converter station equipment, and complete the system design. The experiment takes various types of running data as the test object. Under the system application in this paper, different running data can be correctly classified and data monitoring under various states can be realized, which has application value. © 2024 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The development of maritime transport is characterized by the use of a wide variety of ships and marine equipment. Increasing their efficiency requires the use of SCADA, with the help of which thousands of parameters are controlled. SCADA systems solve the following tasks: hierarchical control, analysis and arrangement of controlled parameters, creation of a database, a system for diagnostics of ship equipment. The article discusses the main features of the SCADA created by the authors, with the main attention being paid to the interface. The research shows that synchronization is crucial for reducing power disturbances and assuring the dependability of shipboard electrical systems. While automatic synchronization shows promise, our studies reveal areas that need improvement, namely with sensor precision and timing inconsistencies. By providing these data, we enhance the comprehension of how synchronization affects the safety and operational efficiency of maritime vessels, emphasizing the necessity for continuous improvement of shipboard power systems. This paper contributes to the field of electrical engineering by highlighting the importance of improving synchronization techniques for marine applications and other industries that depend on dispersed power systems.

Eco-efficient anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) can eliminate toxic nutrients from wastewater and has been used in several nutrient removal technologies. However, its implementation for robust operation remains challenging because of process nonlinearity and time-variant characteristic, higher energy consumption, excess sludge produced, and biomass loss during sludge pumping. Also, sensor failure, process startup, and shut down present additional difficulties. In this article, an intelligent human-machine interface using an advanced numerical solution for a knowledge-based system (called ANKSys) was developed by integrating the fully optimized-functionality (soft sensing, decision making, and simulating model) data driven by supervisory control. This control consists of advanced algorithms (artificial neural network, Kalman filter, principal component analysis, least-square technique/renowned root-mean-squared error) using commercial software (MATLAB R2018a, Microsoft Visual Studio IDE 2016, Microsoft SQL Server 2014, OPC Automation with XGT series programmable logic controller). The developed ANKSys can help in online monitoring and optimal process operation by assessing risk and failure occurrences, acquiring data for data analysis, and managing operating expenditure. In real-time implementation, ANKSys enhanced the energy efficiency, i.e., 16% of a pilot-scale "LEAOX" wastewater treatment plant located at Daegu, Republic of Korea. Using this strategy, an optimal and sustainable operation for the removal of biological nitrogen was achieved.

A flexible active-matrix piezoelectric tactile sensor array is fabricated and affixed on the back of a hand to monitor the location and deformation of the extensor-tendons associated with a hand gesture. Based on the same thin-film transistor technology, an artificial neural network (ANN) allowing real-time and near-sensor classification of sensor signals is implemented. The integration of the tactile sensor array and an ANN facilitates the development of a compact human-machine interface system for recognition of hand gestures and their mimicry by a robotic hand. © 2025 IEEE.

The e2DriveR&D initiative addresses the critical need for improved urban mobility solutions for people with physical disabilities. This project involves the development of an innovative electric vehicle (EV) equipped with an intelligent driver control system, focusing particularly on the integration of a smart sensor system designed to enhance safety and mobility for drivers with reduced physical capabilities. In this article, we explore the advanced research and technological design of the smart sensor system integrated within the e2Drivevehicle. The system incorporates a range of sensors to monitor vital signs such as heart rate, breathing rhythm, eye blinking, real-time driving patterns through an On Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) sensor, and the status of the lock mechanism for the wheelchair. An associated mobile app is designed to alert predefined contacts or emergency services when anomalies are detected, thereby significantly enhancing driver safety. Tests demonstrated the system's efficacy in monitoring driving behavior and vital signs, with the alert system effectively warning of detected anomalies, confirming its potential to significantly improve the safety and health monitoring of physically disabled drivers. The huge potential of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for detecting driving anomalies (fatigue or health issues) remains promising for future enhancements.

This work presents the calibration of a low-cost analog sun sensor essential for satellite attitude determination, focusing on measuring azimuth and elevation angles. A dedicated test bench including an optical table, dark room, solar emulator, and rotating table was established to evaluate sensor performance under realistic conditions. The calibration employed the dichotomy method to address the complexities of a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system, ensuring accurate modeling of sensor outputs against solar angles. Results demonstrated the algorithm's robustness, achieving precise angle identification even with measurement uncertainties. Additionally, an intuitive graphical interface was developed to facilitate the calibration process and enhance the efficiency. This work significantly advances the reliability and affordability of sun sensors in satellite attitude control systems.

Typically, egg incubators available for purchase utilize on-off control to regulate incandescent lamps, which might result in temperature changes. The objective of this research is to develop a temperature control system for the incubation of chicken or duck eggs using PID control with graphical user interface and monitor the humidity level. The DHT11 sensor detects the current temperature and humidity. The target temperature are 37 degrees celsius. The process of temperature regulation is achieved by implementing PID control to adjust the power supply of the incandescent lamp in order to maintain a stable desired temperature. The actual humidity will show in GUI then the user could set on / off the mist maker to disperse water, in conjunction with an exhaust fan. The microcontroller used is the Arduino Nano. The Python QML programming language is used to develop a graphical user interface (GUI) for real-time monitoring and control of temperature and humidity conditions. This interface allows for the adjustment of setpoint settings and PID control parameters. Simulation and validation have been conducted in the context of temperature control. The system has rise time of 47s, settling time of 411s and maximum overshoot of 2,64%. The system has the capability to regulate temperature (37 degrees Celsius) with slight fluctuations. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the primary disadvantage in automobiles is an unexpected gas leak or other undesired gas detection, the vehicle will either abruptly stop operating or a fire accident may occur. While at sudden shutdown of running vehicle or on bust of unpredictable disaster before the passenger takes precaution which leads to various accidents. The proposed system consists of a Node MCU to control the entire system. The model also consists of buck converter, air quality sensor, servo motors, cooling fans, voltage regulator and NPN transistor. The gas sensor is connected with Node MCU which opens the windows, in case of any detection of undesirable gas in vehicle. To inspect the current state of electrical parameters in real time and control them through the Internet of Things, the ESP8266 module linked with the mobile application is also connected. This project enables the system to provide immediate feedback to users via a user-friendly interface, accessible through mobile applications. By empowering occupants with real-time air quality insights, this IoT enabled solution aims to enable a healthier and safer driving environment, thereby contributing to overall well-being and environmental sustainability.
