Authors have developed an algorithm to compress logical dataset for storage and transmission purposes [1]. This paper extends the algorithm to work with discrete data sets. This algorithm could provide an economical way for handling a correlated or highly correlated discrete or quantized analog data set or signal. The mean of this algorithm is a special binary tree structure, inspired by developmental biology, the way, how a multicellular organism develops from a single cell. This observed natural process is an inverse transformation so on this base is possible to prepare a corresponding wavelet transformation method.

Cancer becomes No.1 killing disease in China now. The paper describes how to generate virtual tumor signals by mathematical modeling, how to deeply process the cancer signals in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, target therapy and bioimmunotherapy by AI algorithms and how to design an AI chip in nano-drug delivery system for lung cancer. The purpose for this paper is to change the straightforward rules-based treatment guidelines about one drug fitting all and one dose fitting all in traditional cancer treatments into precision and personalized cancer treatments with advanced artificial intelligent technology. We hope the state of art in this technology could prolong and improve the cancer patient's life and quality, let cancer become chronic disease in near future.

We consider the problem of recovering signals from noisy indirect observations under the additional a priori information that the signal is believed to be slowly varying except at all unknown number of points where it may have discontinuities of unknown size. The model problem is a linear deconvolution problem. To take advantage of the qualitative prior information available, we use a non-stationary Markov model with the variance of the innovation process also unknown, and apply Bayesian techniques to estimate both the signal and the prior variance. We propose a fast iterative method for computing a MAP estimates and we show that, with a rather standard choices of the hyperpriors, the algorithm produces the fixed point iterative solutions of the total variation and of the Perona-Malik regularization methods. We also demonstrate that, unlike the non-statistical estimation methods, the Bayesian approach leads to a very natural reliability assessment of edge detection by a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) based analysis of the posterior.

We address the question of the importance of satisfying the marginal conditions in a time-frequency distribution and discuss in detail the fundamental and practical issues involved. We also examine the marginals of the spectrogram. The spectrogram often gives reasonable results even though both marginals can never be satisfied exactly, but sometimes it can give very unreasonable results. We show by examples that the spectrogram gives the clearest characterization of the time-frequency properties of a signal when the combined error in both of its marginals is as small as possible. In contrast, when the error in either one of the marginals of the spectrogram is large, the time-frequency characterization degrades. Some different error measures are described. We discuss the issues involved both theoretically and by way of numerical simulations. We also address the issue of marginals for the random case.

The most important factor in the remote control environment of the unmanned system is the reliability of wireless communication. As a method for improving the reliability and performance of communication, there is a system improvement method such as using an advanced antenna and a repeater, and a method using an algorithm such as automatic traffic control. In this paper, system design and control algorithms are proposed by adding redundancy concepts to these methods. The reliability and performance of the proposed system which has the redundant structure providing seamless video are compared with those of the existing system.

This tutorial paper1 aims at summarizing some problems, ranging from analytical chemistry to novel chemical sensors, that can be addressed with classical or advanced methods of signal and image processing. We gather them under the denomination of "chemical sensing". It is meant to introduce the special session "signal processing for Chemical Sensing" with a large overview of issues which have been and remain to be addressed in this application domain, including chemical analysis leading to PARAFAC/tensor methods, hyper spectral imaging, ion-sensitive sensors, artificial nose, chromatography, mass spectrometry, etc. For enlarging and illustrating the points of view of this tutorial, the invited papers of the session consider other applications (NMR, Raman spectroscopy, recognition of explosive compounds, etc.) addressed by various methods, e. g. source separation, Bayesian, and exploiting typical chemical signal priors like positivity, linearity, unit-concentration or sparsity.

In this paper, a new wave front sensor design that utilizes the benefits of image projections is described and analyzed. The projection-based wave front sensor is similar to a Shack-Hartman type wave front sensor, but uses a correlation algorithm as opposed to a centroiding algorithm to estimate optical tilt. This allows the projection-based wave front sensor to estimate optical tilt parameters while guiding off of point sources and extended objects at very low signal to noise ratios. The implementation of the projection-based wave front sensor is described in detail showings important signal processing steps on and off of the focal plane array of the sensor. In this paper the design is tested in simulation for speed and accuracy by processing simulated astro-nomical data. These simulations demonstrate the accuracy of the projection-based wave front sensor and its superior performance to that of the traditional Shack-Hartman wave front sensor. Timing analysis is presented which shows how the collection and processing of image projections is computationally efficient and lends itself to a wave front sensor design that can produce adaptive optical control signals at speeds of up to 500 hz.

In digital mobile communications several measures are taken beyond speech coding to enhance the perceived quality in the presence of acoustic background noise and transmission errors. In premium mobile phones meanwhile advanced algorithms for noise suppression, error concealment, and finally artificial bandwidth extension come to practical application. It will be shown in this contribution that theses three different concepts of speech enhancement are actually based on the same common principle of conditional estimation, taking statistical a priori knowledge into account. Recent developments in these three areas are presented. © 2004 EUSIPCO.

This paper presents the use of relations between features, which describe a caller for automatic recognition of abnormal cases in emergency telephone call systems. The proposed correlation based procedure, as an integral part of the authors' advanced database search mechanism dedicated to emergency notification centers, extends the record matching procedures and takes into account dependences between features. Illustrative examples and experiments show that the presented procedure significantly improves recognition of impossible cases, e.g. those reported by cheaters.

The paper exploits the video camera available on-board vehicles for public transport, such as trains, coaches, ferryboats, and so on, to implement advanced services for the passengers. The idea is implementing not only surveillance systems, but also passenger services such as: people counting, smoke and/or fire alarm, automatic climate control, e-ticketing. For each wagon, an embedded acquisition and processing unit is used, which is composed by a video multiplexer, and by an image/video signal processor that implements in real-time algorithms for advanced services such as: smoke detection, to give an early alarm in case of a fire, or people detection for people counting, or fatigue detection for the driver. The alarm is then transmitted to the train information system, to be displayed for passengers or the crew staff.
