This research article corroborates an indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) with an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based sensor-less speed control of the ventilation system at a low and medium-speed operating range. The presented study aims to reduce the power consumption of the ventilation system due to variation in steady-state error, low-speed ripple, and computational time for the drive to enhance the system's overall performance. In this context, due to pure integral and derivatives, the low and medium-speed operation of IFOC is poor, so IFOC with EKF improves the overall system performance. The FOPI? control technique is used to optimise the proportional-integral gain of the speed and current controller for sensor-less speed control of the ventilation system. The proposed EKF speed observer with FOPI? controller increased the system's stability and performance in steady-state operation while also improving the ventilation drive's overall efficiency. The proposed method is implemented using the Lab VIEW interface on a digitalized 5.5 kW ventilation system. © 2021 IEEE.

The rapid development of IoT-enabled drones has paved the way for highly adaptable solutions across diverse fields such as firefighting, agriculture, and environmental research. This paper introduces RescueEye, a hexacopter drone designed with advanced IoT capabilities to tackle various critical tasks. The system integrates a Raspberry Pi 4B for real-time video streaming, an Arduino Mega for flight control, and a suite of sensors, including gas, temperature, and ultrasonic, to enable semi-autonomous and precise operations in demanding environments. The firefighting module of RescueEye includes features like carbon ball deployment for fire suppression, mechanical hands for rescue operations, and water hose maneuvering. These tools are combined with real-time harmful gas detection to enhance firefighter safety and efficiency. RescueEye is equipped with an advanced pesticide spraying system capable of operating precisely, minimizing human exposure, and enhancing productivity. In addition, the drone’s capacity to gather sensor data for land assessment and environmental monitoring makes it an ideal tool for research and survey tasks. The architecture of RescueEye integrates a six-channel Flysky radio controller, a live video transmission system via the Raspberry Pi camera module and a risk-scoring algorithm that processes sensor data for real-time risk assessments. This paper elaborates on the mechanical, electrical, and software design of RescueEye, illustrating its potential to improve safety, precision, and operational efficiency in various use cases. The system’s capacity for real-time decision-making, enabled by IoT-driven data collection and analytics, makes it a versatile tool for modernizing traditional approaches in firefighting, agriculture, and environmental research.

This paper introduces the characteristics of passive radar system and staring radar as well as briefly introduces the data processing method, uses gaze radar as a non-cooperative radiation source, carries out a series of maritime target detection experiments, and verifies the experimental results with AIS system. The results show that the passive radar system can accurately get the target speed, distance and other information.

This paper deals with the design of a new haptic interface to drive a wheelchair locomotion simulator in real-time. The proposed haptic interface considers a reference model of a manual wheelchair (MWC) with a coupled straight line, turn and slope/cross-slope dynamics. This model allows both to reproduce the wheel-ground contact resistances in real-time and to estimate the kinematic motion states of the wheelchair. Then the theoretical concept of the model predictive control (MPC) scheme for linear time-varying (LTV) systems is exploited for the design of the haptic controller in order to handle the reference tracking problem. This controller is based on an LTV model of the MWC system coupled with the ergometer rollers of the simulator using an online identification of its dynamics. This formulation allows us to deal with nonlinearities and variations of the contact friction between the MWC wheels and the simulator rollers. The stability of the simulator haptic interface is demonstrated using the Lyapunov stability tools. Finally, the performance and effectiveness of the proposed haptic interface are evaluated by experimental tests on the PSCHITT-PMR simulator platform using standardized locomotion scenarios.

Furthermore, it addresses the challenges associated with ADAS implementation in India, such as system accuracy limitations, sensor limitations, and lack of consumer awareness. It explores potential solutions like the implementation of ADAS on re-configurable heterogeneous MPSoC architectures for efficient real-time performance. The article ends by highlighting the promising future of ADAS technology and how it may transform driving efficiency, increase road safety, and improve the driving experience in general. It highlights the need for continued research and development to address pressing problems and pave the way for the widespread use of ADAS in a range of traffic scenarios, especially in India.

This paper presents a low-quiescent-power battery-free energy harvesting interface for micro-watt to milli-watt applications with a single-inductor dual-input dual-output (SIDIDO) buck-boost converter. The system contains one renewable source input, one regulated output and one bidirectional energy transfer node with a storage capacitor for storage and reuse the energy. To achieve high power conversion efficiency (PCE) with micro-watt input power, we embedded dynamic-power-gating under-voltage lockout (DPG-UVLO) circuit, dynamic-voltage-feedback (DVFB) and pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) control to reduce quiescent power. The measurement quiescent power is 1.9 µW and the peak PCE is 86.4%.

Pyrolysis, a viable method for producing valuable products like tire pyrolytic oil, addressing the environmental problems associated with the improper disposal of used tires. However, additional refinement is necessary to extract lighter fractions of the oil, which have higher economic value. This study focuses on the design and development of a small-scale atmospheric distillation system specifically engineered to characterize pyrolytic oil from waste tires. The system is designed to separate the lighter fractions of tire pyrolytic oil and analyze the distilled oil in accordance with ASTM standards, while also conducting physical and spectral characterization using a real-time sensor network. The real-time sensor network, which controls the system for characterizing tire pyrolytic oil, maintains precise temperature control within the 30-60°C range. It uses gravitydriven fluid movement, eliminating the need for mechanical pumps. Key parameters like density, pH level, and water content are carefully monitored and displayed on both a control panel and mobile devices. With the use of advanced sensors and calibration methods, the system ensures accurate measurements, addressing limitations found in existing technologies. The data collected during the oil characterization were compared with results from a standard testing laboratory in the Philippines accredited by the Department of Energy (DOE) using ASTM standards. These comparisons highlight the system's effectiveness in improving the reliability and usability of tire pyrolytic oil for various industrial applications. This innovative approach provides a cost-effective and efficient solution for refining tire pyrolytic oil and characterizing its physical and spectral properties, underscoring its significant potential for industrial use.

Behavior Trees (BTs) are a formalism increasingly used to control the execution of robotic systems. The strength of BTs resides in their compact, hierarchical and transparent representation. However, when used in practical applications transparency is often hindered by the introduction of implicit runtime relations between nodes, e.g., because of data dependencies or hardware-related ordering constraints. Manually verifying the correctness of a BT with respect to these hidden relations is a tedious and error-prone task. This paper presents a modular planning-based approach for automatically testing BTs offline at design time, to identify possible executions that may violate given data and ordering constraints and to exhibit traces of these executions to help debugging. Our approach supports both basic and advanced BT node types, e.g., supporting parallel behaviors, and can be extended with other node types as needed. We evaluate our approach on BTs used in a commercially deployed robotics system and on a large set of randomly generated trees showing that our approach scales to realistic sizes of more than 3000 nodes. This paper presents a novel approach for fruit quality detection using a multi-modal system that combines sensor data and image processing techniques with deep learning. In the first stage of our experiment, we employed various sensors to measure temperature, gas levels, and moisture content using DHT 11 and MQ-135 sensors. These sensors provide valuable insights into the environmental conditions surrounding the fruits, which are crucial indicators of their freshness. In the second stage, we utilized image processing algorithms to pre-process fruit images and train a SqueezeNet convolutional neural network (CNN) to classify fruits into two classes: fresh and rotten. By integrating sensor data with image-based classification, our proposed method offers a comprehensive solution for real-time fruit quality assessment. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in accurately detecting fruit quality, paving the way for advanced applications in food safety and quality control.

The paper presents a design and implementation for a gesture-controlled robotic system that can operate in remote regions. This system can send environmental data through wireless data interchange, which a user can then remotely access to operate an application. The robot, being equipped with advanced sensors and communication modules, can capture data about the environment in real-time and perform monitoring and interaction with the environment. What distinguishes it is an intuitive gesture control mechanism that allows a user to interact with and give commands to a robot using natural hand movements, making it easy to use with increased accuracy. This innovative approach allows users to control and navigate the robot using simple palm gestures, fostering an intuitive interaction with the robotic system. The gestures are interpreted by a gyroscope sensor, which directs the robot's movements accordingly. Data collected by this robot is transmitted through a sturdy wireless network to the mobile application, where users can receive, analyze, and respond promptly to this information. It offers a potentially significant benefit for practical applications in harmful working environments, disaster management, or remote exploration where direct human intervention is impossible or hazardous. The paper presents technical specifications, design challenges, and a performance evaluation of the system developed, indicating its usability and robustness in real practical applications.
