The objective of this paper is to outline the design specification, implementation and evaluation of a proposed accelerated encryption framework which deploys both homomorphic and symmetric-key encryptions to serve the privacy preserving processing;in particular, as a sub-system within the Privacy Preserving Speech processing framework architecture as part of the PPSP-in-Cloud Platform. Following a preliminary study of GPU efficiency gains optimisations benchmarked for AES implementation we have addressed and resolved the Big Integer processing challenges in parallel implementation of bilinear pairing thus enabling the creation of partially homomorphic encryption schemes which facilitates applications such as speech processing in the encrypted domain on the cloud. This novel implementation has been validated in laboratory tests using a standard speech corpus and can be used for other application domains to support secure computation and privacy preserving big data storage/processing in the cloud.

This paper addresses the analysis of an experimental setup designed with the aim of calibrating important parameters involved in visual servoing. More precisely, the effects of parameters related to image processing, camera calibration and noise reduction are investigated. Great attention is given to the algorithms used for improving the pose accuracy of a moving target while reducing their computational burden for an online implementation. A simple test case of visual servoing on an electric linear axis is shown in order to prove the effectiveness of the study. However, the obtained results are also valid for general motion of typical robotic systems. Actually, the present work is preliminary to the visual servoing of minor and full mobility parallel kinematic machines.

An innovative approach is being used to implement and simulate the infrared (IR) and laser radar signalprocessingalgorithms for the advanced Sensor Technology Program (ASTP) and the Discrimination Interceptor Technology Program (DITP). Although the algorithms will run on four different computer architectures, they will use the same source code for all implementations. The initial development and testing will occur in Mathcad on a Windows 95/NT personal computer, then move to simulation on a Silicon Graphics (SGI) workstation, then to scaled real-time simulation on a parallel high performance computer (HPC), and finally to the actual flight processor, the miniaturized parallel Wafer Scale signal Processor (WSSP) with a MIMD (multiple-instruction and multiple data) architecture. This flexibility is accomplished with code wrappers that implement interchangeable interface layers for the code modules, one wrapper for Mathcad matrices, one for C++ objects on the workstation, one for message passing with static routing on the HPC, and one for dynamically routed message passing on the WSSP. With this approach, developers can move modules back and forth from the workstation simulation environment to the implementation hardware. This will eliminate the need to maintain different versions of the same algorithm. The signalprocessingalgorithms will be modified to work in a massively parallel architecture, with a message passing interface, which is simulated on the Silicon Graphics workstation, emulated on the HPC, and implemented on the WSSP. This approach will allow for pipeline processing as well as multiple, concurrently running instances of modules. In addition, innovative algorithms will fuse active laser radar detections and passive multicolor IR sensor measurements to improve target state estimation.

In this work, we demonstrate that the ptychographic phase problem can be solved in a live fashion during scanning, while data is still being collected. We propose a generally applicable modification of the widespread projection-based algorithms such as Error Reduction (ER) and Difference Map (DM). This novel variant of ptychographic phase retrieval enables immediate visual feedback during experiments, reconstruction of arbitrary-sized objects with a fixed amount of computational resources, and adaptive scanning. By building upon the Real-Time Iterative Spectrogram Inversion (RTISI) family of algorithms from the audio processing literature, we show that live variants of projection-based methods such asDMcan be derived naturally and may even achieve higher-quality reconstructions than their classic non-live counterparts with comparable effective computational load.

Computationally efficient algorithms which perform speech activity detection have significant potential economic and labor saving benefit, by automating an extremely tedious manual process. In many applications, it is desirable to extract intervals of speech which are bounded by segments of other signal types (fax/modem, music, static, dial tones, etc.). In the past, algorithms which successfully discriminate between speech and one specific other signal type have been developed. Frequently, these algorithms fail when the specific non-speech signal is replaced by a different non-speech signal. Little work has been done on combining such discriminators in order to solve the general speech vs. non-speech discrimination problem. Typically, several signal specific discriminators are blindly combined with predictable negative results. Moreover, when a large number of discriminators are involved, dimension reduction is achieved using Principal Components, which optimally compresses signal variance into the fewest number of dimensions. Unfortunately, these new coordinates are not necessarily optimal for discrimination. In this paper we apply graphical tools to determine a set of discriminators which produce excellent speech vs. non-speech clustering, thereby eliminating the guesswork in selecting good feature vectors. This cluster structure provides a basis for a general multivariate speech vs. non-speech discriminator, which compares very favorably with the TALKATIVE speech extraction algorithm.

In the power industry, current must be measured for metering and protection purposes. For such measurements, the use of magnetooptic current transformers offers many advantages. Conventional sensors, however, need two magnetooptic transformers to realize the required high dynamic range. Using a combination of analog and digital signalprocessingalgorithms, the inherent low noise of the photonic input signals is maintained. The system design is based on a rigorous investigation and optimization of the error sources in the signalprocessing chain. The validity of this approach was confirmed by a demonstrator which achieved a dynamic range from 0.05 to 100 times the rated current and whose rms error was less than 0.5 %.

This paper considers ''blind beamforming'' operations on a wireless network of randomly distributed MEM sensors. Maximum power collection criterion is proposed and results in array weights obtained from the eigenvector corresponding to largest eigenvalue of a matrix eigenvalue problem. Theoretical justification of this approach to an extension of Szego's asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues is provided. Numerical results on propagation time delay estimation and loss of coherency due to propagation disturbances are presented.

This paper considers a class of blind beamforming problems in which the amount of prior information is very limited. The array sensors are placed in unknown locations within a geographical region, and have unknown frequency/spatial response. The sensors communicate synchronously with a main processor unit. The array is illuminated by a source, which may be narrow- or broadband, in near or far field. Additional disturbances may be present, in the form of interferers, possibly correlated or coherent with the main signal, and additive noise. The goal is required to steer beam toward the desired signal. Four schemes are presented, each based on the type of prior available information.

In support of the Defense advanced Research Projects Agency advancedsignalprocessing program a challenge had been issued to the radar and signalprocessing community. Several simulated data sets that emulate a flying phased array surveillance radar were created and placed on the World Wide Web as a challenge to resolve all target information. All data sets for the challenge were created with the Rome Laboratory Space Time Adaptive processing Algorithm Development Tool. This paper describes to date the properties of the data sets, the generation of the data sets, and some preliminary analysis using standard baseline Space Time Adaptive processingalgorithms.
