Extensive simulations of AO performance for several E-ELT instruments (including EAGLE, MOSAIC, HIRES and MAORY) have been ongoing using the Monte-Carlo Durham AO Simulation Package. We present the latest simulation results, including studies into DM requirements, dependencies of performance on asterism, detailed point spread function generation, accurate telescope modelling, and studies of laser guide star effects. Details of simulations will be given, including the use of optical models of the E-ELT to generate wavefront sensor pupil illumination functions, laser guide star modelling, and investigations of different many-layer atmospheric profiles. We discuss issues related to ELT-scale simulation, how we have overcome these, and how we will be approaching forthcoming issues such as modelling of advanced wavefront control, multi-rate wavefront sensing, and advanced treatment of extended laser guide star spots. We also present progress made on integrating simulation with AO real-time control systems. The impact of simulation outcomes on instrument design studies will be discussed, and the ongoing work plan presented.

Using SPSS software and time series analysis method, we research on the influence of demographic dividend factors on Liaoning province dependency ratio indicators. The results found that a major determinant of regional economy, which is in the demographic dividend period, is per capita consumption and the dependency ratio. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The E and B Experiment (EBEX) is a balloon-borne telescope designed to probe polarization signals in the CMB resulting from primordial gravitational waves, gravitational lensing, and Galactic dust emission. EBEX completed an 11 day flight over Antarctica in January 2013 and data analysis is underway. EBEX employs two star cameras to achieve its real-time and post-flight pointing requirements. We wrote a software application called STARS to operate, command, and collect data from each of the star cameras, and to interface them with the main flight computer. We paid special attention to make the software robust against potential in-flight failures. We report on the implementation, testing, and successful in flight performance of STARS.

GRAVITY is the four-beam, near-infrared, AO-assisted, fringe tracking, astrometric and imaging instrument for the Very Large telescope Interferometer (VLTI). It is requiring the development of one of the most complex instrument software systems ever built for an ESO instrument. Apart from its many interfaces and interdependencies, one of the most challenging aspects is the overall performance and stability of this complex system. The three infrared detectors and the fast reflective memory network (RMN) recorder contribute a total data rate of up to 20 MiB/s accumulating to a maximum of 250 GiB of data per night. The detectors, the two instrument Local control Units (LCUs) as well as the five LCUs running applications under TAC (Tools for advanced control) architecture, are interconnected with fast Ethernet, RMN fibers and dedicated fiber connections as well as signals for the time synchronization. Here we give a simplified overview of all subsystems of GRAVITY and their interfaces and discuss two examples of high-level applications during observations: the acquisition procedure and the gathering and merging of data to the final FITS file.

The newly commissioned Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) combines extreme adaptive optics, an advanced coronagraph, precision wavefront control and a lenslet-based integral field spectrograph (IFS) to measure the spectra of young extrasolar giant planets between 0.9-2.5 mu m. Each GPI detector image, when in spectral model, consists of similar to 37,000 microspectra which are under or critically sampled in the spatial direction. This paper demonstrates how to obtain high-resolution microlens PSFs and discusses their use in enhancing the wavelength calibration, flexure compensation and spectral extraction. This method is generally applicable to any lenslet-based integral field spectrograph including proposed future instrument concepts for space missions.

SUAVE (Solar Ultraviolet advanced Variability Experiment) is a far ultraviolet (FUV) imaging solar telescope of novel design for ultimate thermal stability and long lasting performances. SUAVE is a 90 mm Ritchey-Chretien telescope with SiC (Silicon Carbide) mirrors and no entrance window for long and uncompromised observations in the UV (no coatings of mirrors, flux limited to less than a solar constant on filters to avoid degradation), associated with an ultimate thermal control (heat evacuation, focus control, stabilization). Design of the telescope and early thermal modeling leading to a representative breadboard (a R&T program supported by CNES) will be presented. SUAVE is the main instrument of the SUITS (Solar Ultraviolet Influence on Troposphere/Stratosphere) microsatellite mission, a small-size mission proposed to CNES and ESA.

Large, complex, rapidly evolving pieces of software such as operating systems are notoriously difficult to prove correct. Developers instead describe expected behaviour through assertions and check actual behaviour through testing. However, many dynamic safety properties cannot be validated this way as they are temporal: They depend on events in the past or future and are not easily expressed in assertions. TESLA is a description, analysis, and validation tool that allows systems programmers to describe expected temporal behaviour in low-level languages such as C. Temporal assertions can span the interfaces between libraries and even languages. TESLA exposes run-time behaviour using program instrumentation, illuminating coverage of complex state machines and detecting violations of specifications. We apply TESLA to complex software, including an OpenSSL security API, the FreeBSD Mandatory Access control framework, and GNUstep's rendering engine. With performance allowing "always-on" availability, we demonstrate that existing systems can benefit from richer dynamic analysis without being re-written for amenability to a complete formal analysis. Along with the body control system is becoming more intelligent, making the body network scale and the communication load increase dramatically, transmission delay of information in the body network is increasing obvious, greatly reduces the system's real-time performance and reliability. Based on the analysis of body network communication needs, we design the reasonable body CAN network topology structure. According to the characteristics of information transmission of the body network control system, designed a hybrid scheduling algorithm is applied to the body network control system, and is verified by experiments on the performance. Experimental results show that the design method of body network system can effectively guarantee the real-time and feasibility of information transmission, and optimized the body network control system as a whole. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Distributed electrode switching device is an important part of high density resistivity instrument, and its performance will directly affect the usage of high density resistivity instrument in field work. This thesis introduces a design method of distributed electrode switching device. The device utilizes MCU to control magnetic latching relays to switch, and thus controls electrodes to switch automatically. It also utilizes RS485 chips to complete communication with adjoining electrode switching circuits. In order to test the device, this thesis introduces a software design method and the device turns out to be low power, small size and high reliable. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
