In industrial environments, ensuring worker safety through real-time environmental monitoring is crucial. This paper proposes an integrated system that combines Raspberry Pi and MATLAB through Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enhance worker safety with MQ2 and MQ135 sensors. The system continuously monitors air quality by detecting various pollutants and hazardous gases. The MQ135 sensor detects a wider spectrum of gases, including ammonia, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide, and the MQ2 sensor, which measures gases including gases like smoke. Data collected from these sensors is processed in real-time using MATLAB, which facilitates advanced data analysis, visualization, and alert generation. The system's IoT capability allows for remote monitoring and control, providing timely notifications and ensuring a proactive approach to managing workplace safety. This solution offers a cost-effective, scalable approach to maintaining safe industrial environments for employee protection with potential for adaptation in various sectors.

Forest fires have devastating effects on the environment and human lives, making early prediction and mitigation crucial. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for a smart and secure forest fire early detection and also sense of prediction system that integrates wireless sensor networks (WSN), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and advanced security measures. Drawing insights and continuing to advance our previous related research in the field, we propose an innovative and comprehensive forest fire prediction system that addresses the challenges posed by these natural disasters. Our approach leverages the capabilities of WSNs for data collection, employs ANNs for real-time smart fire prediction, and incorporates robust and intelligence security measures to protect such vulnerable sensory systems from external threats. We discuss the system’s architecture, data preprocessing techniques, experimental results, and potential applications, highlighting its significance in forest fire management and beyond. Compared to other peer works in the field, we have the advantage of obtaining much more fire scenarios, rich enough to sense not only early detection but also predication, with very promising accuracy. Moreover, our approach will help providing great control to extinguish existing fire.

Aiming at the requirements of high reliability and convenience of identity authentication in public scene services, a multimodal identity authentication algorithm based on face, voiceprint and gesture is studied. Firstly, a multimodal identity authentication framework based on cloud model and evidence theory is established; secondly, a variety of biometric input modes are integrated, including face, voiceprint, and gesture, to provide users with more flexible identity authentication choices; finally, fusion authentication of travelers' identities is carried out through decision-level algorithms, and an evidence fusion algorithm based on the combination of cloud model and improved evidence theory is investigated to combine the recognition results of these three modal networks Input into the multi-data fusion algorithm, through the evidence fusion algorithm to achieve the final decision-making fusion, so as to further improve the reliability and rapidity of information acquisition, and realize the traveler's identity authentication. After experimental evaluation multimodal identity authentication method is significantly better than the unimodal method, and the experimental results verify the accuracy of the multimodal fusion authentication algorithm.

An artificial lateral line (ALL) is a sensing system that imitates the distributed perception organs of fish and plays a major role in enhancing the flow estimation capability of underwater robots. Whereas various ALLs have been designed and developed, it is still an open question how to better place ALL sensors on underwater robots, especially for those with complex shapes and working in dynamic flow and robot operating conditions. Aiming to answer this question, this paper presents a novel data-driven sensor placement method for ALLs of underwater robots. This method adopts distributed pressure sensors to measure the flow field along the profile or the outermost boundary of an underwater robot, and quantifies the dynamic information embedded within these measurements using multi-resolution dynamic mode decomposition (mrDMD). The sensors are then positioned by optimizing the dynamic flow information to enhance the perception. Compared with existing sensor placement methods, such as observability maximization and exhaustive experimental search, the proposed method focuses on the modes of dynamics variability at various spatio-temporal scales, thus leading to improved sensing ability especially in complex and dynamic flows. In addition, comprehensively considering the sensor placement under different flow and robot operating conditions, the proposed method is expected to provide an optimal solution for the overall sensing performance of the ALL system. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a case study of background flow speed estimation of oscillating underwater robots of different shapes in a uniform flow is presented.

The primary objective of the project is to assist farmers in selecting crops that are best suited to their soil conditions, water scarcity and excessive pesticide use are significantly undermining agricultural productivity and sustainability. The system goes beyond just irrigation; it also employs gas, infrared, and leaf wetness sensors to precisely detect and target pest-infested areas. This targeted approach significantly reduces pesticide usage, curbing environmental impact while enhancing pesticide effectiveness. The system's architecture features a central control unit that processes real-time data to optimize water usage and identify early pest infestations, promoting sustainable farming practices and reducing environmental impact. By promoting sustainable farming practices, this approach safeguards crop health, preserves land fertility, and addresses critical environmental concerns. Through real-time monitoring and precise intervention, this project reshapes agricultural practices, mitigating the detrimental impact of water scarcity and excessive pesticide use. By integrating these advanced technologies, the project not only enhances crop yield and quality but also ensures the sustainability of agricultural practices. This balance of innovation and environmental stewardship positions the project as a pioneering effort in modern agriculture, aiming to create a more sustainable and productive future for farming.

Most flexible human-machine interfaces emulate the tactile system of the skin, which has the risk of contact damage. Additionally, contact deformation often leads to a hysteresis response. Non-contact interaction can address these problems. Inspired by the electroreception capabilities of the elephantnose fish, this study introduces a non-contact sensing model employing monopolar controlled ionic hydrogel. Compared to most existing mutual capacitive non-contact sensing models, this model not only boosts responsivity by over 3.5 times but also streamlines the sensing architecture. Utilizing this sensing model, a flexible non-contact human-machine interface is developed by organizing three differently shaped hydrogels into an asymmetric configuration. This device reliably discerns six non-contact gestures using machine learning algorithms and supports at least eleven interactive functions by detecting the duration of gestures, enabling continuous real-time control over external devices. This advancement heralds a more liberated paradigm of human-machine interaction with promising implications for the Internet of Things. Most tactile human-machine interfaces are prone to deformation hysteresis and contact damage. To address these issues, a bioinspired non-contact sensing model using monopolar controlled ionic hydrogel is proposed, enhancing responsivity while simplifying the sensor structure. The equivalent circuit and empirical formula for this sensing model are derived, facilitating gesture recognition and advancing the development of flexible non-contact human-machine interfaces. image

The VLSI industry for semiconductors has undergone a transformation thanks to system-on-Chip technology. Recently, semiconductor hobbyists have been using a revolutionary approach, primarily over the past ten years, to integrate millions of ICs onto a silicon wafer. The on-chip communication is made possible by the communication protocols, which are crucial. AXI is a high-performance and efficient protocol that facilitates point-to-point transfers and interconnections. AXI is the most used AMBA protocol because of its distinct channel-wise distribution and hand- shaking. A scalable design for the advanced Extensible interface (AXI4.0Lite) protocol, a part of AMBA architecture, that provides control between the channel signals of protocol is presented in this work for master and slave configuration. It facilitates a simple and practical way to connect multiple IP cores in a system-on-chip or FPGA architecture, particularly for peripheral or control register access. The design is represented on the Intel Quartus Prime Lite using Verilog for hardware description.

The existing multi-layer and multi-pass welding process normally adopts teaching-playback method in low-level automation. Also, it is difficult for this method to adapt to the diversity of workpiece by reason of its poor flexibility and universality. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new robot system for multi-layer and multi-pass welding process based on vision sensor. Firstly, the mathematical model for the welding robot system is established to describe the spatial relationship between the coordinate systems of the tip of the robot, vison sensor and the tip of the welding torch. Then, the groove profile is reconstructed by the detected data of the vision sensor using the proposed data processing method. Based on the spatial model for the welding robot system and the groove profile obtained by the vision sensor, the mathematical model for the welding trajectory is established to realize the multi-layer and multi-pass welding process. Finally, the welding trajectory is verified in simulation and experiment, and the results demonstrate that the welding robot system proposed in this paper has a certain degree of reliability and feasibility. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents an Internet of Things (IoT)-based virtual simulation and real-time feedback system suggested to revolutionize military training completely. Armed services personnel benefit from a more dynamic and interactive learning environment made accessible by this technology, increasing their fitness level for conflict. Central to the system are IoT-enabled sensors strategically positioned across the training environment and incorporated into wearable devices carried by the learners. Movement, biometrics, environmental, and geographic data are a few examples of the types of real-time information that these sensors continually collect. The virtual simulation feature uses simulation equipment specifically designed to simulate military conditions, urban warfare situations, and emergencies. Through the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) and augmented Reality (AR) interfaces, the system creates more realistic training environments for the learners to practice in. To ensure that feedback is sent in real-time, the IoT relies on a data communication network that is both stable and secure. sensor and wearable technology allow instructors real-time access to trainee performance data. Instructors can easily modify the training activities due to an easy instructor control interface. To protect crucial military training data from threats or breaches, the system's design strongly emphasizes security and encryption measures. The benefits of training include better situational awareness, practical experience, and preparation for operations in the real world.

In recent years, there has been considerable effort to modernize existing and new nuclear power plants with digital instrumentation and control systems (DI&C). However, there has also been considerable concern both by industry and regulatory bodies for the risk and consequence analysis of these systems. Of particular concern are digital common cause failures (CCFs) specifically related to software defects. These "misbehaviors" by the software can occur in both in the control and monitoring of a system. While many new methods have been proposed to identify potential software failure modes, such as systems-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), Hazard and Consequence Analysis for Digital systems (HAZCADS), etc., these methods are focused primarily on the control action pathway of a system. In contrast, the information feedback pathway lacks unsafe control actions (UCAs), which are typically related to software basic events, and thus assessment of software basic events in such systems is unclear. In this work, we present the idea of intermediate processors and unsafe information flow (UIF) to help safety analysts trace failure mechanisms in the feedback pathway and how they can be integrated into a fault tree for improved assessment capability. The concepts presented are demonstrated in two comprehensive case studies, a smart sensor integrated platform for unmanned autonomous vehicles and another on a representative advanced human system interface (HSI) for safety critical plant monitoring. The qualitative software basic events are identified, and a fault tree analysis is conducted based on a modified Redundancy-guided systems-theoretic Hazard Analysis (RESHA) methodology. The case studies demonstrate the use of UIF and intermediate processors in the fault tree to improve traceability of software failures in highly complex digital instrumentation feedback.
