As a novel type of artificial media created recently, metamaterials demonstrate novel performance and consequently pave the way for potential applications in the area of practical engineering in comparison with the conventional materials. Acoustic metamaterials and phononic crystals possess a wide variety of exceptional physical features. These include effective negative parameters, band gaps, negative refraction, etc. Doing so, the acoustic properties of existing materials are extended. Acoustic metamaterials are periodic structures with the effective properties that can be tuned seeking for the dramatic control on wave propagation. Homogenization of the infinite periodic system is needed aiming to calculate permittivity of metamaterial. Dispersion properties of surface waves propagating at the interface between a nanocomposite made of a semiconductor inclusions systematically distributed in a transparent matrix and low-dimensional acoustic metamaterial, constructed by an array of nanowires implanted in a host material are investigated. We observed propagation of surface plasmon polaritons. It is demonstrated that one may dramatically modify properties of the system by tuning the geometry of inclusions. © 2022 advanced Electromagnetics Symposium. All rights reserved.

Sintering machines are the core production equipment in the metallurgical industry. Most sintering machines currently utilize flexible drive transmission systems. The output shaft speed of the flexible drive three-ring reducer is notably low. On-site monitoring of equipment operating conditions often relies on traditional methods such as vibration measurement, temperature measurement, and auscultation. However, the effectiveness of these approaches is limited. They can only identify abnormalities in the later stages of a malfunction, making it challenging to pinpoint the specific cause of equipment failure. This article introduces a stress wave system that employs advanced stress wave sensors tailored to capture internal impact and abnormal friction signals from the equipment. This system is designed for monitoring flexible drive failures in sintering machines, with diagnostic conclusions validated through equipment examination.

The proliferation of IoT-enabled wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has ushered in a multitude of applications but has also heightened concerns regarding data integrity and security. This underscores the critical necessity for robust Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) tailored explicitly for such environments. This study presents an innovative IDS framework designed to safeguard the integrity and security of data within -enabled. Our IDS framework introduces advanced machine learning techniques and anomaly detection algorithms to enable real-time monitoring and analysis, effectively identifying and mitigating potential threats. Through extensive experimentation and validation, we demonstrate the reliability and efficacy of our IDS in detecting various intrusion attempts while minimizing false alarms. Moreover, our framework incorporates adaptive mechanisms to address evolving threats and network dynamics, ensuring continuous protection against malicious activities. By enhancing the resilience of IoT-enabled WSNs against intrusions, our research contributes to bolstering trust and reliability in critical applications.

The increasing number of heatstroke-related fatalities among children left in vehicles highlights the urgent need for an effective preventive solution. This paper presents an innovative control system that detects the presence of children in the rear seats of vehicles and promptly alerts their parents. Unlike traditional systems that either invade privacy through camera use or generate frequent false alerts due to pressure sensors, our approach leverages IoT technology combined with advanced sensors and Arduino components to accurately identify children and differentiate them from inanimate objects. This system aims to reduce false alerts, protect privacy, and provide a reliable means of preventing heatstroke deaths by ensuring timely notifications to parents. By addressing the critical issue of child safety in vehicles, this solution offers a significant improvement over existing methods.

Brain-Computer interface (BCI) is a communication system that allows to create interfaces between the human brain and artificial devices. With the advent of consumer grade EEG devices, BCI-controlled games began to be designed. The designed games have features that can be evaluated in the category of competitive games in the entertainment sector and serious games in the medical *** this study;two level 2D game was designed that includes single and multi tasking, which provides virtual character control with both BCI and HCI. Two dissimilar BCI prediction algorithms were used in this game designed using a game engine that supports many platforms. Performance metrics obtained from our experiments designed using the developed game for two different methods, estimation algorithms and levels were compared each other. © 2021 IEEE.

The future development of gardening consulting services will be facilitated by the combination of wireless sensor networks (WSN) and Cloud Computing, representing a state-of-the-art technological advancement. The technique utilizes wireless sensors deployed in gardens to collect real-time data on the temperature of the soil, moisture, and sunlight. This data is then sent to a cloud-based framework for analysis and storage. The data may be accessed from any location with a connection to the internet. The system processes and analyzes the data, enabling an advanced gardening chatbot to provide personalized advice using the huge computational capabilities of the cloud. The user is provided with timely guidance tailored to the unique conditions of their garden, facilitating optimal plant maintenance, efficient pest control, and conformance to seasonal patterns. The integration of WSN with the cloud's computing capabilities enhances the adaptability of the system, allowing it to evolve in response to changing environmental dynamics. This novel approach transforms traditional gardening guidance into a data-centric and contextually aware encounter, facilitating the emergence of an era characterized by intelligent horticulture.

This research work presents the design and implementation of an advanced indoor navigation system tailored for college campus (Xavier Institute of Engineering), leveraging LiDAR sensors and QR code technology for accurate location mapping. The system integrates LiDAR sensors to create high-resolution 3D maps of indoor environments, providing detailed spatial information. QR codes are strategically placed throughout the campus, acting as reference points for precise localization. Users' smartphones scan these QR codes and collect real-time LiDAR data, allowing the system to properly pinpoint their location. The proposed indoor navigation application offers students, faculty, and visitors an intuitive and efficient way to navigate complex college buildings. The LiDAR-based mapping ensures precise indoor positioning, while QR codes serve as reliable landmarks for seamless orientation. The system's user-friendly interface provides step-by-step directions, optimizing routes based on real-time data, and enhancing the overall user experience. The integration of LiDAR technology and QR codes addresses the limitations of conventional indoor navigation systems, offering a scalable and adaptable solution for educational institutions. The implementation demonstrates the potential of this hybrid approach in transforming indoor navigation experiences, making it an invaluable tool for enhancing campus accessibility, improving way finding efficiency, and ensuring a positive user experience.

This research paper focuses on designing and developing a microcontroller-based mobile dextrose stand follower equipped with ultrasonic proximity detection. The primary aim is to improve patient convenience in medical settings by automating the movement of IV stands, thus eliminating the need for manual handling. The system uses ultrasonic sensors integrated with an Arduino ATMega 2560 microcontroller to detect the patient's presence and location. This information is processed to control a 36V brushless DC motor, allowing the device to follow the patient autonomously. Initial tests demonstrated the system's capability to follow a patient in a controlled environment, maintaining a consistent speed and navigating effectively. The prototype showed promise in enhancing patient mobility and reducing the burden on healthcare staff. Future improvements may include using alternative sensors and advanced navigation algorithms to enhance performance and reliability further.

Managing the postharvest period for fresh fruits and vegetables is essential for preserving their quality, safety, and shelf-life. Traditional methods often fall short, being inefficient, time-consuming, and susceptible to human error, which leads to significant losses and waste. However, the rise of Internet of Things (IoT) technology presents a promising solution. IoT allows for the creation of advanced monitoring and control systems that can manage postharvest processes in real-time. Through IoT, various sensors, communication devices, and data analytics tools work together to track important postharvest parameters like temperature, humidity, gas levels, and fruit maturity. This real-time data can help identify potential quality issues promptly and enable corrective actions. The newly developed system uses DHT11 sensors to measure temperature and humidity, transmitting this data to the ThingSpeak cloud. It can also adjust the environment to maintain the optimal conditions for fruits like mangoes, tomatoes, and oranges. This system aims to reduce postharvest losses, enhance product quality, and boost the efficiency and sustainability of postharvest operations. This paper outlines the development and benefits of IoT-based postharvest monitoring and control systems for fresh produce. The paper will cover the development of this this system, in addition to the review of developed system.

The solid-state transformer (SST) is a developing technology which is being integrated in low and high-voltage power systems, supporting the integration of renewable energy in smart grid applications and fast charging stations for electric vehicles (EV). SST is becoming more critical in certain applications of advanced power distribution systems as it provides several advantages over the conventional transformer including its controllability, small weight and size, potential low cost, and simplicity of connection for offshore wind farms. However, some challenges arise in modular SST design and implementation including control architecture for equal power balancing, protection, and communication compatibility that need to be addressed. This paper provides an overview of different SST communication protocols and offers prospects, applications, and future directions for research and development. A control architecture for input and output voltage balancing is presented for a direct power conversion (DPC) type SST system. A detailed SPI communication protocol is also provided which allows the implementation of decentralized operation of the modular SST system.
