To help develop high performance adaptive phased array antennas, we examined the tradeoffs in implementing a hybrid approach that was described in an earlier publications [Z. Zhang et al., 2003]. Simulation results using both the LMS and CMA beamforming algorithms show that the hybrid approach described in Z. Zhang et al. (2003) actually successfully predicts DOA, but on the expense of the beam width. Narrower beam widths would require increasing number of elements and this may be possible to achieve and hence suitable for implementation in larger arrays. The performance of the hybrid beamforming approach was further simulated using measured radiation patterns from the new CPW-CTS antenna. Future extension of the proposed approach to the case of narrower beam width subarrays (single feed) in a larger CTS antenna array system is also described.

This paper presents an integrated 90-nm CMOS low-energy dual-channel multiplier based on the serial/parallel scheme. Moreover, a comparative study of different multipliers is accomplished at 90 nm CMOS technology. Due to the tendency of the market to minimize devices' size to make them portable, small implementation area is considered by using the dual-channel multiplier. In this paper, a new implementation of multiplication process comes to exceed the battery lifetime by decreasing the power consumption by up to 93%. Furthermore, there is a reduction in the area by up to 67% as compared with previous work which makes it more appropriate for low power handheld devices applications. Also, great saving in energy is attained by using the proposed scheme when performing complex multiplications task.

In the next-generation communication system, various communication services employs beamforming and massive array antenna techniques for reliable and efficient wireless communications. Based on the massive array antenna with a huge number of elements, the beamforming technique such as the estimation of Angle of Arrival (AOA) may not operate in real time, because the computational complexity for this situation should be extremely high. In order to enhance this problem, in this paper, we propose the cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on the Flexible Massive Combined Array (FMCA) antenna. The proposed algorithm finds AOA groups including multiple signal AOAs employing Capon based on some elements of the FMCA antenna, and it estimates the detail signal AOAs in the found AOA groups employing Beamspace Multiple signal Classification (MUSIC) based on entire elements of the FMCA antenna. In addition, we provide the received signal model for applying the FMCA antenna and the proposed cascade AOA estimation algorithm.

Main objective of this study was to propose an advanced method to evaluate one's physical activity by means of a portable device which is capable of long-term non-restrictive measurement. The device includes accelerometers and a barometer specially designed to catch features of vertical movements such as stair climbing. The embedded algorithm classified activity type and quantifies its exercise intensity in realtime. Usefulness of the proposed method was demonstrated in simple experiments. Healthy young and elderly subjects participated in the experiments. Two kinds of daily outdoor situations were considered in the experiment; mountain climbing and city walking. Experimental results showed that the method correctly classified all type of activities, and accomplished feasible energy consumption estimation in both situations. It was also suggested that the consideration of vertical movements made an improvement in energy consumption estimation, and then provided more precise and reliable estimation of physical activity

Knowledge of the longitudinal road gradient can be used by advanced Cruise Control (ACC) and automatic transmission control systems to provide more accurate longitudinal velocity control. This paper presents a method of estimating the longitudinal road gradient just using the available vehicle CAN bus data. This method ensures that no extra sensors need to be added to the vehicle, and therefore there is no added cost to the vehicle. The gradient estimation algorithm is developed combining vehicle modelling techniques and parameter estimation methods. A simple longitudinal acceleration vehicle model is derived using standard vehicle model equations. The unknown longitudinal gradient parameter is then estimated using the data available on the CAN bus.

3rd Generation systems promise to revolutionise mobile communications by offering high rate and extremely flexible channels. An important part of this power and flexibility comes from the advanced bit rate processing operations. In this paper we detail these bit rate processing operations, and describe their real-time implementation in both software and hardware. UbiNetics is the leading supplier of 3G test mobiles to infrastructure manufacturers. These mobiles allow users to test high rate (up to 384 kbits/s) channels in real deployment scenarios. In such high rate mobiles the complexity of the bit and chip rate operations is similar. The main component of the bit rate processing at the receiver is the channel decoding, and both convolutional and turbo codes are specified by 3GPP and 3GPP2. We describe the issues involved in the fixed-point implementation of turbo and Viterbi (1967) decoders, and the other bit rate processing operations on both fixed point DSPs and in hardware. These issues include both the complexity and memory requirements of the decoding operations. Comparisons of results from our workstation based floating point simulations and those achieved on the fixed-point target platforms are presented. We also describe novel techniques for reducing the complexity of the decoders.

An ultra-wide band (UWB) localization study by developing a Time-of-Arrival (TOA) algorithm is presented and experimentally verified. The technique and test setup presented in this work offers an easy to understand localization method utilizing the UWB technology. The challenges in designing UWB RF hardware and creating an effective algorithm for the UWB system have been overcome resulting in an accurate location estimation. The proposed system is promising to achieve high precision location estimation system.

An estimate of the probability density function of a random vector is obtained by maximizing the output entropy of a feedforward network of sigmoidal units with respect to the input weights. A normalized version of the sigmoidal transfer function simplifies the algorithm considerably and leads to a maximum entropy estimate of the input density under a certain model. Newton's method, applied to the estimated density, yields a recursive estimator for a random variable or a random sequence. A constrained connectivity structure yields a linear estimator, which is particularly suitable for "real time" prediction.

advanced Multimodal Conversational Bot powered by the LLama 2 model, which has 13 billion parameters. The bot can provide personalized song recommendations that are flexible across languages. It uses text, and audio inputs to understand users from different linguistic backgrounds. It accurately assesses the user's mood in multiple languages through sentiment analysis and refines emotional context using image and video analysis. This allows it to offer song recommendations considering the user's mood, preferences, and realtime context, regardless of their chosen language. The bot also handles incomplete or unclear queries in multiple languages, ensuring precise and relevant song suggestions. A custom dataset tailored for music recommendations is used for finetuning, enhancing the bot's ability to provide personalized and contextually relevant song suggestions.

This paper presents a spatially adaptive super-resolution (SR) algorithm using homogeneous region analysis for minimizing undesired interpolation artifacts such as aliasing and jagged edges. The proposed regularized SR algorithm incorporates two constraints enforcing (i) disconnected edges to be reconnected and (ii) orientation-adaptive regularization. By combining two constraints in the regularization framework, the proposed SR algorithm can significantly reduce aliasing artifacts and, as a result, produce edge-preserved high-resolution (HR) images. In addition to the formulation of the regularized SR algorithm with hybrid constraints, experimental results show that the proposed SR algorithm improves peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed HR images by up to 5[dB]over existing state-of-the-art SR methods.
